    1-11 plus the prequel episode 0.

    THANK YOU SENTAI

    This entire Un-Go release is a-fricking-mazing. It has shorts and ads and EVERYTHING.

    Kichigai birthday!!

    They are airing Castle in The Sky right now in the Catalonian channel. It's pretty good so far but it's hard to take it seriously with so much Laputa this and Laputa that

    Say what you will about the show, the Sky Girls logo--in-series, not the show's logo, but the team's publicity logo--is pretty cool.

    Sky Girls was a pretty okay show aside from the creepy shots.

    That logo was pretty cool, too.

    Clearly, they're going out of their way to release something worse than Bandai Entertainment's release of season 1.

    Why does every official NA release of K-ON! stuff suck so much? ;_;

    And I didn't like Sky Girls much.  Action stuff was boring, plot got in the way of slice-of-life stuff, slice-of-life stuff was also boring, character development was nonsensical, etc.  I don't remember what their logo looked like.

    ^ I don't remember if I already said this, but I remember you saying one time that the dub got rid of the Hirasawa Christmas flashback, and I just want to say that it was thankfully still there.
  • edited 2012-08-11 14:08:56

    Nah, I didn't say that.  I just said that my copy of the DVD gets all shitty once it gets to that scene, so it doesn't play the first part of it.  Presumably, other DVDs/BDs should be able to play that scene.  I was just frustrated because so far I don't think I've ever watched a Bandai Entertainment DVD release that actually, like... worked, all the way through the series.

    The only thing that was actually cut for the NA release as far as I know was Tsubasa wo Kudasai in the second episode, which they replaced with something generic-sounding since Bandai Entertainment apparently didn't want to license that song.  (which, incidentally, is going to cause problems if the movie ever gets released here, since they talk about Tsubasa wo Kudasai specifically, so that scene won't make much sense if they never actually played it...)

    Oh. That's almost worse, in a way. ._.

    I can't say I remember having any problems with any of my Bandai DVDs.

  • Episode 6 of Kokoro Connect:

    Spoiler:

    Nobody has actually learned anything in the past 5 episodes.  This is understandable because Taichi sucks but the show doesn't actually know that so it's still stupid.

    They replace the silly body-switching gimmick with a new one that seems to basically amount to an excuse for Inaba to try to fuck Taichi a lot.

    Iori decides that she wants this show to be more generic so she doesn't want to be Taichi's girlfriend, presumably so that Inaba can continue to try to fuck Taichi.

    Heartseed once again explains everything to the characters (and by extension, the audience) as if it wasn't already totally obvious what's going on.  Also he implies that he wants to watch Inaba masturbate or something.

    The last few minutes of the episode + the preview indicates that we're going to get exactly the same shit as before with everyone being depressed and then Taichi helping them by telling them something irrelevant.

    Taichi's imouto is not allowed to know what love is, apparently.

    Here's the sky girls logo: http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z82/Glenn_Magus_Harvey/91345a1623367e37ca551d4e802ad9f6b1f59cb3.png ; It's in my wallpapers folder and it came up and I was like, this is actually pretty cool.

    >  Action stuff was boring, plot got in the way of slice-of-life stuff, slice-of-life stuff was also boring, character development was nonsensical, etc.

    Sky Girls is NOT an action show.  Well maybe they tried to be one and failed miserably.

    On the other hand, it's an adorable slice-of-life show.

    I actually...couldn't find it either fanservicey or creepy.  It failed at being sexy and it somehow also failed at being creepy.  I mean, I expected at least one of those when I started watching the show.  Then I watched it, and instead found a really cute (in an entirely non-sexual way) cast of characters.

    The character development actually made sense to me.  The pacing was too slow for an action show.  Heck, it might even be too slow for a slice-of-life show.

    The saving grace perhaps was having Mitsumune Shinkichi write the music.  His very simple, lyrical style went very well with the show--at least, all the non-action parts of cute people (girls and at least one boy too) going through character development.

    I know it's not an action show, and that's the problem.  There are a ton of episodes that are entirely based on fighting aliens but the parts where they fight aliens are all boring.  Which means there are a ton of episodes that are just boring.  Notably, the last bunch of episodes where the story stops being about cute girls doing mecha things and starts being about how environmentalism is destroying the world or something (which I guess is the opposite of what they were going for, but...).

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

    Technically, it's not aliens, but rather, nanomachine-based bioengineered lifeforms gone wrong.

    Also, try copy-pasting that link.  For some reason it works when I paste it in but not as a hotlink.

    That happens with my Dissapearance and one of my .hack//SIGN DVDs! Luckily though, it doesn't happen with any of the Eureka Seven ones...

    Kokoro Connect is DYRE's Accel World now.

    I don't know why I'm mentioning Sky Girls twice in a day, but...for whatever reason I decided to put its soundtrack on as I do various errands/chores.

    The soundtrack is...overall pretty nice.  The action tracks are not really that great, because Mitsumune Shinkichi isn't a great composer of action tracks.  They're kinda generic.

    On the other hand, he really shines with tracks like this:

    I must say, if not for music like this, the show would probably be very boring to me.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    Oh yeah. I remember the reason I watched Sky Girls in the first place, I loved the OP theme for some reason.

    ^ That song is amazing. He really should work on more stuff.

    That's actually the same reason I watched it... >.> (though, I guess I probably would have ended up watching it anyway)

    And I actually watched the OP in every single episode

    Mostly because the Engrish was really silly, but still.

    Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

    The OP is...weird.  Well, first, it's an action song, which totally lies about what the series is about.

    The other thing is that its lyrics are completely incomprehensible.  Especially the Engrish lyrics; it's like every fansub has a (significantly) different transcription.  I hear that's because it's a MELL song.

    @fourteenwings: Shinkichi also did the soundtrack of Rocket Girls, which is where I first heard his work.  Broadly, it's rather similar to the Sky Girls soundtrack--very pretty simple themes for contemplative scenes, and generally less impressive action tracks.  This seems to be his style--he's very strong on melodies and simple harmonies, and knows how to work instrumentation to serve this, for creating down-to-earth emotional pieces.  It's a bit like he's the opposite of Yuki Kajiura, whose specialty is stuff sounding exotic and legendary.

    I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing that I've played this in church.  Multiple times.  It's just so simple, so easily think-up-able, and so effective as a contemplative little tune for quiet free play before the start of a church service.

    And here's a perennial fan favorite from the Sky Girls soundtrack: "Fall in Love".  Despite the fact that there is practically no romance in this show at all.  (Okay, chef boy and Karen.  Kinda.)

    I like this soundtrack far more than I like the actual show.

    PLEASE CALL ME MIDIN SKY GIRLS, FLYING PRETTY. DON'T WORRY WE ARE THE SKY GIRLS. DO WANT TO DOOOOO

    The last line (Innocent red last arms) doesn't even sound like English, just random moaning (Not helped by the fact that it does end with random moaning).

    ^^ Hmm, I should see Rocket Girls again then, if only for the soundtrack.

    ^ That's because it's leagues better than the actual show.

    I like to mention that Rocket Girls is the only series with a reverse Polish notation joke.

    Okay, fine, I'll try my hand at those lyrics:

    PREASE CALL ME MEE REE, SKY GIRLS, RISING PRA SEE

    DON WORRY WE ARE THE SKY GIRLS, DO WANT TO DO

    Those last four syllables could be heard as:

    * do want to do

    * do one to two

    * two one two two

    * do one to do

    * to one to do

    and more.

    The syllables after "rising" have been guessed as "crazy" and "for siege".

    The last syllables in the song might be "innocent re-ed, last arms" or "innosere-e, lost arm" or something else.

    There is love everywhere, I already know

    Please call me maiden sky girls.
    Rising crazy?
    Don't worry we are the sky girls.
    Do want to do?

    Shy eyes fall upon skin of steel.
    Enveloping, hiding...
    Holding one's beloved album.
    Trying to hide it unknowingly...

    That chasing love in the bones is found beneath the skies.
    Samba around the world forever!
    Pack all the things you have because we will together ride!

    In a quarrel...
    A smile...
    Will come across in my fighting dream.

    This is as scorched as love. (We'll soon get just fight...)
    I want to go, even if it's spoiled, just be with me.
    The whole world is spinning around the sun.
    While rising up, from behind I get a kiss and die!

    Oh, pretty lady's sky girls.
    Fare understood ?
    Innocent red last arms

    So it makes even less sense in Japanese.

    Just for fun, the other English parts of the song distorted by the rest of the lead singer for you Glenn.^

    So do I just have insanely good luck with Bandai DVDs? I haven't had any problems with my Gurren Lagann or Haruhi DVDs. (And I swear I had one other Bandai thing but now I don't remember what...)

  • You can change. You can.

    Nyktos, for a series with multiple seasons maybe, but Steins;Gate only has one season.

    Series are also used to mean "Seasons" fairly often. Specially outside of the American TV Shows.
