Ah don't worry. Correcting the stuff you get wrong is kinda fun, honestly.

And the DS does have an internal clock.
  • So, how does this sound for a FireRed Team:

    Charizard
    Cubone
    Scyther
    Dragonite
    Poliwrath
    Raichu

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
And complaining about you whipper-snapperin' grasshoppers is also kinda amusing.  Sometimes.

@GMH: Rock and Ice are not weak to each other. Never were. Ice is weak to Rock but Rock is not weak to Ice. Never has been.

Graveler is Rock/Ground. The Ice moves super-effective against your Graveler's Ground typing, not it's Rock one.

As for the Emulator thing, all of the different ROM's I've ever used just used my computer's clock. Could use Turbo etc all I wanted without issue. Maybe you just got a crappy ROM?

@Conductor: You're definitely going to find Cubone/Marowak start to drag as you go along. They're the weak link in your team. I'd recommend replacing it with Nidoking or Nidoqueen.
  • And the DS does have an internal clock.

GMH and I both know that, I think.  But the question is whether or not it's properly supported on emulators, when using save states.  I think.

@Conductor: Your team has some serious Ice weakness. Marowak, Scyther, and Dragonite are all good but having them on one team is a bad idea.

^^Marowak is ridiculously powerful, if slow. Provided you have a Thick Club.

@Neo_Crimson: Dude, Marowak has never been good. Also, between Charizard and Poliwrath he can deal with Ice easily enough.

Marowak is incredibly slow and VERY fragile. It's not worth it unless you're deliberately challenging yourself.

@CaptainFargle: Ah.  So that means that loop never really existed, and they got rid of the bug/poison loop after Gen I as well (bug used to be s-e against poison and poison s-e against bug, for some reason).

What emu did you use?  I used VisualBoyAdvance.

FOR THE RECORD: I actually own Gen I and Gen II Pokémon hard-copy carts.
  • @GMH: VBA here too. I think almost everyone who emulates GB/GBA games uses VBA.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
There are some other emus that are much less convenient with turbo and states so i might use them if I ever do want to emulate those.

Alternatively, maybe it's due to what VBA was like back then.  I remember that it had trouble emulating Ruby/Sapphire a few years back; I would presume that, assuming it's still in active development, this issue has probably been fixed by now.

    >Dude, Marowak has never been good. Also, between Charizard and Poliwrath he can deal with Ice easily enough.

Again, Thick Club. Not enough to get into OU but perfectly serviceable in an in-game run. Also it doesn't matter if he has Charizard and Poliwrath, leaving one's self open like that is a bad idea.

    I just noticed this:

Gen I Rival has an arcanine with roar (if you didn't pick bulbasaur causing him to not have charizard).

Wow, what a waste of space.

Though that makes me wonder if they just didn't get to program roar properly in time.  Clearly they intended it to do something.

Roar is excellent for bouncing away counters and stoping stat boosters. Though I doubt an A.I. would be smart enough to use it like that.

But Gen I Roar doesn't do anything in a trainer battle.  It's as useless as Splash.

    ----

IJAM: That one fisherman in Gen I who is the only other opponent trainer in the game to have a full set of six mons.  (The other one is the rival.)

It's a full set of six magikarps.

^Fun fact: There's guy like that in EVERY Pokemon game. Also Shorts Kid.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
There's a six magikarp trainer in every game in the series.

    Ninja'd.
  • @Neo_Crimson: He doesn't need to worry about leaving himself open like that. There's nothing in the game to exploit that opening. If he was heading to the Battle Tower or something I would point it out but FRLG don't even have a Battle Tower.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
    @INUH

    Even in Black and White?

Wouldn't know. I've only played gens 1-4. Maybe post-National Pokedex or something?
  • Here's something. Is it possible to trade between an emulator and physical copy of the games? Cause if so, I might not bother splurging money on FireRed...
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Not as far as I'm aware of...you'd definitely need some sort of weird third-party device.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
    Thanks for the tip, guys!
  • If that don't work, use more gun.
Emulators using a clock?  Well for NO$GBA you have to set the clock yourself.  That emulator is really outdated now though.  Desmume however uses the computer clock as it's internal clock.

  • The main weakness of my team was a lack of good offense against ice or psychic.

It's Generation I. "Take it up the ass" is your offense against psychic.
  • Ahh, I remember what a pain in the ass Feebas was to get back in Ruby. So glad I caught one male and one female. There was no way I was staking out the same damn little tile again.

    A wild WALTZY appeared!

I haven't seen you in ages.
  • Hmmm, I don't have a lot of pennies. I've decided to catch em all(TM) and liveblog my experiences.

Would you guys say it counts if I don't transfer all the mons into one game? Cause if so, I may just emulate FireRed and Emerald.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Dammit, I should've liveblogged my attempts at competionism. And here I am with under 100 left (and that's before I transfer all my Platinum mons to Heartgold), so it's way too late to start over.
