Go watch it.
Like.
Right this second.
...Nah.
Honestly I haven't watched animu in months, and with school starting up on Monday I feel like now is probably not an ideal time to try and get back into it.
it's only 13 episodes long. You could easily watch it over the weekend.
Also it's one of the best series in any medium ever made, so there's that too.
I did it to watch Darker Than Black Season one, it took me a day to watch from 1 to 18.
I have done it, by my memory, exactly twice: the two seasons of Haruhi Suzumiya. This wasn't because I particularly loved the show or anything (though I do like it); I was watching with a friend, which changes the equation somewhat.
There are forty-eight hours in one weekend, mahdude
just sayin
It's Saturday evening...
I thought Maoyuu was an LN adaptation?
B-bu-but The Young Hunters Leaping Through Time sucked!
^It is, but there's also a manga adaptation.
The anime is adapted from the novels, not the manga. The manga adaptations all differ considerably from the novels, from what I've heard.
Anyway, the first episode of it was surprisingly good although cowtits don't appeal to me so the fanservice kind of just seems silly more than anything else. The girl's personality is still cute though so that's nice. I don't like that MC acts like a generic harem MC and looks like Oreki Hotarou, despite supposedly being a great hero.
He does.
The screencaps I've seen so far make me want to stay away (sure seems economic), but the premise seems so interesting... But I wasn't planning to watch it in the first place and I won't bother now anyways (Yes, I'll bother with Vividred but not this).
I don't really like Madoka's costume, since it just doesn't say "powerful" or "archer". Sayaka's works, since she's a kid who wants to be a hero. It could be better but it does say "I wanna be a hero".
Speaking of which, I like Madoka Kyono's outfits better than Madoka Kaname's. Her Jersey Club outfit is kinda goofy, with one leg and one sleeve slightly pulled up, but it works.
Also, there needs to be more fanart like these. I find them amusing.
I don't know why she pulls up a leg and a sleeve, but whatever. She's kinda crazy like that.
She's also currently gracing my desktop, albeit in her pilot suit.
^^Madoka's isn't supposed to say 'powerful' or 'archer' because that's not the strength of her character or what the design should reflect. What it reflects is her kindness and supposed frailty, which gives her a deceptive value.
I absolutely love Sayaka's design though.
^^^ The first of those two pieces is a bit ambiguous, but...
...are those name-based crossovers, basically?
Lesson: If Madoka were hyper she would be that girl from Yuruyuri.
@ Malk I think that aspect of a character is more appropriate to reflect in their casual clothes rather than their combat outfit. (especially since we don't see her magical girl outfit all that much) Best comparison I can think of is how this says "heroic dragon-themed warrior" or well, "dragon knight" instead of "I have many issues against killing anyone". Of course, Madoka's never really shown with casual clothes, so that's an opportunity lost.
Forgot to mention: Kyouko's outfit gives a sort of aggressive feel, which is pretty cool.
@ Glenn, 1st post I think her pilot suit bears some resemblance to race queen outfits.
@ Glenn, 2nd post: Yes. And I'm still waiting for a name-based crossover with Daigo Madoka, aka Ultraman Tiga. His super hero identity is literally a manifestation of hope, so it could vaguely work.
@fourteenwings: That reminds me. Or did you mean somebody else? (has not seen Yuru Yuri)
Yeah, her, whatshername (When's DYRE when you need him?)
I want a Kamen Rider Wizard Madoka then, if we're going by the manifestation of hope.
I also want Fourze!Hibiki from Symphogear.
I think that pic made Akarin there look sort of like an older Sakura Kinomoto more than she looks like Madoka.
This guy might also work for crossover Madoka fanart. He's some manifestation of hope, and he's got some vague archery thing going on.
Also, this fusion fanart is somewhat clever. Kyubey's drawn as Mephilas-seijin, and the name Mephilas comes from Mephistopheles. Wrong Mephilas though. The pic recalls an episode of Ultraman Taro instead of the original Ultraman, and it's the original Mephilas that had a Mephistopheles vibe going on.
And uh what about Hibiki!Hibiki for being music-themed?
For music-themed, you should also feature Idolmaster!Hibiki.
While Akkari~n is similar to Madoka in personality, Chinachu~ actually looks like her and already cosplays a magical girl in the show, so you'd think there'd actually be fanart of Chinatsu as Madoka, but somehow there doesn't seem to be anything like that.
@glennmagusharvey: There's this pic of her with Kamen Rider Hibiki's drumsticks. There's just a lot of Hibikis for crossover fanart possibilities. (that pic is also a crossover fanart)
Also, probably non-serious, but somebody on another forum proposed this as the reason the ABC website labels Madoka Magica as children's programming:
Somebody should so Suite!Symphogear Hibiki and the other way round. I like Kamen Rider Hibibiki!Suite Hibiki.
While the finale doesn't actually air till the end of January, this is cute.
That looks so mutatable for all sorts of other purposes.
@Naas_H_Sapiens: Here's the whole category for them.
Unfortunately, people don't seem to have noticed the similarity between Touhou's Kisume (the "bucket loli") and Stratos 4's Mikaze Honjou, despite the fact that both of them have twintails. Instead, Kisume got named "bucket Ranka" after Ranka Lee from Macross, who doesn't share the same hairstyle.
Also, adding Hibiki Ganaha's overenthusiastic expression to anything makes it better.
A recent viewing of clips of Advent Children has brought this to the fore again:
Given: a brown-haired girl in anime
I mentally see: a white/Caucasian girl with brown hair
They mentally see: a Japanese girl with hair dyed brown
Meanwhile I mentally see: an anime character.
No, if an anime character has brown hair, you don't generally assume it's dyed. If you have to relate it to a real-life appearance of a person, it'd just be, like... lighter hair than someone whose hair is represented with black.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the only anime hair color that you're ever supposed to automatically assume is dyed is blonde hair on a Japanese character in a show where everyone else has brown or black hair. And even then not always.
^ That is the correct response.
Does the topic of hair dye ever come up with any frequency in anime?
No, but it's implied sometimes.
I think it was semi-explicitly shown in Clannad, and in the Oreimo light novels (and presumably other instances, but that's all I can think of right now).
