    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^It's pretty good as a designated capturer. False Swipe and Spore. All it isn't good for is roamers.

Now, in combat, on the other hand...

    ^Thanks.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Feebas,

    Not in Emerald.

There are too many suckmons. I would enjoy a system where a Parasect can take on a Garchomp without dying in one hit. Legendaries can be legendaries, raremons can be powermons, it's just that the lower standards are raised a bit to make suckmons become okaymons.
  • For some reason, I can't get back into Pokemon. Even though I remember killing a lot of time with it not getting too bored, and that was with Pokemon silver. Maybe the save game being destroyed after I beat Red for reasons I don't know traumatized me or something.
  • @Cygan: Feebas only evolves by trade in Gen 5. You trade it with Prism Scales attached. It's something they added because none of the Gen 5 mechanics uses the Beauty stat.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I know how you feel; I've never been able to get back into Kingdom Hearts ever since I made KH2 unwinnable 75% through.
  • ...KH2 can be unwinnable?

Then it is a good thing I still own my copy of Emerald and an old DS Lite and I am never never losing them.

^^Apparently. I seem to be the only one who ever managed it.

Go as far away from the closest item obtaining area, lose all of your important items. Save in an area you can't leave until you win. Can't win.

This was one of the reasons why I got stuck in FFXII, was because the Leviathan sapped all of my Phoenix Downs and all my good characters were dead, so I either had to grind against a couple hundred imperial soldiers to make my bad characters better, or quit.

    Tableflipper
    Um.

    ...

    Where is that, again?

Cause if I can leave the last world right before the final battle's 2nd out of 4th stage...

Oh wait. -sees edit- you meant more along the lines of "I keep dying" rather than "I don't have important-to-the-plot items and I can't get em"
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
That isn't what happened. There was a battle where you're supposed to be stalling until something happens, but it never actually happened if played on my save file.
  • @Cygan: The Beauty stat isn't actually gone. If you transfer over a Feebas from 4th Gen that has max Beauty it will still evolve normally. The point is though that Gen 5 has nothing that uses the Beauty stat and no way to raise it, so people without 4th Gen would have no way to evolve Feebas. Thus, Prism Scales.

^ So no contests or poffin makers? :3

But it's not the only way, just the only way give certain circumstances.
  • Yeah that was bad wording on my part.

    OK.

In other news, is Furret a good Pokemon at all in the regular game? Or Fearow?
  • edited 2011-07-15 02:19:24
    000
Fearow's not bad, but if you can snag any other Normal/Flying type it'll almost always be a better choice. I'm assuming you have access to Pidgeot, too - Fearow's stronger and faster, but Pidgeot is bulkier, and if those two are your choices, pick the one that suits your team.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
But I'm Nuzlocking. I don't really have a choice, so I'm just wondering if I should swap out at the first opportunity.
  • No. He's not that bad.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Okay.

    But Furret? >_>
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Charizard.

    Fire/Dragon make.

Ha! I so can post from a 3DS.

We already have a Fire/Dragon. Reshiram, I believe.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Alright let's get a few things straight.

    >THEY'RE CLOUDS OF GAS, THEY OUGHT TO BE DODGE TANKS, I DECREE IT

Anything can be a Dodge Tank with Double Team. And something as powerful as Gengar does NOT deserve to be a dedicated one.

    >Orange Islands.

The Sevii Islands in the R/B/Y remakes were essentially the same thing. Except better.

    > Psychic as an attacking type isn't all that common...you're kidding, right?

Yeah, Psychic is actually not that great a type anymore. Offensively or defensively.

    >Dragonite being pure Dragon with Levitate/Multscale.

I'm okay with this actually. Anything to give it an edge over Salamence. You just have to explain what happened to its wings.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington

After I caught 150 of those ungrateful little fuckers, I was done. Period! So I have been out of the Poke-loop for over a decade.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    > And something as powerful as Gengar does NOT deserve to be a dedicated one.
But it's moveset is suck.  Lick, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Hypnosis, Dream Eater.  That's all it learns.

...okay, fine, its basic moveset was suck.  Confuse Ray and Hyp/DE both involve stalling.  It's helped by the fact that the gastly family is fast.  For workhorse attacks, the purportedly high special stat is completely useless for Lick (since it's physical for some strange reason), and Night Shade becomes your workhorse because it actually ignores types altogether, along with normal damage algorithms.

    > The Sevii Islands in the R/B/Y remakes were essentially the same thing. Except better.

Does it have its own gym/championship league?

Speaking of which, the way Gary had ten Kanto badges (only three of which were known) kinda gives me an idea: you could have each region having MORE than eight official gyms, and you only need eight gym badges to enter the championship.  Or four for the Orange Islands.
  • I don't care, I'd still get all of the badges.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Well, it would be nice if I didn't have to get the badges in order.

I was stuck at Sabrina for forever.
  • edited 2011-07-15 10:35:58
But you don't have to get the Gym Badges in order in Kanto. There's nothing stopping you leaving Sabrina for last. Seriously.

Seriously GMH, you need to play the newer games.

And Cygan, Fearow is actually the second best early game bird now. Staraptor is still the best obviously but Fearow got something very important in Gen 5. VERY important.

At level 53 it gets Drill Run.

EDIT: Futher explanation here, Drill Run is Base 80 Physcial Ground type attack with High Crit Rate. The only other pokemon to learn this are the Drillbur and Rhyhorn lines.

Fearow also gets Sniper as it's Dream World ability, which makes Critical Hits do Triple Damage. Scope Lens increases your Crit Rate.

Still not as good as Staraptor but way better than any of the other early game trash birds.

Relatedly, I'm still bothered by just how freaking much Unfezant sucks.
