I wouldn't know, but then, who am I to judge, I watched all of Guilty Crown. God, that was so pretty, had so much potential, so fluidly animated, such a kickass soundtrack, such a great voicework. What a waste of a plot.
I remember people being disappointed with it back when it was airing. Though, I haven't watched it so I don't know anything about it beyond that, and that happens with every show anyway.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's completely ridiculous, but it mostly seemed to be good-ridiculous. I think I left the episode before the actual plot started though.
Digimon Adventure 01 coming to DVD, again.
But this time I can actually purchase it!
Just watched Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. It was very relaxing so I liked it. I also liked how nothing happens in it despite the protagonist being a robot and the world being post apocalyptic. (The word "like" has been used unironically)
Also alpha is 2moe4me HHNNGHHHHHHHH
I kinda want this game now, because it sounds hilarious.
Is that re: the K-ON! PSP game?
The actual K-On! game, imported from Japan by some dude in ADTRW. It's funny because he's playing it without actually understanding the language.
It's not like you need to understand the language to play it. One menu option brings you to the song select menu, all the other ones do things that don't matter (except saving, but that's easy enough to figure out too).
Actually, pretty much everything is easy enough to figure out without knowing Japanese, except that it'll probably be hard to figure out how to unlock certain items/outfits/scenes. But just playing the game is easy enough, since it's just a rhythm game (and you'll eventually at least unlock all the outfits just by playing the game enough).
The only thing that actually matters and isn't obvious is that there is an item that makes the game harder (by adding extra notes to songs) that you unlock some time after beating the game.
Also, it's the PS3 game, though I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes.
I don't think it would be that hard (looking at the gameplay, it's really not), but if there are dress-up options (and apparently there are), it might be a bit more difficult depending on how it's laid out and if each item is presented on screen before you put it on.
The PS3 version is probably exactly the same as the PSP version.
The dress up menu is pretty simple. It's just like... a list that's like "accessory/costume/hairstyle" or something like that and then after you pick one you get the corresponding list of things. The top one is always the default for that character (no accessory/school uniform/normal hairstyle). You have to select something before you can see what it looks like but it's not exactly difficult to just go through all of them to see what each one is.
And then be sad when you realize that the "don't say 'lazy'" outfits aren't in the game, even though any other costumes that were in the show are (they even made up a Fuwa Fuwa Time costume for Azusa).
It is, however, difficult to figure out what 99% of the usable items in the game actually do.
I'm a completionist. Though I also did enjoy Gunbuster.
I've seen a pretty cool AMV of it and now you've really made me interested.
^Don't watch it, seriously. Vandro is right, it's a well animated mess. I tried watching it to see how bad it is, and I couldn't even get half-way through.
From what I understand, Guilty Crown is regarded as a trainwreck by... pretty much everyone who watches it. Unless your only requirements for enjoying something are that it has nice animation, it's very unlikely that you will like it.
From what I've gathered, if you want any piece of media of Guilty Crown, go watch the OVA and play the Visual Novel. It's actually good, if not great. Leagues above the show.
Isn't the OVA an eleven minute ad for the Visual Novel?
So reading the Oreimo Light novel, one of the things that strikes me is how differently Kuroneko's described from the moe-goth in the series. She's described more like a sexy version of Sadako from Ringu basically.
As in... appearance, or personality? Because if it's the former, the illustrations in the novel aren't much different from her character design in the anime...
I'm just going off the prose, mind. Yeah the art isn't different but still. Kuroneko's described as distinctively sexy-creepy rather than just the cute she is in the images and animu.
Yes. And even so it is better than the whole of the original show.
Well, practically anything could be better than Guilty Crown. I guess I should see it then?
Except Accel World.
I am tempted to watch Accel World just so I can see if I've already seen anything worse.
But that sounds like a horrible idea so I'm not sure if I'll do it.
Do it, it's the only show in recent memory that has a scene where:
>Protagonist angsts for losing cool old thing
>Protagonist gets cool new thing after loosing last one
>Protagonist ANGSTS ABOUT HAVING COOL NEW THING
Despite my general dislike of Lucky Star, I really like this video for some reason
So, I finally watched last week's episode of Smile Precure!. Well, I guess that after the awesomeness that episode 23 was, the only appropriate way to follow it up was with a completely bullshit episode. The first third isn't so much an episode of Precure as it is a montage of scenes from fairy tales completely devoid of any context. The premise of this episode (that the Precure turn into fairies) doesn't really happen for any reason, lasts all of 5 minutes, and by the time the fight comes around the episode has completely done away with it, the Precure having turned back into humans already. Then it turns out that the plot coupons that they've been collecting up to this point didn't actually do what they were supposed to do so they'll have to spend the next 15 or so episodes getting another 16 Cure Decors to put the Decors in their Decor Decor, kuru~. Oh well. Next week is the obligatory beach episode, which somehow is probably going to be less pointless than this episode.
Meanwhile, I just realized that Iori Nagase in Kokoro Connect is voiced by Aki Toyosaki, even though in retrospect I think that was my original reason for wanting to watch the show in the first place, and I constantly have been telling myself that she sounds like her...
Also that video that nohaynicklibre posted is hypnotic.
EDIT: Okay fuck episode 5 of Kokoro Connect was awful. I hate this show. I'll keep watching it though since there are a few things I actually like about it and I really, really want this show to actually be good but I don't really know how likely that is now.
EDIT2 (actually, more like EDIT20 but who's counting...? >.>): Hm... maybe I've already changed my mind somewhat. >.> Certainly, as a drama it is awful but it seems that it's not actually trying to be a drama so much as just a generic romance story. Not that that really excuses it since it still does try to be dramatic and it sucks at it, but the development of the romance at least sort of works and makes sense, even if Taichi is a hopelessly boring main character. So, my opinion of the show has upgraded from "irredeemably terrible" to "boring and kind of bad." Maybe.
I felt really bad for skipping it (I thought it would end up being my Appollon for this season) but I think I'm good now.
Haven't seen Smile 24 yet, better prepare myself for disappointment of the 'Winx Club done better' thing not happening.
I just saw the first episode of Majin de Otakun English! which is both the awesomest meta anime magical girl thing and a horrid reminder of most otaku's mindsets (Of course one of the 5-7 English lines would be sketchy...)
It deserves credit for having probably the most forced drama I have seen in a recent anime. One of the characters nearly kills herself jumping off of a bridge, with the actual in-story reason just being that they've already solved all the other problems in the series so far and so the villain got bored so he switched bodies with her and made her do it. And of course then after they spend the rest of the episode philosophizing and feeling sad she ends up not actually dying or even suffering any lasting injuries, and everything is actually better than it was before.
-looks it up-
Is this... the second time POP designed characters for a magical girl anime about teaching English to otaku? Moetan wasn't enough?
That sounds... there's a villain? I thought there'd be a benevolent force/magic user who wanted to teach them all something but... a villain?
Moetan was a cash cow so of course they made a new one!
I guess not a villain per se. That is, by the end of the series it'll be as you suspected. For the time being though, he just kind of comes across like he's screwing around with a bunch of kids because he's bored, even if that's not really how it's likely to turn out.
And as for Maji de Otaku na English! Ribbon-chan: Eigo de Tatakau Mahou Shoujo... The first episode was... watchable. Well, I guess I'll keep watching it and see how it goes. If nothing else, POP's character designs are cute as always, and it's only a 5 minute show.
That does sound like screwing them over and not helping though...
Anyways, off to watch better stuff.
Though I do wonder if anybody is ogling at watching Estetica and how that's going.
