That might even be from the same episode. But, yeah, they ended up projecting their fantasy in real life.
Rumba, bitches.
So, I restarted watching Mononoke. I'm at the end of the umibozu arc, and I'm really curious about how they're going to wrap this one up. (Apparently Chiaki Konaka wrote this one...)
Pro tip: liking imouto moe is not exclusive to people without a little sister.
Narutaru's and Paranoia Agent's are really good, yeah. Haven't seen Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
Not "GO! GO! MANIAC!", so nope.
Indeed it is from the same episode.
I need to see Paranoia Agent and Narutaru...
Paranoia Agent is great, so yes you should. Narutaru is awful though so don't bother. The premise is interesting and there are occasionally hints of interesting things in some of the plots but overall the show suffers from trying to deal with like five separate story arcs in a twelve episode show and ultimately not managing to make any of them feel even remotely coherent. Plus, ultra-low-budget animation, even by anime standards. Even the infamous last few episodes lose a lot of their shock value since the show refuses to actually show anything overly graphic, so you just get a lot of scenes of silhouette violence. I hear the manga is a lot better though, and while I haven't read it yet I'm inclined to agree on the basis that I don't think it could be any worse. So...
I've heard uniformly great things about Paranoia Agent, but the very fact that Narutaru seems to garner such mixed, polarised reactions ("it's decent" or "it's awful") makes me rather curious.
Well, fine. Like I said, there are interesting things in it, and certainly some people liked it. Just telling you what I thought, is all.
And I appreciate that you shared your opinion on it.
Do you have any recommendations for stuff with really trippy animation? I'm a bit of an aficionado.
Um... no, apparently? Other than the obvious recommendations of anything by Akiyuki Shinbo or Masaaki Yuasa. Which is weird, because I was under the impression that I liked that sort of thing too.
Hm... Shintaro Kago (famous surrealist-guro manga author) made an OVA called Short Animation of Shintaro Kago. I haven't seen it, but certainly it would at least... be really weird. On the other hand, it looks like the animation is pretty terrible.
The first thing that comes to mind upon seeing the words "trippy animation" is Madoka Magica for me, personally.
So the final chapter of the high school storyline of K-ON! came out (and more importantly, was scanlated). A much more satisfying ending than the one for the college storyline a few weeks ago, but still not nearly as good as the original ending back in 2010. Which makes sense, because I get the impression that Kakifly wasn't really into the continuation of K-ON!. It was kind of forced and not all that great, but it did introduce a couple good characters (Nao and Sumire) and had some good moments. It's kind of sad to see the series end for good, but I still have the movie to watch, and there'll probably be a couple omake chapters when the tankoubons come out in the Fall. And, of course, as the magazine urges me, I'm looking forward to whatever else Kakifly comes up with in the future.
This. When I was at Georgia Tech, the anime club watched the first episode because we'd heard it was good, then we watched the rest of it to find out WTF that was all about.
why is manga so expensive
Because otaku.
More like, people are apparently willing to buy it at the price it's at now, and the publishers think that if it were cheaper the slight increase in sales wouldn't make up for the loss in profit.
@DYRE: I'm already very much aware of Shinbo and Yuasa's work—I've seen Madoka Magica (loved it), recently started The Tatami Galaxy (am enjoying it greatly), and plan to watch Kaiba and Bakemonogatari soon—but I was not previously aware of the Kago OVA. I'll check it out.
The price of manga and anime has become pretty prohibitive lately. But then again, the economics of Japanese animation (and, to a lesser extent, comics) are pretty screwed up right now anyway, so it's not terribly surprising.
@ JHM: More cool stuff like those are Time of Eve, Princess Tutu, and Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Princess Tutu and Utena are definitely great, but I don't think the animation is particularly "trippy," (unless it is, since I don't seem to remember either series all that well). Dunno about Eve no Jikan since I haven't seen it.
I don't think that I've heard of the first one—I should look into it—but I've basically heard nothing but good things about the latter two (with the occasional confused exception on Utena's part).
Also, demented plots are just as good as demented animation for me, though both go together nicely.
I know for a fact I'd own more than just Death Note if I didn't have to shell out something utterly ridiculous like 200 dollars for a series. oh well.
guess i need to read more scans online.
Eve no Jikan is pretty awesome. Very short too.
It is indeed awesome.
Cue someone confusing it with a certain other no Jikan.
Sensei no Ojikan: Doki Doki School Hours?
I heard there's a series called "Kodomo no Omocha" that's actually totally SFW.
That's why I used the English title just in case =P
There is.
Though, there's apparently also a Kodomo No Jikan doujinshi that is named Kodomo No Omocha, so...
Also, there's a different anime that is also named Kodomo No Jikan that is not loli (I think) but is hentai.
@Super_Lazuli: And we certainly don't want that happening.
what exactly does "no Jikan" mean, anyway?
"Time of"?
"Jikan" (時間) means time. "No" (の) is a particle that indicates possession or something like the English "of." So... yeah. Usually it'd mean something like "time of" or "'s time."
