Yeah, that was kind of a worthless post I made there, wasn't it? I think I was going to add something else to it and then I didn't.

There is love everywhere, I already know

Kumi Koda is doing the theme song for that new Muv Luv anime.

Words cannot describe how appropriate that is.

  • I'm so behind... I still have to finish watching like 11 shows before I'll be able to start any of the new shows this week... :c

Also I do not know who Kumi Koda is, so... (is it because she did the theme songs for Final Fantasy X-2, which I just learned now from Wikipedia?)

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

No, that was back when she was um... tamer?

Now she basically wears a bra and hot pants on stage/in her PVs all the time.

Right now I'm not too behind, but with the pre-uni classes I'm taking starting on Monday I doubt I'll be able to keep up... This wasn't a good time to re-watch No. 6...

RahXephon episode 11: I'd forgotten how trippy this one is. Man, it's like that one Futurama episode with the giant bees, but with mecha.

  • Has friends besides tanks now
I'm starting FMA: Brotherhood now. Let's see how this goes.
  • Pretty darn well, I'd assume.

  • a little muffled

Brotherhood is possibly my favourite anime of all time.

I should watch it again sometime (with the dub); it's really long though...

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

I haven't finished the Brotherhood anime, but I read the manga and IMO, it's the best shonen fighting series ever made.

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I haven't seen Brotherhood yet. Loved the first anime, though.
  • a little muffled

I need to get around to reading the manga too.

^^^ It seriously is, though. The only thing that really comes close is One Piece, which is better in other respects but not what I instantly imagine when I think "shounen fighting series".

  • I'm a damn twisted person
For me my favorite anime is a toss up between TTGL, RahXephon and Princess Tutu. FLCL, Outlaw Star, Eden of the East and Noein can fight it out for my 2nd favorite.
  • a little muffled

Favourite is between Cowboy Bebop, TTGL, and Brotherhood for me.

My favorite is probably Disappearance. If that doesn't count since its just a movie and not the whole series, it's a toss up between TTGL, FMA, Death Note, and Eden of the East.

Cowboy BebopBrotherhood, and Macross Plus for me, probably. GITS is pretty neato too, though.

    K-On!

    K-On!

    Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

    Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

    Heartcatch Precure!

    Heartcatch Precure!

    Fushigiboshi no Futagohime

    Fushigiboshi no Futagohime

    Princess Tutu

    Princess Tutu

Though, I'm actually not sure about anything after Heartcatch.  Figure 17 might also be up there somewhere.

One Piece is good, but it's really, really long, and that doesn't lend itself to FMA's thematic and narrative cohesion.

As for the best manga overall, 20th Century Boys. No contest.

Oh, and Cromartie High always cracks me up too.

^ Yeah, One Piece is more of an epic than shounen fighter, to me at least.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Oh, it's definitely a shonen fighter, just an odd one. I'm just saying why I don't think it approaches FMA quality.

  • Kichigai birthday!!

I really like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

  • Would you say Spirited Away is too trippy/scary for a two year old to watch?

  • I would say no.

I don't think One Piece and FMA are comparable, honestly. Setting aside my obvious bias, they're far too different, both in tone and in construction. As it stands, my immediate thought when I think of FMA is "this is pretty visceral for TV-14". Not that I care much about rating systems, but I think my first viewing of FMA involved Scar destroying Nana, which was sort of shocking at the time (I was probably twelve or something). Hmm. That was a bit of a tangent. My point is that I don't think of them in the same terms.

On that note, my favorite manga should go without saying. I would have to say my favorite anime is K-On!!, followed by either AnoHana, Eden of the East, or Durarara!! Favorite animovie is Evangelion 2.22.

    "cohesion"

See, that's another thing I like about One Piece; in spite of being one of the longest-running comics out there, it's remarkably consistent.

    Loser

    Nyarly,

Talking about K-On!, I just watched the fourth episode of K-On!!, the imaginatively titled second season. It's the Kyoto episode, in which the appropriate dialect appears (mostly just faked by Ritsu). And just as I feared, they used Bavarian (which isn't so much a dialect as much more a form of acoustic torture) for it in the German version. I will never watch this episode dubbed. Never.

I think that sounds a little weird, but I guess foreign language dubs kind of have to make odd decisions when it comes to stuff like that. Is there another German dialect that you think would have worked better?

I feel like it can be sort of interesting seeing how English versions of a show deal with dialogue that was in English in the original too. I guess the most "unique" way I have seen of dealing with that problem was the FUNimation dub of Bamboo Blade having an American character speak in valley girl to distinguish her from the Japanese characters.

As for favorite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist (both series)/Haruhi/Sketchbook/Bokurano/Bamboo Blade would probably be mine, but I doubt I have really seen enough to make a good list.

  • a little muffled

Oh man, I totally forgot about how amazing the Engrish episode of Bamboo Bladewas.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    Favorite anime:

Eureka Seven, UN-GO, Eden Of The East, .hack//SIGN, Angelic Layer, Heartcatch Precure and Paranoia Agent.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

Folks. Stop talking about K-On and go read Biomega now. Like seriously this is a great manga. You owe it to yourselves to get a break from talky shonen, moe-blobs talking and mechs meching to witness hyper violence in kooky megastructures with an acid trip sci-fi plot and fantastic art.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

I'll not hear a word against moe blobs good sir!
