Considering Hyouka isn't going to be over for another month, presumably you won't be able to finish it until at least then... >.>
But also seriously you should catch up quickly. Episode 17 was such a great conclusion to an already pretty great story arc. I don't know how far behind you are, but the show has pretty much been consistently getting better since the beginning.
That makes sense. I mean, you'd obviously gravitate toward really well-received stuff first.
Eh, for the most part I've tended toward really well-received stuff always, not counting currently-airing series. And hell, one of the shows I referred to in terms of favourites was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which I did watch as it aired. (It was the first series I did so with.) I think it's mostly coincidence.
Come to think of it, I agree with most of this.
Basically all but the bit about transformation sequences. I don't really like those. Mecha transformations or magical girl transformations. They seema bit tacky.
And I agree that "generic"-looking animesque art--such as the art of the Fire Emblem games--can be pretty nice.
Transformations are all about the spectacle to me, but Mecha ones need to be like 2-4 seconds long because anything later seems "Why haven't you been shot down yet?".
Natsuyuki Rendezvous is amazing. This keeps happening with Josei, the big stuff like Kids On The Slope is never as good as the noodle character design romance stories (Aside from Chihayafuru).
Ayahi Takagaki is in Sword Art Online. That thing I said about Aki Toyosaki and Accel World has come back to haunt me.
Fufufufufufu
Hm... I'm trying to find a way to explain that Sword Art Online isn't actually all that bad, but, well, I can't. Because it really is pretty awful. It has nice animation and music, I guess, but... the characters are all flatter than a piece of paper (especially bad considering the whole point of adapting the side stories first was supposed to be to develop the characters) and so far there isn't actually a plot. Fortunately, the episode with Ayahi Takagaki in it is actually sort of decent, and technically you wouldn't really be missing out on much if you just skipped straight to it.
So I can just watch Episode 7 and be done with it, right?
Wouldn't the things they're adapting have to have character development in them first? (Not that I've read any, but considering how the author does Accel World's character development...)
That's it, I'm quitting Accel World and starting on Fairy Tail whenever they get into a new arc.
They might as well just scream out WE GOT ANOTHER 2 COURS ALL READY.
And apparently maybe episode 1, since according to aniDB her character shows up then too, but I don't know if she actually says anything.
Also, she is apparently a recurring character, since searching her name on baka-tsuki indicates that she shows up in a bunch of different chapters of the novel.
So you may have to watch more episodes in the future.
I think I'll do the one episode and see how bad it is, then I'll decide whether it's worth it.
I watched Eve no Jikan. Since I watched the movie I won't post this on the other thread.
Anyway, I really liked it. I especially liked the use of the camera, and the music.
So after reading through the first 40 or so chapters of One Piece I have to say... it's fun, but not as much as I expected. I think part of that might be that being animated improves it immensely to give all the zany action color and motion.
The anime was probably better for those points, but I can't quite remember what I watched of the 4kids dub, so I can't comment on the animation. That would put you either near the end of or past the Kuro mini-arc, right (I say mini-arc because the first 11 or so volumes probably constitutes an arc and is generally considered as such: East Blue)? I liked those chapters, but I can safely say that the series continually gets better, the more you invest in it.
So after knowing for a long time that this is something I should do... even though it's so painful...
I changed my MAL scores for K-ON! season 1 and the movie, from 10 and 10 to 8 and 9, respectively.
Because, despite my undying love for K-ON!, that's actually mostly due to how great the second season was and because I just happen to really like all the characters and not necessarily because I thought the first season was a 10/10 great show. And the first season really does have some problems like reusing episode plots (in a 14 episode series!), and having absolutely no idea what to do with Azusa once she shows up. Season 2 improved considerably because KyoAni realized that Kakifly isn't actually a very good writer. And the movie goes down to a 9 just because I don't actually feel like it was necessary and the fact that it exists kind of takes away just a little bit from the ending to season 2, even though on its own I still think it was excellent.
I don't know if this will last, but... yeah.
You all totally needed to know that.
Oh, also Yuru Yuri ♪♪'s ED for episode 8 was terrifying.
Also, Hyouka only has 3 episodes left and that makes me sad. ;_;
And Joshiraku has the best ED of the ever, but I'm sure that's common knowledge by now.
I could never do that. Eureka Seven will always be a 10 in my books, despite the obvious flaws that bring it down to 9.7... (Plus the flaws are kind of in the first and one last cour episode).
I saw that a while ago, when did it become so popular?
Plus Unite from Accel World is kind of awesomer than it, and have you seen the new AO ED, which is even better?
I gave E7 a 9/10 and that's the highest score I've given so far. Would be a 10 if they didn't screw up the ending and if early pacing was a bit less slow.
I have nothing on MAL that is 10/10, though a few things that were at one point. I have a few 9s and...a lot of 7s and 8s. Like most of the things on there are 7 or 8. I tell myself it's because most of the anime I watched were already highly praised shows and that's why I watched them so of course it's no surprise I liked them, but in truth I also just suck at being a harsh critic.
Change "highly praised shows" to "stuff that I liked enough to finish" and I entirely know this feel, bro. Specifically:
I have a couple of 3's and 4's, and a bunch of 8's, though very few 7's, and a couple of 9's. Hell, I don't even know if I put One Piece at a 10, and if that isn't a 10 in my book, nothing is.
I think I'll just make another MAL.
I actually gave both K-On seasons 10s...
I even gave No.6 a 10!
I really suck at being a critic, I just love everything...
Not necessarily. Unless you're watching shows completely at random and never dropping anything, it should be assumed that you're only going to watch a show if you have some interest in it, and if you don't like it you'll probably stop watching it and go watch something else. So, your completed shows should consist mostly of things you liked. Not to mention, you're a lot more likely to watch sequels and such of shows you like as opposed to ones you didn't... etc. So basically it's normal for your average rating to be considerably above "average," even if you're rating fairly.
Also, avoiding giving things a 10/10 because they aren't perfect is silly. Not that that's necessarily why you don't have any 10s, Nyktos, but I think that's why GMH doesn't... right?
That said, I'm kind of reluctant to give 10s. Currently I only have K-ON! season 2, season 1 of Haruhi, and Princess Tutu as 10/10, and I don't really know if Haruhi should be rated that high (there are a lot of things that bother me about it, but in practice, whenever I actually watch it I don't care and I love the show).
I have a couple of 5s, and one 4 (the RahXephon movie). Not a lot of 6s even.
This is what I meant by "stuff that I liked enough to finish".
...well, kinda.
That said, like you, I'm reluctant to give a 10/10. I think that should be reserved for the best of the best, stuff that really blows me away with its quality.
I've never seen a use for MAL. If an anime stays in my conciousness it's because of something, making a list feels redundant. Also, I make a point of not dropping anything
Hidan no Aria's dub has Leah Clark (Saki, Nodoka) in it, but she's next to the worst choice for Kinjii they could have ever made.
I love anime fans. They give us a dub of a somewhat okay show that people liked and they're all It's Aria The Scarlet Bullet not Aria The Scarlet Ammo! Because the latter is totally not a better name than an extremely literal translation.
That seems like a huge waste of time.
As for Hidan no Aria, I wasn't aware that that show actually had any fans.
Wait, which one are you saying is better, @fourteenwings ? "Aria the Scarlet Ammo" sounds really awkward.
I think it rolls off the tongue better, with the alliterative-ness.
