I liked Lucky Star a lot, but I didn't get into it like a lot of other people apparently did. Plus, it doesn't really feel like quite the same thing, maybe because of its humor being based so much on parodies and other references.
My favourite slice of life is either Yotsuba&! or Nichijou
Yotsuba&! is definitely very good, but unfortunately there's no anime. :c And I don't really read enough manga to be able to compare it to others, so...
Lucky Star is good, but yeah, it's got nothing on AzuDai.
This is hilariously bad:
I listened to four seconds of that.
Edit: And now it's in my head.
"It may be tempting to skip to episode 14 which is where it diverges, but I'm told that the first anime cut some stuff from the early episodes that ends up being important."
I think I'll continue with episode 4, for now; it would seem I didn't already watch the equivalent episode from the first anime. But I'll definitely stick it out, on account of its massive hype and relevance.
Then again, I liked it, so you probably won't.
Well that's because Neihei loves using a decompressed cinematic style in his works. You aren't supposed to slow down and watch people talk a lot, so much as let the scenery and the actions present most of the story for you. Any dialog the characters use is for maximum effect because their actions are carrying most of the weight really. As for Kovlov... you like stuff as ridiculous as One Piece but a talking bear is a deal breaker for you?
Well, not exactly a deal breaker; I've mostly liked Biomega so far, and I plan to pick up the other three volumes. I just don't see how Kozlov fits in; the most prominent life forms by far in Biomega are some combination of human and drone, and then there's this bear that can talk for no given reason and is generally just a strange addition, but no one in-universe really questions it, in spite of there having been no other similar creatures shown so far, nor any precedent set for such a thing. It's in the future, so some level of silliness is to be expected, but that's just kinda pushing it until I get something as simple as "yeah, sure, people conducted these sorts of experiments and made animals capable of talking and using firearms". Even in One Piece, the people of the setting realize when something is ridiculous most of the time, or they're unable to wrap their heads around the concept presented. And it's a silly work in any case, in many respects, whereas Biomega has been all business, and just about devoid of intentional humor. Hell, as much as Kozlov gets brutalized, I don't know if his presence even counts as comedic anymore.
I also don't take that much issue with the art style; I just imagine it would have been a pain in the ass to follow it during its weekly run and get through the chapters so quickly.
It really depends on how you look at it. If you feel like pouring over the details, you can easily get lost and sink some time into Biomega and Blame! because lol architecture porn. Which is really a treat since it is such a nice detailed contrast to typical stark manga backgrounds and scenery because of the weekly schedule.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain Nihei publishes his stuff monthly, not weekly.
Yep, turns out it was monthly. Which would make the waiting even worse. Thankfully I don't really have to worry about that, myself, and if I want to, I can go back and reread it.
Eh it's a trade off. Higher detail for slower release schedule. Hence why I don't mind western comics usually taking a month between release since COLOR and really detailed art.
@Nyktos: I was just listening to this instead:
Enjoy.
Man, I really want to like Deadman Wonderland's opening, but the vocals suck so much. I'm also waiting for the anime that uses full-on extreme metal in its opening (I'm not entirely sure if I count Maximum the Hormone; they're probably closer to metalcore, honestly), and if anyone knows of such a thing, feel free to tell me! Does Detroit Metal City have death metal, by chance?
Though while I'm on openings, it grinds my gears that a . . . piece of work . . . like Highschool of the Dead got such a kick-ass opening. But I think I've said that already.
Rebuild 3.0 : November 17th!
That probably means the English dub/3.33 will be out late next year.
MtH self-identify as a rap-metal group, I think.
The show identifies the main character's band as death metal (and their image goes along with that), but the music doesn't actually sound like death metal.
^^ Probably.
In other news: WHERE ARE THE DECENT TARI TARI SUBS?
@Everest:
Not extreme at all, but Mnemosyne has some pretty sweet power metal.@DYRE:
They look more black metal tbh.Detroit Metal City is another really funny show, though I wish it had a dub.
DMC has the black metal image but their music is much more akin to thrash to say nothing of the sugary pop that's also in it. Also, fair warning since it's about a metal band there is a lot of black humor in it. Including a good deal of rape jokes. (One which I thought was pretty goddamn hilarious actually)
Also, Everest. That's actually comforting. I don't mind incest humor so much as I would be uncomfortable watching incest wank material. Nisemonogatari was pretty bad in that regard, made worse by the fact that it completely sidelined me.
"Nisemonogatari was pretty bad in that regard, made worse by the fact that it completely sidelined me."
Huh. Really?
Now that I remember, actually, there's one incident in OreImo that's pretty bad, but I think that's it.
>implying Nisemonogatari's toothbrush scene wasn't the best moment in all of anime
^^Basically there's a scene where the main character makes his little sister orgasm by brushing her teeth. Because anime.
wut.jpg
Uh . . . huh. Well, there's a scene in OreImo where the main character somehow falls on his sister in such a way that he's cupping her breast and has a leg between hers (at that point, he was trying not to get kicked in the nuts, but I still don't quite understand how he managed to fall like that), and then her friends walk into the room to see them like that. Up until that point, it was doing relatively okay, though, and I don't think anything else like that happened.
