Sensing Ray's disconcertment Phillip jumped onto Ray's lap and Ray began petting him.
Jackie sighed, too. "Look. You just need to think a little harder sometimes, especially now that our lives are at stake. It's part of growing up, really. That's no reason to leave you out by yourself. Especially since our lives are at stake. It's something you can work on. Hell, I still need to work on my temper, clearly. We're all kids out here, is my point. That's why we're so hard on you; we just want you to be safe, especially since we haven't ever done anything like this." Now to wait. She was irritated that it always came down to her to have these motivational talks, but she had to suppress that for the moment.
He whacked her on the shin. "Ow!"
"Vul pix pix vup vul vul vul!" Responded Phillip.
"Huh. I really didn't think it would be that easy. But okay. Does that mean you'll stay with the camp?"
Charles kept up his fake smile. "Yeah, sure"
"Well, all right, then. I'm going to head back now; I had something else I wanted to do while I had the chance. You can keep walking if you want."
He continued to walk off and started kicking bushes. "I'll show them I can handle myself..."
Snow frowned. "RUNT!"
"Come on Snow, YOU out of everybody know I can handle myself!" he continued to kick bushes and the occasional tree
While Charles kept walking, Jackie found Brandon still hitting some tree. She would spar with him, if any nurses were readily available, but as there were none around, she debated the question of whether or not he would be comfortable wrestling. Deciding against that as well, she found a tree of her own and quickly laid into it with hard palms and heels, hoping that he might appreciate her will to strengthen herself.
Carrie blinked, then shoved the book back into her bag. "Uh, yeah. Good idea."
She stood, then followed after Ray, jogging a bit to catch up.
Greg, figuring he has nothing else to do, silently stands up and follows Ray and Carrie.
Ray charged in the sounds of punches and kicks, ready to face any danger...
to find Jackie pummeling a tree. "Oh."
Jackie heard a faint sound as she struck the tree for the umpteenth time and turned to see Ray, who was followed by Carrie and Greg. "Uh. Hey. Wassup, guys?" Her sentences were broken by her panting. "Did something happen?" She rubbed her palms with her thumbs; she was not used to hitting bark. She then thought to take off her sweatshirt (she had a distressing habit of forgetting to do that when she was working out), revealing a tank top.
Panicked, Ray quickly turned around to spare Jackie's modesty. "We heard the sounds of conflict so we..." Ray then realized how stupid it was going to sound. "cametorescueyou."
Greg quickly averts his gaze, looking up at the sky.
Jackie laughs. "Goodness, you guys. It's a tank top. I know better than that."
"O-oh..." Ray answered, still not turning around. "Well, I'm just... what, exactly, were you doing? Trying to get pokemon to fall out of that tree?"
"If only it were that easy," Jackie said. "No, I'm practicing my strikes. I want to be at least as strong as my Pokemon, if I'm going to be traveling in the wild." Having taken some precious seconds to rest while talking, she struck the tree again, with extra force.
Greg looks back at Jackie, then back at the sky, then back at Jackie, then at the ground, and doesn't respond.
"We just wanted to make sure you were okay. Can't be too careful, these days."
Ray slowly turned around and made a special point to focus on Jackie's eyes. "Perhaps in the future you could tell us in advance your training sessions. I-... we were quite worried."
