Truth is, you can basically reshot the entire show with humans and it would still be good, except for a few missing jokes that are made about the fact that they are ponies

Such as the part where Applejack points out that they don't wear clothes.

That might be better with humans, actually.
  • I saw a comic where that scene was redone with them as humans.

Rarity ended up not letting Spike in the room in that version.
  • The humanizations are more tolerable if they're done in Western Animation style as opposed to the chibi and badass-animu cancer that plagues most of them.

  • Again, the same goes for most fandoms.

But the "bwobs" thing that's been going around is pretty amusing. And I guess some of the animu shit is actually done well on occasion.
  • $80+ per session
megasweet is a pretty good artist, and funny too.
  • I like the zany crossover artists à la madmax and terry.

  • >Truth is, you can basically reshot the entire show with humans and it would still be good, except for a few missing jokes that are made about the fact that they are ponies

That's basically what I mean when I say this:

    >I like to pretend that pony diddlers don't really think of the characters as horses in their mind's eyes, but instead more as abstract personalities. Or something.
  • ...what's wrong with anime-style? Is it uninspired or something?
  • Nothing wrong with the anime style at all, it just suffers in the same way that furry art does in that in the circles we're familiar with, it's much more often associated with amateurs.

It's sort of the same reason the hentai board on 4chan is so vocal against porn drawn in the Western style. It's not that it's always going to be bad, but Sturgeon's Law works against it much more powerfully since the Japanese have a much more active drawn/animated porn industry.

Think of the stereotypical teenage shitty DeviantArt-ist. Aren't you imagining them drawing furries and/or something in the anime style?
  • Sort of.

...weirdly, my mind has leaped to the dearth of decent Happy Tree Friends fan-art.
  • Think of the stereotypical teenage shitty DeviantArt-ist. Aren't you imagining them drawing furries and/or something in the anime style?

No, actually.  Mostly I think of Sonic recolors.  But yeah, after that it's shitty anime-style.  Still, I like shitty animu-style things better than shitty American-cartoon-style things.

  • Sonic recolors are shitty anime furry art.

    What's wrong with American-cartoon-style?
  • It's American. Didn't you have a wall of text about that?
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Most of my complaints about America are about us being shit-ass story tellers. And that's mostly due to the comic nerd clique forcing its way into everything and forcing all other writers and artists to make gritty, cynical crap that exists so the out-of-shape fatasses can say "see? the world sucks. That totally explains why I'm better off listening to Nirvana and smoking pot rather than cleaning out the refridgerator like my mom politely asked me to!"

When it comes to American artwork...

    ... I have no complaints.

  • Really? That's what you're presenting as your exemplar of American art?

    Eh, suit yourself.

Okay then, what would you have chosen?
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Okay, that's not a bad picture or anything, but... the only statement it makes as a representative of American artwork is "hey look, America can do anime too! Aren't we a bunch of good little copycats?"

Mine, at least, showed that Americans are capable of creating well-drawn and powerful images of a style uniquely their own.

    ^^^Missing the joke.

Oh wait, I forgot the show was Canadian/French. I guess it doesn't really work.

It also helps that whatever "joke" you were making was not terribly clever or funny.

Which on this forum, doesn't surprise me.

    "Also you don't exist."

Gelzo, why are you talking to Princess Celestia?

and now we have a totally-lacking-context XKCD comic.

So we've had what was an interesting discussion that derailed into shitposting, image macroing and passive-aggressive commentary as soon as it wasn't going your way. In short the exact kind of shit that caused the original IJBM to get excised.

The longer I'm here, the more I understand Fast Eddie.

What's funny is all this happened simply because I said "you know Americans can make good art too." So being a weaboo is bad, but praising anything American is bad too. Wow, what a bunch of stuck-up hypocrites.
