Charles headed over to the voices. "So... Wow, a legendary Pokemon... Any reason you brought me back instead of leaving me to die or doing to me what you did to that guy?"
"...Huh." Carrie looked down. She knelt, then picked Bob up in her arms. She stood.
"..."
"I'd like to bury it, personally, but we still need to find Charles. But . . . maybe we could check at the camp. If he's already found his way back, great, but if not, those of us who are tired can stay and rest. Fair enough?" Jackie was downtrodden, but she couldn't forget Charles.
"Let's worry about scanning them later; Mercer, come on, hon. I'm cold." With that, she motioned to walk in the direction they had come from. Mercer was at her back.
Greg takes out a potion, uses it on Littorio, then picks him up and hugs him.
"That guy?" The boy looked up, amused.
"We brought you back because you were lost. We're not quite mean enough to leave you stumbling around the wilderness, especially not as close to an Ursaring's lair as you were. Or, at least, I'm not."
"I might be, though." The second voice took over for a second, drowning out the boy's voice.
"We brought you back to camp, anyway." The boy looked steadily at Charles, his black eyes gazing unnervingly into Charles'. "So, I suggest you stay here for a couple of days. Give yourself a bit of rest, stay away from Mount Moon and the surrounding area for a couple of days."
He looked hesitantly in the direction of Mount Moon.
"You don't seem like the type to just run away, though," he sighed. "I'll tell you what. If you stay at least sixty miles away from Mount Moon for the next... three days, don't go anywhere near it, if I survive, I'll come back and give you these."
He held up three stones in his hand- two yellow ones, one with a jagged line on it, one with a circular line, and a brown stone which looked vaguely reminiscent of a fossil.
"Just stay away for three days and they're yours. I promise."
His eyes seemed to plead with Charles.
Charles nodded. "I promise. It may be harder to convince the others though, and after today they may just drag me there against my will... Any suggestions there?"
Carrie nodded, hugging Bob just a little tighter than usual. "Yeah. Let's go check." She turned to follow.
Greg nods and follows.
The boy shrugged.
"Tell them that, if they go, they will be facing off against creatures that are, for all intents and purposes, Gods. Tell them that, if they care at all about their Pokemon, they won't take them into danger like this. Tell them that, if they have any love in their hearts for those Pokemon they call their friends, they will stay as far away from this situation as they can get- or else, some of them will die."
Charles frowned. "Alright. And I guess if it came down to it... Well, I could force them into a battle"
He then let out Snow. "Snow, we need to make sure everybody stays away from Mt Moon for three days as it is going to get dangerous. Can I count on you to help?"
Snow looked at her trainer, then Darkrai, and cowered. Charles looked at her. "And Pokemon that may be scarier than him are going to be at Mt Moon. So do you really want them all to go there, especially if they were likely to take us along?"
Snow shook her head
Jackie eventually made it back to the camp to find Charles . . . asleep. The other Pokemon who were told to stay were huddled up, though. Dynamo, in particular, was frightened of some presence that wasn't entirely tangible. And on closer inspection, Charles was not resting easily.
"Charles? Charles! Wake up!"
Charles tossed and turned, then woke up. "...I just talked to a legendary Pokemon named Darkrai, and he says to stay away from Mt Moon or people will die..."
Greg looks at Charles like he's just turned purple.
". . . That's lovely, Charles. We just went out searching for you, so I'm glad to see that you're back. But I'm really tired right now, and slightly traumatized, so if you want to chat, we'll do it later. Good night." Jackie got to her sleeping bag, only to find it filled with dirt. "Okay, who did this?" She was too tired to speak at the top of her voice, so she dumped the dirt outside, thoroughly brushed out the sleeping bag, grabbed her sweatshirt from the ground where she had been hitting the tree, bid Mercer and Brandon good night, recalled Mercer to his pokeball, and went to sleep.
Carrie just shook her head at Charles. "Why did you wander off like that?"
Greg also heads for his tent. He can wait to name his new Pokemon in the morning.
Charles looked at Carrie, and didn't answer her question, instead trying to convince her. "Look, he was talking about gods, and that Team Rocket, Team Magma, and Team Aqua are involved. I may sound crazy, but it's true. Heck, look at Snow!" he let her out of her ball
Snow looked completely freaked out and huddled up to Charles
"Not to mention that I was lost. So how do you propose I got back here with no memory of the trip? And hell, you see Dynamo. He knows something was up!"
Carrie put up her hands. "Talk slower. And try to make some sense. What about the Teams? Gods?" She was mostly just annoyed at Charles, but she would humor him. He was certainly worked up enough.
He took a breath. "Alright. Three teams - Rocket, Magma, and Aqua - are apparently getting up to stuff in Mt Moon. Stuff that will involve gods - you know, like the big guy himself, Arceus - and apparently Darkrai as well. It will be highly dangerous, but we should be safe as long as we stay at least 60 miles away from Mt Moon. As for how I got to talking to Darkrai, well, me and Snow got lost - Heck, I even climbed a tree to try to find my way back. We ended up in a dark... Well, darkness. It was... I could feel how dark it was. And there was this guy, around my age, with black eyes that apparently serves Darkrai. After the conversation, Snow got scared and I chased her. The darkness got thicker and we fell asleep, only to end up here. And Snow was glowing as brightly as she could".
He then took another breath. "I know it sounds completely nuts, I realize that. But even so, we need to stay away from Mt Moon. Just 60 miles away for three days minimum. I'll do anything if it means we stay away. I'll stay with you guys at all times, I'll keep quiet - whatever you guys want, as long as we don't go near there"
Carrie just looked at Charles for a long moment. "Well... I don't think you're lying, but... How do you know that you weren't just dreaming? I mean, normal dreaming, not creepy Darkrai crap. I mean, I've had really weird dreams like that before, but they didn't mean anything. Maybe you just got all that into your head because of everything that's happened today."
Charles motioned to his Pokemon. "Because one, Snow is freaked out as well, and two, Snow was in her Pokeball. I only ever call her back if I think she is in danger, and I don't think I would be able to call her back in my sleep"
He looked down for a moment. "Look, think of it this way. If it is all true, then we'd be dealing with gods if we went to Mt Moon, along with three evil teams, and if you think we're ready for that, then you're stupid. And if it is all false, well, what do we have to lose by staying 60 miles away? It would just be a small detour, probably negligible in getting to Cerulean fast"
"And what's the alternative? Letting one of them get ahold of Legendary Pokemon? Bringing about the apocalypse, if Ray's right?" Carrie shook her head. "No. We knew this was going to be dangerous when we started. We knew that there was a chance that we could get..." She faltered. "...Hurt, but we did it anyway. If we stay away, bad shit is going to go down. Not just bad for us, bad for everybody. We can't let that happen, and if that means getting involved, I have to take that chance. Even if it means I'm going it alone." Her voice shook, slightly, but her mind was made up. She was going to see this through, no matter. "The stupid thing would be to just let them win. Do you think Darkrai was telling you that to help you? He doesn't care about you. If he was really telling you to stay away, he must have some stake in whatever's going down at Mount Moon in the next three days, and he doesn't want us to mess it up."
"No... Darkrai wasn't telling me that to help me... The guy he had under his control was".
He then got up. "Look, I don't want to see any of you die. And I will do anything to keep us away from there". There was a heavy emphasis on the word 'anything', as if it was a threat. "Now, we'd better get some sleep. See you in the morning"
He headed to his tent with Dynamo and Snow in tow
"But-" He was leaving. She stopped. No point in arguing now. Maybe he'd be able to see in the morning, when they could all speak as a group.
With a sigh, she headed back to her tent.
Carrie changed into more comfortable sleepwear, and crawled into her sleeping bag, carefully placing her glasses safely in their case.
Bob quietly plodded over and snuggled up close before falling asleep.
Tomorrow, they'd look back on this, and laugh. Well, maybe not laugh, but Charles would realize that they had to go through Mt. Moon. She nodded to herself. They were a team. All of them. Charles too, as much of a dumbass as he could sometimes be. They'd do this.
Sleep, though, was a long time coming.
Charles sighed and whispered to Dynamo and Snow. "If Greg or Ray wake up, disable them through any means necessary. I NEED to make sure that we don't go to Mt Moon"
He then snuck to their Pokeballs and grabbed them when he was certain they were asleep, getting ready to slip out of the tent
She sighed and nudged Bob. He cracked an eye, looking annoyed. "Bob, c'mon. I want to go check on Charles," she whispered. "He was acting kind of weird. I want to make sure he's okay. And that he doesn't do anything retarded." Bob rolled his eyes and stood, then plodded over to the tent door. She wriggled out of her sleeping bag, donned her glasses, and made her way toward the other tent, yawning.
Charles gathered up the balls and sighed, pausing. "Arceus dammit I really don't want to do this... But if it's the only way..."
Snow shuffled nervously
