Well at least he managed to get the nocking point right, something Hawkeye halfassed in the movie. He has no reason to be crouching down like that though.

Unless you just mean that with reference to Umineko specifically, in which case... I guess I have no opinion since I haven't watched it.

Well, yeah, but it's not like mysteries can only be entertaining right at the end. As long as the first part of the story is entertaining enough (and if it's not, then there's no point in watching it anyway), then it should at least be, like... acceptable to watch, even if there isn't going to be any resolution.

Still, given the choice between the version of the mystery story that has an ending and the version that doesn't, the former is generally more highly recommended.
Also, there's the fact that parts of the concept are strongly tied to the visual novel medium.

ETA: But yeah, to be honest, the only really good thing about the Authority was when it was good flashy adventurous fun. Bryan Hitch is probably one of my fave artists because of that.

To be fair, there was a lot of "what just happened" in S1 as well.
I liked S2, but mostly because of the ending. The middle was kinda...:/
Really? I thought the ending was by far the worse part of season 2.
The ending wasn't as good as anything in S1, but the middle of S2 was...well, frankly, not really doing much to hold my interest.
I guess I'm a rarity in that I actually found Suou's character arc interesting.
I need to get around to watching Season 2 of Darker than Black, but I just can't seem to work up the energy after hearing about some of the negative hype. I did watch the OVAs that happen in between S1 and S2.
^^I did admittedly like her character arc, but a lot of the other stuff that was going on just didn't do much. For example, Norio's little arc seemed to just be there as filler.
Don't let it get to you. It's mostly just that season 1 was really awesome and season 2 is just pretty good.
Watching the OVAs was probably a mistake; I generally suggest watching them after S2, which is when they were released.
Honestly I have to say that I'd probably have enjoyed season 2 a lot less if I hadn't watched Gaiden first.
I could be wrong, of course, since I only have one perspective ;P
I just felt like there was something unexplained going on that I wanted answers to that kept me watching. Had I watched Gaiden first, I'd have known the answers. So that would have either made the experience as a whole better, or made me less interested. I really couldn't say for sure.

As for watching the OVAs first, the reason I watched them first, I found out through spoilers about Hei's personality change, so I watched the OVAs to find out what happened. I suppose if you take the outlook of looking at it as a mystery to see what happened, I can understand how it would be more enjoyable to see it without the OVAs. Still, on a personal level, even though I haven't seen it, I'd have a harder time enjoying a curmudgeony, drunk Hei without knowing why he changed.
It does take a lot of the mystery out of the first few episodes, yes, but I think the fact that it gives some context outweighs that. The fandom's general reaction to the beginning of season 2 was so negative, I think, largely because it just does not follow at all from the ending of season 1. As season 1 went on Hei became more and more sympathetic and seemed to be moving toward becoming almost heroic...and then suddenly he's a violent drunk who kills former allies in cold blood and beats up children. With the context given by Gaiden, it's believable and understandable that he ended up that way, and your reaction is more of a hope that he can become what he was before as opposed to just a "who are you and what did you do with Hei" type of thing.
