Oh, my, here we go.  Time to bring out my insistent-even-in-pointlessness arguing side.

    > 2: Why does it matter if Gastly/Haunter and Gengar are weak to Psychic?
Psychic as an attacking type isn't all that common and anything that can
learn it probably learns Shadow Ball as well and is just going to use
    that.
    > Psychic as an attacking type isn't all that common

    ...you're kidding, right?

    > 3: Mewtwo was only overpowered in 1st Gen. As is, he's now just on par
with other higher legends like Kyogre, Arceus and Darkrai.

And when you play with 1st Gen mons, it's always about siccing mewtwo on your poor opponent, or figuring out some way of dealing with your opponent's mewtwo.

    > 4: Why shouldn't they evolve by trade? It's not like they're the only ones.

    I thought they still are.

    > 5: Traded mons can't be renamed because they're not yours originally. You don't get to choose the name.

And that really sucks.  Time to haxxors.

    > 8: That would be broken as all fuck. Dragonite's Flying type is there to
stop it being too good. Making it pure Dragon with Levitate would make
Dragonite stronger than most higher legendaries. ESPECIALLY now that it
    has access to Multiscale.

It's cooler than mewtwo; it deserves more awesome.  The flying type was to make things not weak to ground.

That said, gengar shouldn't have levitate, because it clearly stands on the ground.

    > 11: Fuck no. Anime filler has no place in the games.

What.  You have the opportunity to further flesh out what is (or at least was, at that time) an awesome setting full of exploration and new sights to see all over the place.  Why not?  Not to mention that the animé was based on the games anyway.

    > If you want to go back in time and tell the devteam for red and blue to include a happiness mechanic, go for it.

Well, they could change it now.

    > Why exactly? Why are you even trying to use a Gengar of all things to take hits?

I thought the gastly series is supposed to be dodge tanks.

I mean, ghost mons like shedinja should be walls that take physical damage, because they actually have a physical body.  But the gastly series doesn't.  Not quite at least.

    > While  I can understand that for completionists at the same time it
would undermine Nintendo's whole ethos with series that "Pokemon is best
when played and shared together with friends."

Yeah, I'm a completionist, and was recently contemplating downloading a hack that would let me catch all 151 mons in a single game.

    ----

    Oh, you know what?

    12. Charizard should be fire/dragon, not fire/flying.

    13. HM moves should be forgettable.
13'. What would be really cool is if there were a way to switch in/out different movesets on the same mon.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    14. Are there any competitive battling formats that force people to use only naturally-learned moves?  Because I'm too stingy to use TMs, and I like my mons to preserve their distinctive flavor.

Also, they have to have signature moves.

    I thought they still are.
    http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Evolution-inducing_held_item

And that doesn't even cover all of them.

  • Uhhh, GMH, you know that TM's are infinite use now right?

Also no, the Gengar line are not Dodge Tanks. The Gengar line are speedy Special Sweepers like the Alakazam line.

HM moves ARE forgettable. You just have to go to the Move Deleter.

Charizard being Fire/Dragon wouldn't work because of Charizard's role as a Starter Mon. Dragon is not an appropriate type for a Starter mon.

As for the Dragonite thing. Dragonite is a Pseudo, not an actual Legendary. Mewtwo outranks it.

As for a game that lets you catch all of the mons, there's 649 of the little bastards now. Things have moved on since the 90's.

Now about Mewtwo being broken? In 1st Gen? Yes. Broken out the wazoo but back then a lot of things were completely broken and the number of Greater Legendaries was 2. Mewtwo used to be broken. That is no longer the case. It's still absolute top tier, but it's no longer broken.

As for the evolve by trade thing? No. The following is a list of Pokemon that require trading in some form to evolve:

    Boldore,
    Clamperl,
    Dusclops,
    Electabuzz,
    Feebas,
    Graveler,
    Gurdurr,
    Haunter,
    Kadabra,
    Karrablast,
    Machoke,
    Magmar,
    Onix,
    Poliwhirl,
    Porygon,
    Porygon2,
    Rhydon,
    Scyther,
    Seadra,
    Shelmet,
    Slowpoke

    That makes 21 of them.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    TM's are infinite use now
Dammit, every time I hear something about gen V, I want it even more...
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
One thing I liked about Ribbons was their feeling of accomplishment. While winning contests was a bit challenging for some pokemon without undoing most of their movesets and spending hours on making the right food to feed them, once they got the ribbons it made your mons feel more closer to you.

One of the main things I wish there were, were things similar to achivement ribbons, like "entire team sweeper" ribbons for pokemon who take out an entire team of pokemon of equal or higher level by themselves, or survival ribbons for surviving with 1 HP without being switched out or even goliath ribbons for pokemon beating other pokemon 20 or more levels above them.

Of course, since they are achievements, they can be cheated for and hacked, but they will always make for awesome little memories between different pokemon.
  • Contests were nice back in Gen 3. Then 4 came along with Super Contests and fucked the whole thing up.

    > Uhhh, GMH, you know that TM's are infinite use now right?
That's news to...oh right, I've heard of that before.

    > Also no, the Gengar line are not Dodge Tanks. The Gengar line are speedy Special Sweepers like the Alakazam line.
THEY'RE CLOUDS OF GAS, THEY OUGHT TO BE DODGE TANKS, I DECREE IT

    > HM moves ARE forgettable. You just have to go to the Move Deleter.
Oh right, there now exists a move deleter.

    > Charizard being Fire/Dragon wouldn't work because of Charizard's role as
a Starter Mon. Dragon is not an appropriate type for a Starter mon.
No, Charizard is the 3rd-stage evolution of a starter mon.  Final-stage evolutions of starter mons ought to be really powerful.  Why shouldn't charizard be dragon type?

    > As for the Dragonite thing. Dragonite is a Pseudo, not an actual Legendary. Mewtwo outranks it.
    Oh, fuck mewtwo.

    > As for a game that lets you catch all of the mons, there's 649 of the little bastards now. Things have moved on since the 90's.
    NO THEY HAVEN'T!!!!111
...and I thought there were only like 485 last time I checked...

    > One thing I liked about Ribbons was their feeling of accomplishment.
One thing I like about Ribbons is that they protect from all status ail--wait, wrong series.

Why shouldn't charizard be dragon type?

Water wouldn't be supereffective anymore, and Blastoise has no other STAB move to hit Charizard with then.

    -remembers Gen 4's contests-

    :L

    I hated them.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
and I thought there were only like 485 last time I checked
    Gen IV had 493.

As of today, I have 397 of those.

    493 in 4th Gen, I think.

    Oh, right.

    um...
    uh...
    ...
    TURTLE-TYPE!  Super-effective against dragons!

In seriousness, though, blastoise could just learn aurora beam.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
IJAM: I needed exactly one Pokemon from the Trophy Garden in Platinum. It was Castform, one of the random daily ones.

So I visited the Garden for the first time ever. Guess what today's random selection was? ^_^
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    Castform.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Well, yeah.

Of course, he's being stubborn about actually showing up...
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Well you should form a plan and then cast it out there to see if you can find him.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I'm afraid that if I get back into Pokémon, I'll be totally immersed and absorbed in it.  I already have a bit of an issue with getting too absorbed into other games that are complex and fun,...
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    ^^-_-

^That definitely happened with me. I've played more than 320 hours since I started playing again in April.
  • edited 2011-07-15 00:17:05
Blastoise can learn Ice Beam and Blizzard. It's movepool may not be the best but it has much better options than Aurora Beam, which it can't learn anyway.  Fire/Dragon would still be neutral to Ice though. Weak only to Rock, Ground and Dragon.

The issue is though that Dragon is an advanced and very powerful type.

Starters are supposed to be basic, good all-rounders and are designed to help kids who don't really know what they're doing through the game and learn more. Making Charizard Fire/Dragon is antithetical to that.

EDIT: My play time on White is currently 174:56

  • -wonders how someone could play Pokemon for more than 60 hours or so without getting bored-
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Oh, I didn't think that Ice Beam and Blizzard seemed appropriate for a water-cannon-armed turtle, that's why I suggested Aurora Beam.

But they would only get charizard pretty late in the game.

And for that matter, bulbasaur/ivysaur/venusaur being grass/poison makes for lots of confusion involving why it's weak to psychic and why it's never poisoned.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
IJBM: How roaming Pokemon's movements mostly make sense, except for when they randomly jump halfway across the map all at once.

    (Got Castform, working on Cresselia)
  • I'm grinding BP in the Battle Subway right now and I just noticed something disturbing. Machamp's pecs jiggle.

    8. Dragonite should be pure dragon with levitate.

Have you ever noticed that most Dragons have another typing that gives them a quad-weakness to Ice?

Not Kingdra though. Just Salamence, Rayquaza, Dragonite, Flygon and Garchomp, the more stronger ones.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
IJBM: Parasect doesn't get Mean Look.

So...what's the easiest Mean Look + some sleep-inducing move Mon to get? I'm kinda starting to get sick of getting roamers the hard way.
  • -remembers catching Entei and Raikou in SoulSilver-

-specifically, remembers doing so by keeping a Wobbuffet at the front of the party and just resetting if the first Pokemon I encountered wasn't a roaming legendary-

    That was annoying...
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
IJBM: Parasect is a sucky mon.

    It deserves much more love.
