INUH, select a defense and throw some dice at it. You chose an aggressive stance, but defended, so you're at -2 CP for a total of 9.
Hm...there was a strategy in there somewhere, but I don't think it worked...:/
I'll block for...six.
Okay! Everest rolls 7 dice, aiming for 7s or higher. 2 successes.
INUH rolls 6 dice for 5s (this is the benefit of a shield). 4 successes.
INUH blocks the attack easily and takes initiative, with 3 dice remaining. Everest has 6 dice to defend with. What's your move, INUH?
Technically, yes, but then Everest has 6 dice to attack you with and you got nothin'.
On the bright side? Combat pools refresh after this round.
Cut, 3, torso.
Defense, Everest?
Parry with 6 4 (-2 to defense), accounting for the activation cost (so, 3). What does parrying do, mechanically?
Exactly the same as block. Except shields usually have lower required values for it than weapons do. Axes are pretty bad at parrying, so you should probably just block.
Parry is basically there as a type of block for those without shields.
Oh. Then why is it available for mass weapon and shield (is it equally as ineffective with other mass weapons?)? 'S misleading. >
So, yeah, I block with what's left (does the -2 to defense thing apply for each instance, or just at the beginning of a round?).
Just the beginning.
Okay, INUH rolls 3 for 6. 2 successes.
Everest, 6 for 5. 4 successes. You take back initiative.
Alright, pools refresh. 11 CP each, with Everest taking the first attack again.
How does Bind and Strike work, exactly?
You pay the activation cost (if any), and you attack as normal -- but with your shield. INUH tests whatever defensive technique he chooses against it as normal. Instead of dealing damage, though, for every success you win by, he has one less CP in the following pass. As usual, the winner of the pass keeps initiative.
Basically, it's an entirely regular attack that damages his CP instead of his general health. On the other hand, your ATN for the axe is 7, but only 5 for the shield. This means that bind and strike is more likely to succeed, and can therefore set up a stronger follow-up.
Okay. So I'll Bind and Strike for 7.
Defense, INUH?
Alright.
Everest rolls 7 for 5. 3 successes.
INUH rolls 6 for 5. 5 successes.
INUH takes initiative and may now attack with up to 5 dice. Everest has 4 to defend with.
Block, 4.
Alright, INUH rolls 3 successes. Everest gets 2.
INUH deals 2 damage to Everest's torso! Except the leather armour negates exactly 2 points of damage, doing nothing. On the bright side (for INUH), initiative stays in its current hands and CP is refreshed.
You both have 11 dice. Your attack, INUH?
I'll try...cut, 8, torso.
Defense, Everest?
Block, 7.
8 for 6, and it's a 4.
7 for 5, and it's a 3.
INUH scores a damage of 2... but again, the leather protects. (Tip: neither of you had armour on your head)
That said, INUH continues to hold initiative, having 3 dice left to attack with. Everest can defend with 4.
Attack, 3, head, then.
Defense, Everest?
Block, 4.
3 for 6, 0.
4 for 5, 2.
Initiative passes to Everest. Your move?
Cut, 7, head. Gonna play it conservative, since I seem to have incurred disfavor with the random number god (lol superstition).
Hm. Block, 6, head :V
This is getting a bit repetitive :P
