Carrie pulled a Pokeball from her belt, and threw it at the Spinarak that Littorio had weakened.
"Mercer, don't let the white one escape! Use Mean Look!" She was hoping this new move would work to good effect. And she tensed to defend herself, backing up a little (assuming that the action economy allows for that while also ordering a Pokemon; I can't remember).
The Pokeball hits the Pokemon in the head and falls down to the ground, broken. It remains uncaptured.
Mercer eyes the Pokemon meanly. It quails, too scared to flee.
Littorio rushed another of the spiders. It hit, again causing the spider to lost a lot of health but not knocking it out.
Charles slowly walked to his right, Snow moving along next to him.
They walked for several minutes without seeing anything, the oppressive heaviness not lifting.
Imagine his surprise when he nearly walked into another person, a teenaged boy.
Charles tilted his head, confused. "...Uh, hello?"
"Dammit!" Carrie fumbled for another Pokeball, and threw again.
The person didn't move, or say anything. He stood absolutely still.
It took a moment for Charles to notice that the whites of his eyes... weren't.
Charles jumped back. "OH JEEZ!"
Snow ran behind her trainer, startled by his jumping. Charles calmed down after a second and approached the figure again. He touched him
Phillip waved his tail at the white Pokemon. It shivered, its' Defence falling.
Bob sidestepped forwards. He hit the Pokemon with his bone.
It was... grisly. The Bone Club was exceptionally powerful, and the Pokemon was not particularly powerful. The Bone Club hit the spider. There was a brief, loud hiss, and then the Pokemon fell over and stopped breathing.
With Snow so close, the area between the boy's legs was illuminated. Behind him, just barely, Charles could see something. The aura seemed to be emanating from it.
It was freezing where Charles stood, colder than it had any right to be, even at night.
"You." The boy spoke softly, but Charles could hear it clearly. The voice seemed to be two-tiered, a normal teenager's voice on one level, and something softer, more sinister, less human, on another.
Charles pointed at himself. "M-me?" He was, quite rightly, scared
Snow started to cry
"Good job, Littorio. Now try tackling the white one, but try not to knock it out if you can avoid it."
Hssssss. The second voice seemed faintly irritated as the boy hissed.
When the boy spoke next, the regular, teenager's voice somehow seemed more prominent, more in control.
"Don't worry," the boy said kindly. "We don't want to hurt you. Tonight."
The second voice asserted itself again.
Hsssss. "Boy. Why are you out tonight?"
The white one quailed. It tried to draw in on itself, hoping to make itself as small as possible, making itself seem harmless to avoid being injured.
The injured spider panicked and rushed towards Jackie, hoping to overwhelm her before it was knocked out.
The other one still snored, happily dreaming away.
"B-because I needed to go for a walk... Then I got horribly, horribly lost... Wait, I know now! I'm in the Twilight Zone, aren't I!?" Charles began to look excited as Snow continued to freak out
Jackie made to swing at the spider, but she remembered that Carrie wanted to capture it, so she backed off instead, hoping it wouldn't outrun her.
"Mercer, come back to me!"
"Do not be ridiculous," they snorted contemptuously.
"Tonight is not a good night to be wandering around," warned the boy, the second voice sounding more sinister than ever, seeming to give him a sense of threat. "Powerful forces are making their moves around here. I would advise you leave, before you get caught up in this mess."
The figure above seemed to... look down at Snorunt. It was just a slight movement where the creature's head should have been, but to the Snorunt, it carried a lot of implications- threat danger warning darkness pain- that she was sure her Trainer could not pick up on.
"What kind of powerful forces?"
Snow began to tug on Charles' pants. Charles looked down. "Not now Snow. I'm talking with the... Whatever it is right now"
Snow tugged harder and Charles' frowned. "Don't make me call you back into your ball, Snow"
Carrie's next Pokeball met with a similar fate.
Mercer turned and saw Jackie in danger. Hissing, he made to rush to her, floating as fast as he could.
Littorio toddled over to the white one and Tackled it. It didn't seem to be very hurt at all
"Well, it's good that you didn't just knock it out or anything. Do it again."
"We're already caught in this mess you speak of!" Ray cried. "Phillip! Keep your tail whips up! Let them know the threat only exists if they try an offense!"
Carrie was so focused on catching the damn spider that she didn't even notice that Bob had apparently just killed one of them. "Arceus damn you, get in the ball!" She threw a third Pokeball.
"The kind you don't want to be messing with." The boy sounded serious about this. "Rocket is involved, what's left of Aqua and Magma, too. The remnants of Galactic, all of them, they're involved, and they're messing with the Legendaries. They're playing with the power of Gods around here."
"I'm already involved," he shrugged. "I met with Darkrai here some months ago, and we've already been drawn into this. Don't make the same mistake I did. Get out while you can."
Charles frowned. "Darkrai? What the heck kind of Pokemon is that? And I don't know which way is out, anyways. If you could possibly point me to where the others are, I'll head to them"
Snow stopped tugging, hoping her trainer was serious about getting out of there
Phillip continued to wave its' tail at the white Pokemon.
Bob, without any standing orders, stared at the corpse of the Pokemon he had just killed.
The boy smiled here, baring his teeth.
"Darkrai is the stuff your nightmares are made of."
Darkrai, still looming behind the boy, inclined its' head at Snow again. The message was clear: You're weak, child, you couldn't help if you wanted. It seemed to loom a little more, subtly making its' message clear. Go home, little weakling, or I'll eat you
The white one still quailed, too scared to move.
The green spider was still panicking. Seeing that Jackie had run from it, it changed course, heading for Carrie.
The other green one yawned, sleepily waking up.
Snow began to run, crying. Charles turned around. "Oh jeez, Snow!" He then turned back to the boy and Darkrai. "I hope you at least scared her in the right direction!"
He then bolted towards Snow, following her closely
Jackie was about to give an order to Mercer when she, too, saw the Pokemon that Bob killed and nearly collapsed in on herself. Mercer saw this and stared at it too.
