  • Malk: He also met Conan, who has met Thor.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Yep. I don't think the Conan comics are in continuity though.
  • Probably not, but in some Universe, those events took place. So Elric met "a Conan" who met "a Thor". I'm writing an encylopedia/catalouge of all this shit.

  • Hearing my dad compare gay marriage to bestiality is nothing short of maddening. TT_TT

    Kay4Today.

  • You can change. You can.

So, I'm in a writey mood after the Magic thread and my binging of Borges, even though it's going to end up with a bunch of ideas I'll ditch later or something. Bleh, I hate it.

  • Does she have any surviving family?

  • You can change. You can.

Her dad, brother and girlfriend, from what I recall.

  • Fucking sucks, man. I would offer condolences, but I've got nothing to add.

"I wasn't aware of this person either. Sad she died, I guess, assuming she wasn't a sockpuppet like certain other people who died on TV Tropes..."

This sounds nowhere near as phony as the other two cases.

I wish the people that knew her well.

I agree, but they made it rather easy to be cynical about such things.

One foot in front of the other, every day.

I wasn't particularly familiar with Kay, but I have no reason to believe she's not a real person. If nothing else, her presence was too consistent and long-term, whereas most ghost accounts have a limited span of time before the owner pulls the trap, so to speak.

In any case, I'd rather express solidarity with others over this than presume Kay a fake. If her account was just a ghost, then shame on me. But I'd rather be shamed for standing together over a farce than shamed for standing apart when I should have been compassionate.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

Wait, who was the second fake death on TVTropes? I only remember Leanan. I don't doubt that Kay was a real person, though, and while I didn't know her, I also give my condolences.

  • a little muffled

@MadassAlex: I don't actually think she's fake and didn't mean to give that impression; I just find it necessary to include that "if" at this point.

@Everest: Technically it was never confirmed he was a sockpuppet (as far as I know), but there was that Elmer guy, and there might have been another one.

  • The Something Awful thread managed to pull out incriminating evidence that Elmer's so-called wife was a phony.

  • Who the heck is Elmer?

    a little muffled

Troper from ages ago. Claimed to be a former pro wrestler. Then his wife joined, and shortly later, he "died". Then his wife's cousin(?) joined and shortly later his wife found a reason to leave. I think like five or six people related to him had accounts, and always found a way to only have one of them active at a time. Also they all tended give large amounts of information about their personal lives (notably: first names of everyone they mentioned).

Also there was no information anywhere on a wrestler by the name Elmer claimed.

I think the main reason few people expressed doubts was the fact that he allegedly died.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

It's easy to look at all the pieces in retrospect, but the internet doesn't necessarily give people much of a good reason to disbelieve such things in a social context. If they're not trying to sell you something or otherwise sap your resources, why not believe? They've got nothing to gain by lying and you've got nothing to lose by believing.

  • You can change. You can.

Kay posted pictures and voice files fairly constantly. She could still be a sockpuppet controlled by her girlfriend or whatever, but I have no reason to believe she is one. I said it before elsewhere that if she's fake, then shame on whoever's behind the fakery for doing such a horrible thing. But if she isn't and I didn't give feel any sympathy nor expressed such (Especially having been a friend of hers. Or as much as you can be a friend with people over the internet, anyway), then I'd feel like the worst douchebag.

  • a little muffled

To be honest it was a while before I started to doubt it too, so I really shouldn't criticize anyone. (And I more or less believed in all of El The Daze's sockpuppets when the one happened.)

  • Has friends besides tanks now

So I feel like binging on some horror movies on Friday. Anyone got any recommendations for stuff I could reasonably expect to find? I was thinking The Blair Witch Project, so far (how good was it? All I know is that it's pretty popular, supposedly really scary, and helped to popularize "found footage" horror movies), and . . . what was it called, Audition (or is that just torture porn)? If I can find that.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Drag Me To Hell, Videodrome, The Fly (either version), Lost Boys, The Whisperer in The Darkness, Cronos.

As for Audition I wouldn't call it torture porn, though it gets pretty damn grisly. (Rob Zombie walked out on it) It's very slow which makes the incredibly fucked-up third act all the more disturbing.

  • Horror Express is a classic horror film in the public domain (aka the whole thing is legally available on YouTube). It even has Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing (and a cameo by Telly Sevalas)!

  • Has friends besides tanks now

    The Whisperer in The Darkness

    Wasn't that a Lovecraft story?

    Works for me. I hope.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Yeah, The H.P. Lovecraft historical society just released a film adaptation of it. It's really cool, because they film as though it was made in the thirties, right down to the effects, which still look good.

Eraserhead is good also if you want something surreal. If you're into animu horror, Another is pretty good and has the honor of being the only piece of animation to make me wince. There's also the original Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween if you're into slashers.

Also, fair warning. While Audition is an amazing film. It is supremely fucked up.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Whoa, really? That sounds awesome. I need to see this.

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I may get ostracized for this, but I really like the first Saw movie. 2 and 3 are pretty entertaining, too, but they're much more torture porn-y.

And the first Paranormal Activity (I haven't seen the others) is pretty creepy too.
