Steins;Gate's characters are in a kinda odd place really, due the pretty significant tonal shift half way through the show.
Man, the unilateral disapproval I'm getting for this is nyancanny.
^I think the shift was gradual enough to work though.
What happened to Malkavian?
Malkavian got so stressed out during Golden Week due to family issues that he was possessed by a bakeneko?
AHHHHHH NOOOOOHHHH
TELL ME
WHEAR DID WE GO SOOOO WRONG?
It's time for an exorcism.
I'll need incense, wax, parchment, and lots and lots of sharp things.
Will pencils do?
Has anybody seen Sword Art Online yet?
Your honor look at what he said
I was perfectly justified
Steins;Gate really wasn't bad for a rather anime show.
I don't even know what that means.
As has been stated, it did get rather stereotypically animu, but I liked it overall.
I haven't seen Sword Art Online, but I'm definitely curious how the image of MMORPGs has changed since .hack//SIGN.
Like I said, it's not particularly bad but I really wish that instead of having to tolerate the characters for their animuness, I actually, you know, like them.
I'm currently watching the first episode of Sword Art Online.
It doesn't seem bad so far, but I really don't care about MMORPGs, and I never really liked the VR-video-game plot for things, so the whole premise doesn't really appeal to me. And I'm only like 8 minutes in so it's hard to make any other judgments about it right now.
EDIT: Okay nevermind the actual plot was just introduced and it's really dumb.
Why is it dumb and on what level? Like, Accel World dumb?
^^ ???
The guy who made the game just made it so that he could rule the world or some shit and you can't log out of the game and if you die in the game you die in real life and you have to beat the game (despite it being, you know, an MMO) to get out. So basically, it's just a really boring and generic plot.
Sadly, most of today's anime in a nutshell.
^^ Wait... so you have to win an MMO to get out? Maybe it'll go for a Kill Em All ending since well, MMO's aren't usually winnable right?
Oh wait, there are like seven novels after this one in the series, so no.
It seems like yet more arbitrary win conditions ala Accel World, but it doesn't seem Accel World bad yet...
Hm? The post seems pretty explicit from here.
Oh, yeah, I just remembered that I left off at episode 27 of FMA: Brotherhood. I'm liking the overall show a fair bit so far, so I guess I can watch some more of it before work.
Not really. I mean, there are definitely some really boring, uninspired shows lately but that's always been true. Most of the time, though, shows at least try to have some kind of element that differentiates them from others. The thing is, the first episode of Sword Art Online does not do anything at all to make it stand out from all the other ten thousand works that had exactly the same plot.
^^ There's always room for more FMA!
^ So it's even worse than .hack, despite being made long after it?
Strangely enough, media does not get inherently better the later in time it is produced.
Stranger still, oftentimes people actually learn from the prior stuff though.
Rather irrelevant when the aim is to replicate and not to improve
Only show I am watching right now is Mobile Suit Gundam AGE
So we already have the Truth...
I watched the first fifth of Berserk recently. As expected, the animation itself was underwhelming to the point of humour, but the design sense is great, the acting—(I'm watching the sub)—is fun, and the plot and characters are truly fantastic.
Very true, Juan.
How is that, vandro? That's one of the few shows this season I've been wanting to watch because Gundam.
It's too bad that One Piece isn't popular enough here that the designers felt it justified not to release it on a disc, or, like, dub it, or do anything to localize it but put subs in, but this looks like a fun enough game. At the very least, it should be better than the other Warriors games because the characters are actually sort of cool in the way they fight. I think it's one of the few anime franchises that would justify a Warriors game.
