    Here, There, Everywhere

On haruhi.net I used to have a banner with a picture of Lain and Haruhi Suzumiya standing next to each other with the word "syncretist" underneath it.

    Fun times.

So, you get the Old and New Testaments in one package...

  • "unfinished sex change"

    Well, there goes that idea.

    > > "unfinished sex change"

    > Well, there goes that idea.

    I don't get it?

I mean, yeah, I was rather weirded out by that too, but I don't really see it as a reason to not watch the show altogether.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Well, the show would have to work just that much harder to convince me it's worth watching.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

Like glenn said, it's not a good sign if a show goes "She only has small boobs because she used to be a guy and didn't complete the operation!" It's not just weird, it's kind of offensive to use such a serious operation as justification for small boobs.

In other news, Yen Press wins English manga publishing once again (And For some reason Kodansha is publishing the hated Tokyo Mew Mew sequel.)

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

My problem with Yen is that their products always feel so amateurish. The S&W novels I enjoyed but they had awkward translations, and the less said about Yotsuba and the Twilight manga the better.

(It's actually an incomplete female-to-male operation)

While her being flat-chested because of that operation is true, the operation was, at least in-story, because she had to become a male in order to do politician stuff or some shit like that. Except then some other crap happened and they ended up just cancelling it because it wasn't necessary anymore, or something.

I just think that the actual reason is an excuse for her to crossdress and be flat-chested.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Or we could just have a flat-chested female character and be done with it, rather than having to justify it.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    the Twilight manga

Yeah, we should never talk about that. The Clique manhwa they did was decent and actually improved the source material, though.

her to crossdress and be flat-chested.

Because normal flat-chested girls can't do this?

Sword Art Online has entered it's Aion arc. Quality remains the same and the OP is definitely a downgrade (Still good though).

  • Because normal flat-chested girls can't do this?

They can, but with the kind of boobs elsewhere I think that the author felt the need to make up some dumb excuse anyway.

The other flat-chested female character I can think of doesn't count because her growth distribution is rigged into her hair anyway. (I wouldn't be surprised if she had some sort of in-story canon excuse too though)

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

This story puts too much weight on boobs, we should probably move on now cause no matter what I feel like it'll weird me out even more.

Character designs for the anime are nice and sharp though.

Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Boobs are in general too large in anime anyway.

Like, in real life, they're not usually that conspicuous.

  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean

So, you get the Old and New Testaments in one package...

I like to think it's more like the anime version of Santeria.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Is that anything like Sankarea (which I also know nothing about), or is the similar spelling completely irrelevant?

    Also

This story puts too much weight on boobs

So it just gives people backaches.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

    Currently watching The Twelve Kingdoms.

    This show is exceedingly sad.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

The good kind of sad or the bad kind?

    Sankarea

Sankarea is the necromancer zombie fetish harem show, so probably not.

  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean

Santeria is a religion that is basically several other religions in a blender.

My grandmother spent a brief time practicing it (she's Wiccan now....I think. She's kind of waffly on issues of faith), but I don't really know much about it.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Oh, right, I remember it was touched on once in Law & Order.  And as usual, its bad reputation (involving animal sacrifices) turned out to be a smokescreen used by the perp (who wasn't even part of this religion) to cover up something else.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

The good kind of sad or the bad kind?

Definitely the good kind. It's the kind of sad that comes from an unpleasant introspective analysis; while painful, it's also for the best. There's also a brilliant combination of synchronicity and dissonance between the two main female characters, who face exceedingly similar internal circumstances while handling them differently. One of them is quite awful to people, but her motivations hit too close to home for me to hate her.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    -Adds to to watch list-

  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean

is Twelve Kingdoms the one about the time travelling/immortal/reincarnated theater actor?

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Maybe. If it is, I'm not far into it enough to know. It involves world-hopping and some pseudo-historical stuff, but it's a trip into a folkloric, fantasy East Asia more than anything else.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    >Yeah, we should never talk about that.

My problem wasn't so much that it existed, so much as it was completely amateurish. The artist didn't draw the panels for comic art and so it ended up with a good deal of speech bubbles and such obscuring the art.

Which is actually kind of a shame because the art in the book was pretty.

  • You can change. You can.

why were you reading a twilight manga

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    Morbid curiosity is a thing.

According to some guy according to Wikipedia...

they lettered an entire graphic novel in Times New Roman

I don't think I would be able to read it.

  • You can change. You can.

    Morbid curiosity is a thing.

Sense of self-preservation is also a thing.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    Have you met me?

  • You can change. You can.

    Fair enough.

  • (maybe EVA spoilers)

  • But you never had any to begin with.

First two episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure were fun. Low-budget, but fun. Not having read the manga, I can't say how close it sticks to it, but it's clear they aren't taking themselves too seriously (on-screen sound effects, for one), which considering the source material, makes sense.
