Well, it gets the knights at least in ADWD.
^ I still haven't read DWD, so I'm starting a reread of the series, starting with Clash. Because it's been so long I can barely remember anything that happens after the Red Wedding.
One of the interesting things about Captain America is that he isn't patritotic in the sense of "I stand by my country, whether it's the right or wrong thing to do", but that he sincerely believes in the USA potential to be a good place where men can strive and become better people, even if the reality says otherwise. And he's willing to help turn the world into this place he envisions. He also doesn't do things because the governments commands them and in fact, he enlisted not because he believed the government was right, but because he believes the nazis were evil (And they kinda were)
he also punches hitler in the face, how cool is that
Not much happens after ASOS, the last two books are mostly catharsis I guess.
Yeah, I stopped in the middle of the fourth book because Martin kept introducing new characters and locations, which is essentially starting new stories while I was much more invested in what was happening with the already considerable cast of established characters. Eventually, it just became too frustrating to read, especially with the awesome climax concerning the Night's Watch.
^ Pretty much. I really enjoyed the first three (even though Martin's prose is shit tier), but AFfC is just so plodding. And for the love of God, Martin, no one cares about Brienne.
I remember liking FfC. Not gonna argue over it or anything though, since it's been a while.
the list of reasons why everest is not bro-tier are getting bigger.
granted, i'm just watching the show, so maybe there're issues in the books with her or something
^^ It wasn't entirely terrible, but there were still either 400 or 600 pages to go, and it just wasn't as good as any of the other books, so my motivation to continue was pretty much zapped. There might have also been schoolwork getting in the way, but I don't particularly care to revisit the series any time soon; I have enough to read as it is.
^ I find her to be one of the least interesting characters (in terms of characterization, rather than concept; the idea behind her is actually pretty good) , which is only compounded by her chapters in the series. But damn, was she really introduced as early as the second book? It's been a while since I read ACoK.
Yeah, he really should have time-skipped after ASOS like he was thinking of doing.
@ Juan: It's not her character, but her arc in a later book. She is indeed boss, especially last episode.
I like Brienne a lot.
Actually, I enjoyed Brienne's parts because she was established alongside other established characters and didn't become her own plotline until she had something of relevance to do. That said, she's "the end of the line" so to speak -- the last new character I really accepted as an interesting part of the overall story.
What I wonder now is whether the TV series will diverge from Martin's questionable decisions over the past few books or not.
It looks like the show's already taking some liberties for the better, and hopefully they'll do the fourth book without the fluff.
She isn't terrible, as a character (though she's not high up on the list, for me; she just doesn't make me feel, like certain other members of the cast do). But she has the dullest chapters this side of Bran.
To me, the weakest of the films is The Incredible Hulk, which is ironically my favorite, it is way more subdued than the others.
How do you feel about it compared to Hulk? =P
Funny enough, I'll be getting Hulk: Ultimate Destruction soon. Good times will be had.
Hulk didn't really have Tim Roth, or The Abomination. So it falls short of Edward Norton's version.
The original Hulk has an issue and is that it sucks harder than a black hole
Well, it had Nick Nolte, which was entertaining.
Element Hunters is actually making me curious about chemistry. I spent some time looking up silicon carbide only because it showed up in the end credits of one episode.
And Ally Connolly is starting to grow on me. Used to think that the colony-based trio was annoying, but that's since changed.
Hamsterdam...Pretty clever idea, if too idealist on the writers part.
It's not really that idealistic. At least, the writers don't pretend that it's a good idea, as I recall.
But yeah, I loved Bunny's plot.
They really do, they consider it a good idea, but morality and society get in the way of it. Results deem if an idea is good or not. And hamsterdam produces results.
HOLY SHIT, episode 13 of Element Hunters is a MAJOR, MAJOR wham episode.
Hamsterdam did produce results, but the issue is that those results were just a play on the numbers in order to make it look as if the problem was gone (Which to be fair, it was, but only gone from the authority's eyesight)
Hamsterdam sacrificed the pursuit of drug traffic but it still got a reduction of homicides, which was the goal all the way.
It did? Huh. All I remember about Hamsterdam is that it was Colvin playing on the numbers in order to refocus the unit's efforts into something he found meaningful, but I thought he also did it with the intention of convincing the higher ups that drugs were losing their steam in Baltimore.
His bosses wanted a reduction in homicides above all.
So I added the 981st and final ring to my bag...then realized I'd forgotten to buy the drawstring for it when I was at Walmart today T_T
