    > Lagrange dub

my pronunciation: leu gah-REET (like French, because it's written like French)

their pronunciation: leh GAR-ih-tay (like Spanish, but only if it were written "le Gárite")

my pronunciation: lan (rhymes with hand, pan, grand, etc.)

their pronunciation: lahn (rhymes with the "bahn" in "autobahn")

my concept: Madoka has the voice of a teenage girl (which she is)

the English dub (and the original Japanese dub too (yes, it's also called a dub)): Madoka has the voice of a kid girl

Is Star Driver not an anime or something?

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

Star Driver is a close second.

    I'll listen to her single.

    "Magical☆Twintails."

And they wonder why she won >_>

Okay, Precure has reached the level of "Buy a toy so you can be in a commercial for that toy so even more people can buy said toy", I'm impressed.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    >more fabulous than Star Driver

I'm not familiar with this series, but...wat.

They named a person moe in Akiba, I don't see what's so weird about that. But she'll need to changer her name since we already have an anison-er named Airi.

    And it's Mio's birthday today.

There is love everywhere, I already know

Vividred Operation 01: I want to say amazing, but it's probably just great.

The execution was beautiful plot-wise, though I'd have preferred the grandpa staying a grandpa instead of what did happen. I wonder how the remaining Vivid keys will be created...

Speaking of the Vivid Operations, Akane's transformation was the most well executed magical girl transformation since Uta~Kata (Yes, even better than Symphogear's).

I like Akane a lot and I'm surprised at the lack of fanservice (we got the opening shot, the one in her transformation and a few others I've already forgotten). Momo is cool, grandpa is great and Aoi is okay so far.

The CG is well used aside from the obvious Akane on her scooter shots, which bother me.

Also, Sony, we know you're involved here and no, I'm not buying a Walkman(TM) because the logo is prominently displayed in the fighter jets -_-

I loved it to be honest and if it continues being this good (and does something good with the eternal powersource thing) I'll definitely consider BDs.

AKB0048 Next Stage 02: Good, also dissapointing.

The new opening is a vocal piece and it's strong in that regard, but it fails to capture the emotional performance the VAs gave in "Kibou ni Tsuite", the ending is a great replacement for "Yume wa nandodemo Umarekawaru" but I'm sad because there's no dancing. Honestly, both new themes have their moments but the cinematography has taken a step down for the OP aside from the dance that starts it, the ED has a great concept but it takes a bit too long (and yes, what the heck am I doing right now analyzing the OP and ED).

The actual episode has a lot of time devoted to Variety Shows, with only two scenes directly related to the ongoing plot with Chieri's father (and only one of them involving Chieri's father).

I'm also kind of bothered by the two ongoing plots being "Chieri's father is synthesizing Kirara so he can use them as a fuel source for his war machines and is probably planning to capture Chieri and use her idol radiance to do it" and "General Elections for the new single are coming up" and the latter being treated as the more important plot. Seriously people, it's in no way near as important as the first.

Though so many new Chieri avatar opportunities in this episode :3

Mangirl 02: Still adorable, still love it.

Yama no Susume 01&02: Quite impressive plot-wise for what is 6 minutes, I like the way the memories are used to accent how people remember things and how this influences what they do, good work.

Ishida to Asakura 02: There's 30 seconds of unrequited BL in this distributed over the course of two minutes and 30 more seconds of "Dokidokidoku", so it's worth it despite all the other boring elements.

Jojo's Bizzare Adventure 01: Just... what exactly was that?

They're 12! 12! And people complain about moe artstyles...

Honestly, the art direction for this is great, the pacing could've used a bit of slowing down (Okay, a lot of slowing down) in the beginning, but the second half was well done.

The Dio and Jojo plot is one I last saw in a soap opera, but here it was very well executed. Dio is such an obvious "Hey, you should hate this guy!" character, but it works for me.

The entire episode was really engaging and hilarious. The dynamic between Jojo and Dio works really well, Jojo's romance with Erina is also okay ("ROMANCE!" the guy shouts before we go into montage.)

Overall, I really liked it, but not enough to consider BDs at this time.

There is love everywhere, I already know

Zetsuen no Tempest 13: The apparently dreaded recap episode.

There was about 13 minutes of recap, so I have no idea why everybody was on this show's neck about it. it was good recap too. I'll have to look over all the symbolism involving mini-Mahiro and Yoshino after the entire show is done because I feel like I'm missing something.

Isn't it convenient how Aika's body lies after she dies? It's almost as if somebody moves her! /notimportantatallI'msure

Also, holy major plot reveal after the ED BONES, though I understand why they did it this way because it'd feel even more out of the left field if he just appears mid story. But I'm feeling like he's Juunichirou 2.0 with this attitude, seriously, please don't make a Juunichirou clone a main character I have to deal with every week.

It's interesting what the Tree of Genenis has done, though I'm torn on whether I want the world to go back to normal or not.

Preview: Hakaze and Yoshino, huh? or should I say 'duh'?

And I like the new ED, it sort of is better fitting that happy endings. I like how the EDs contrast each other too, wonder if the new OP will work the same.

Hakkenden 01: Gods, stop being so obvious.

Obvious? You ask? The last moments of the OP are two bishounen leaning in impossibly close and smiling at each other during a sword fight (There's also the weird BDSM thing going on with the blonde shirtless guy). I actually shouted out "Come on!"

Well, Ayahi Takagaki is in it and sings, the characters aren't terrible and there's less naked than K, so we'll see where this goes. Oh, and I like the world set up!

I enjoyed how wonderfully creepy most of the episode ended up being with the various demons and stuff. I could see "Shino used to be a priestess" coming up, but I liked it anyways.

Set up was traditional, but there was some unique stuff with how crazy everything ended up. I liked it.

Oh yeah @MadassAlex: New GITS TV series coming up eventually, I'm not sure if anybody's mentioned this.

  • Speaking of the Vivid Operations, Akane's transformation was the most well executed magical girl transformation since Uta~Kata (Yes, even better than Symphogear's).

How would you define "well executed"? I'm not all that fond of transformation sequences. Especially if they're the "background changes" variety. I wouldn't mind if instead of showing the transformation, they show stuff around the character being affected by it, like an enemy getting knocked back by a shockwave. The only actual sequence I can honestly say I liked was the armor-up thing in Garo, but that's not an anime.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    "well executed"

Enjoyable to watch, nicely thematic instead of generic, good cinematography.

I love transformation sequences, but they tend to be samey despite the obvious effort that goes in (especially Precure with it's dresses of light) and it's very hard to create special ones.

I wouldn't mind if instead of showing the transformation, they show stuff around the character being affected by it,

I like this too, but they should do it after they show me my nonsensical sequence (like in later episodes).

  • edited 2013-01-16 09:21:10

^ Also not an anime, but Ultraman Dyna did both of those things for Asuka's first transformation, if I recall correctly. One of the more memorable first transformations for me, since it (sort of) killed the monster they were fighting.

Anyway, I'm seriously wondering: is there any anime or manga with a male crossdressing as a magical girl besides Is This a Zombie??

  • edited 2013-01-16 08:59:14

I think that sort of happens in an episode of Kamichama Karin, but not to the extent that you're asking for, probably (though it does have a non-crossdressing magical boy the rest of the time).

Other than that I don't know of any anime/manga like that.

There is at least one VN like that though, but untranslated eroge are not what you'd be asking for, I guess.

EDIT: Oh, there's also Prism ☆ Magical ~Prism Generations!~, though that's just a 1 episode OVA to promote a VN.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

I just noticed how often the theme self-discovery appears in Eureka Seven AO.

Unlike it's predecessor, this show tends to focus on the more 'real' concepts and shirks philosophy at most times (Noteble exceptions include Episode 10, the Piedpiper one, though I could argue that it presents philosophic concepts in a real world light and therefore it doesn't count).

The only two characters who have obvious leanings towards self-discovery are Truth and Elena, who both have very good, realistic reasons for doing so.

But Ao, Fleur, Ivica, Rebecka, Christophe and even freaking Nakamura in the end (the end being episode 22) are on their own journeys of self discovery, each has little moments throughout the series where you can pinpoint the events that shape them and their beliefs about the world. While Fleur's most character defining moment (well, before episode 20 at least) occurs before the series, from episodes 1-20 we watch her relationships with Ao, Elena and her father change (most noticeably with her father and Elena).

  • >haven't started on anything new in over a year

    >only read brain-off shounenstuff

    >Bleach is still whitegrounds, fights that occur entirely offscreen and pseudo-philosophical thrashtalk

    >Naruto is still angsty flashbacks, characters that keep being revived and Tenten being useless

    >One Piece is still quirky humour, powerups that pop up with zero training arcs and madcap characters that still manage to be threatening

I wish I could just quit the former two, but sunk cost fallacy and all that.

  • I'm a damn twisted person
It's easy man. Just realize you aren't having fun and walk away. When they eventually end /a/ will have a shitstorm and you will find out about it that way.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

So current animu list: Maoyuu, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Oreshura.

The last is pretty charming piece of romance/moeshit though it depends a bit too much on embarrassment humor. The dialogue is still clever enough to excuse it.

Does anybody ever wonder if the writing of an animu might actually be being cleaned up fansubbers?

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

@Saigyouji: Kara no Kyoukai is getting a side story movie.

    Depends on the subbers.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

^^I've seen it done with fan translations of video games, so I dunno could be.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Is Maoyuu worth it? I am just following JoJo and Magi nowadays. I haven't been interested in watching most of the winter shows this time around.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

I enjoyed what I watched, but medieval fantasy-romance hybrids are kind of a thing that hit my sweet spot.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

Did Robotics;Notes wrap up? It was pretty good for like the seven episodes I watched but... my brain is fried I think. I can't really pay attention to shows that are running currently and like to marathon them or build up a backlog at least.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know
    Robotics;Notes

Nope, there was a big deal involving both noitaminA shows being two-cour at the beginning of the Fall season too IIRC.

In fact, there's a surprising amount of two-cour stuff from Fall continuing for the current anime season atmosphere.

or build up a backlog at least.

I suck at clearing backlogs and I like weekly watching a lot anyways, so I'm probably the opposite.

The shows I'm hoping to eventually marathon are Tari Tari (two seasons ago), Dog Days (same), tsuritama (three seasons ago) and Chihayafuru 2 (I may or may not forget this exists).

Does anybody ever wonder if the writing of an animu might actually be being cleaned up fansubbers?

I think this is unlikely if only because most fansubbers are horrible at writing, and even if they weren't they still usually try to stick extremely close to the original dialogue because fans get pissed when they don't.  There might be the rare case where a group like gg or Commie ends up writing something better than it was in the original script though, but I can't imagine that happens too often.

Marathoning Robotics;Notes sounds horrible.  Even now that the actual plot has started, it's still ridiculously slow-paced.

    Is Maoyuu worth it?

    Yes.

  • They're somethin' else.

    Welp. I finished Madoka.

I love how Homura was the awkward one at first XD

  • I'm a damn twisted person
Generally I find marathoning shows the best way to offset a slow pace though. Granted that usually means watching 6-8 episodes at a time instead of just trying to watch as much as possible.
