  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie quietly unzipped the tent and peered inside. She spoke in a loud whisper. "Charles? You awake in there?"
  • No rainbow star

    Charles dropped the balls, startled

Dynamo looked at Charles, then Carrie. "...Kidelek?" he asked, looking worried. He didn't want to hurt Carrie

Snow however panicked and used Power Snow... On the ceiling of the tent

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie just stared, silent. Was he stealing Greg's and Ray's Pokemon? Not even Charles could be that stupid. Could he?

She stepped inside, and Bob followed, club held at the ready.

"Charles. What are you doing?" Her voice was soft. If he was crazed enough to actually consider stealing Pokemon, she didn't want to do anything that might set him off.
  • No rainbow star

Charles looked at her. "Doing anything I can to keep you guys from going to Mt Moon. I don't want anybody to die, alright? Now I'd suggest turning around and pretending like you saw nothing"

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
"Like hell." Carrie crossed her arms over her chest. "Now, you're going to put those Pokeballs back, and come outside with me so you can talk about this like adults, and I won't shout to wake up the whole camp. You don't want to do this, Charles. Kidnapping is a horrible thing."
  • No rainbow star

Charles frowned and left the balls there, walking out. He looked ashamed. "...It would have been the only way though..."

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
"No, it wouldn't have." Carrie shook her head. "Look. You were trying to kidnap our Pokemon. Our friends." Once they were away from the tents, she let her voice rise to a more natural volume. "We're the good guys, Charles. We aren't Team Rocket. We're better than that. No matter what, we can't let ourselves stoop to their level."
  • No rainbow star

Charles sighed. "I was just going to hide the balls until you guys agreed to not go to Mt Moon..." he looked down. "And what would you suggest, then, to keep everyone away from the mountain? You said so yourself. You are going to go up there anyways. Despite there being gods up there. Gods who could kill us easily!"

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
"Is that supposed to make it better?" Carrie shook her head, more to herself, than anything. He was unstable. If he thought knocking her out and taking their Pokemon anyway was the only way, she was pretty sure he'd do it. Hell, he'd probably pull it off, too. This line of dialogue would only push him towards that.

"We're a team, Charles. All of us. We can all discuss it in the morning, when everyone isn't tired or annoyed. We'll make a decision as a team." She adjusted her glasses. Bob watched their discussion like a hawk.
  • No rainbow star

Charles looked down at Bob. "Oh you can calm down. If I was going to try anything I'd already have you in a headlock"

He looked back up at Carrie. "You REALLY think anybody else is going to listen to me? I don't even think Snow trusts me right now..."

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
"Maybe because you keep acting crazy. No one listens to the guy shouting incomprehensible nonsense about gods and Teams. You need to be calm. Not rush into fucking stupid plans like kidnapping our Pokemon." She felt a hint of rage boil up at that, but she forced it down. Get outwardly pissed, and he'd react badly. But had she gone too far, there?

"People will listen to you more if you think. Think before you act. Think before you speak."
  • No rainbow star

"Well why should I act any differently!? It's all people expect of me! 'Oh Charles, he's such an idiot. Let's trick him into doing this!' 'Oh Charles, you are SUCH a good friend! But if you were a REAL friend, you'd stand here and take the blame for something we did!'. Nobody listens to me because nobody gives a DAMN about what I say, what I feel!"

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie blinked, taken aback. This... she hadn't expected. "What? I..." She stopped. Gathered her thoughts. "Charles, we are your friends. We just need to weigh all the evidence carefully. True, you saw Darkrai. I believe you." She spoke slowly and gently, as if soothing a child. "But we have to at least consider the possibility that he was lying, and that he just wants us to stay away from Cerulean until it's too late. Or that he was telling the truth about Mt. Moon being dangerous, but only so we wouldn't be able to stop Team Rocket." She smiled. "I see that you're scared. I understand. I'm scared too, Charles. But saving the world is more important to me, you know? We all just need to talk about this together."
  • No rainbow star

Charles sighed. "...My only friend is Snow..." he then sighed. "Look, I don't exactly trust Darkrai either. He offered me stones and what looked like a fossil if I stayed away from Mt Moon for the three days. That right there tells me something is off. It was the guy with him that makes me think we should stay away. The guy, he... He looked sad. Sad, worried, and honest, as if he actually cared about what happened to me, to the group. Darkrai threatened me, said that he would have had no qualms about me dying. That guy though, he warned me away from Darkrai, he didn't want me or Snow or you guys to get hurt"

Dynamo looked hurt by Charles' comment. He doesn't even see Dynamo as a friend?

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
"See, this is why we can't just rush into a decision like this. And why you can't force the rest of us into a decision by stealing our friends. There's a lot to consider. If Darkrai was trying to bribe you, it could mean he was desperate. And this was a dream. Darkrai could have made him up to get sympathy for what he was saying. Or maybe he was working for Darkrai for the same effect."

Carrie cautiously reached out to touch Charles's shoulder and smiled. "Just go back to bed. Sleep it over. In the morning, you can tell the others all about what you saw, and we'll have a discussion about what our next move should be."

    Charles sighed. "...But..."

He sat down on the ground and began to cry

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie blinked, not quite sure how to proceed. After a moment, she knelt down and hugged Charles. "It's gonna be okay. I promise. Whatever happens... It's going to be okay."

    Bob just looked confused.

Charles continued to cry for a few good minutes

Snow patted him on the back

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie stayed with him until he was finished. "C'mon. Let's get you to bed." She smiled confortingly. "I won't tell anyone about tonight. Just get some sleep, and we'll all talk about what to do over breakfast."
  • No rainbow star

Charles silently went to his tent. "...Can you have Bob stay outside for the night and keep Snow with you? I... I don't want to do anything stupid, and if Snow is with you and Bob is watching me... I think that might help me keep from trying something out" he asked before entering it

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie nodded, that comforting smile still on her face. "Whatever you say. Bob?" Bob rolled his eyes, but silently followed Charles into the tent. "Good night, Charles."
  • No rainbow star

    "Good night, Carrie..."

Snow went up to Carrie and stayed close to her, worried for Charles. Charles went into his sleeping bag and tried to fall asleep. His sleep was... Not very restful

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie stayed outside the tent for several minutes. She wasn't sure what she was waiting for. Maybe she was just making sure he didn't do anything else. Maybe it was because her heart was still pounding too loudly for her to be able to sleep.

Finally, she returned to her tent and got into her sleeping bag.

Her sleep wasn't exactly restful either.

Charles stretched and woke up in the morning. He jumped when he saw Bob, then remembered why he was there. "Oh... Morning..."

Snow was already up and looking around the girl's tent
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Ray's sleep was restless. The new information he was given had him scribbling under the soft glow Phillip had been providing and implied so much more going on. One team was bad enough, but three?

"Not that it changes anything." Ray said groggily getting out of the tent. "Still headed for Cerulean city, right Phillip?"

    Phillip yawned in reply.

  • No rainbow star
Charles heard Ray and looked over. "As long as we stay away from Mt Moon"
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

"If you know of a more expedient route I am all ears."

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Greg wakes up. "Hm? What?"

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

Carrie woke with a start, covered in a cold sweat.

She'd had a long night, filled with strange dreams and hints of nightmares, but... one of them had stood out.  It hadn't felt like a dream.  It had felt real

Under more normal circumstances, she would have written it off as just a dream, but now... there was something ominous about it.

  • No rainbow star
Charles looked at Ray. "I don't know a better route, but we are not going to Mt Moon. Darkrai said that is a bad idea"
