  • Yer darn kids and you lesbian face-book images!

  • You can change. You can.

In which Alkthash reveals he's a jolly drag queen with a propensity towards kinky fuckery.

    I'm a damn twisted person

  • I don't even call it violence when it's in self defence; I call it intelligence.

And the worst part is I know for a fact that he blocked his parents on Facebook, so there's no way this is going to backfire on him.

Oh come on. While the picture coupled with his lesbian threeway comment is just facepalm worthy, the picture in itself is hardly something bad. As Alktash has said, both closed and more romantic than erotic. Nothing that should backfire.

    I don't get it.

But hey, if you're about to get him in trouble for liking animé, then don't let anyone stop you.

    Spoiler:
    anime sucks

    a little muffled
Given the context of his previous remarks I can see being creeped out by the picture but really that just looks like something someone here would use as an avatar. Not like the one friend of mine who was "liking" furry porn and thus making it appear on everyone's news feed...
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

...I looked at that picture and I was thinking, while this is a bit hypocritical in light of earlier statements about lesbians, I really don't see how this is scandalous at all.  Tons of people have cute anime girl backdrops on their facebook pages.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

I guess it's more jarring for me because I know it's being used by someone with a problematic view of homosexuality, and I maintain that he needs to be corrected on his lesbian three-way opinion, if he wasn't already corrected and I missed it. But, yeah, the picture isn't too bad in itself.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    It's not scandalous.

    Annoying, though.

  • What is screenshotting and telling his parents even supposed to do? Best you could do if you want to go the name-and-shame route is having screencaps of his views and then sent it to the appropriate PIWs: http://facebooksexism.tumblr.com/

  • Just let it be, lest you become one of those Facebook Activists that post stuff like this all of the time.

  • I don't even call it violence when it's in self defence; I call it intelligence.

While posting such stuff endlessly surely can be annoying (but hey, your own fault for being on facebook ;) ), the picture itself is right.

  • But you never had any to begin with.

(but hey, your own fault for being on facebook ;) ),

...Except it's nearly impossible to avoid using Facebook nowadays?

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

UE tells me he's not on Facebook, fwiw.

I also only grudgingly use it, mostly because two clubs I'm in organize using it.

Otherwise I'd just leave a placeholder profile that I'd update once every few months.  Just so that I lock in control of my own publicity.

  • Do you really think wind power is a remotely viable alternative? Even in its current form, nuclear power is still the best midterm energy source available, and the current smear campaign it has been subjected to only works to delay the research into better materials than uranium, more efficient methods, safer plants (they're still among the safest for most places in the world) and better waste disposal... and perhaps even the further development of fusion power, as unlikely as it now seems.

But, even if you don't like nuclear power, wind power still sucks when compared to the other "green" alternatives.

Yeah, but it's a pain in the ass for my class to share things with each other via e-mail.

    Oh, you edited. :V

  • I don't use Facebook. :(

Is it any better than a cell phone?

...Man, I'm starting to feel like an old man.

I don't know if you're being serious or not.

  • I'm serious.

Facebook seems to me like one of those things that'd get annoying very quickly, what with the fact that nearly everyone I know doesn't want to shut the fuck up about goddam memes already

I don't have, never had and don't plan to have an account on that damn data kraken.

They are 'safe' in that, yes, nuclear meltdowns are rare. However, isk evaluation consists of two parts, likelihood of risk and severity of the risk, and while the first factor is okay, the second is the problem. Back in the 80s they used to say that statistically a nuclear plant will suffer a major disaster only every 10,000 years or so - well, we have over 100 plants on the planet now, so even if we accept that figure that would statistically mean a major fallout every century or so. And that is not acceptable, because a nuclear accident isn't like, say, a fire: A fire may cost dozens, maybe even hundred lives, but afterwards you rebuild. It is an acceptable risk hence, something one can "shrug off". Not so much with nuclear accidents: If the winds at Fukushima had blown southward, towards Tokyo, or if something like Chernobyl had happened in insanely densely settled Germany... Game Over. At least in the latter case, millions of deaths and no chance of rebuilding. So one can't accept even the slightest risk of that, simply because of the severity of it.

In fact, insurance companies know this. On the free market, no company would insure a nuclear power plant, because of their own risk calculations - and who is more experienced at that than insurance companies? So worldwide, nuclear plants can only run because governments subsidy insurance, or take it over themselves. Which means additionally that nuclear plants wouldn't even be profitable on the free market, they only make profit due to government will. Due to corporate welfare.

But, even if you don't like nuclear power, wind power still sucks when compared to the other "green" alternatives.

Eh, how so? Solar cells are still ridiculously inefficient. Water power works, but only if you have the right geography. Geothermal and tidal power are even more dependent on geography. Meanwhile, you can put wind parks most everywhere and they have a better efficiency than solar cells. So wind power should IMO definitely be the flagship for regenerative power.

    It used to be.

Then they made it so that you can't join groups yourself, but you can only be approved after requesting to join or be thrown on a group by someone else.

That's nothing like how groups work in real life, unless you're talking about secret societies.

Well, I think that's like all social stuff. Some people are just annoying about it.

Facebook allows me to keep in touch with several people I knew in high school, and various extended family members of mine that I don't mind keeping in touch with. It's cheaper than calling them constantly, and I can keep up to date with various companies and groups I'm invested in (such as several book review groups I keep up with, and several long-running book series whose fans run groups that post information about them).

Furthermore, groups can allow you to keep up with a bunch of people and content they post. My class has a Facebook group- mostly because my class has several units on social media and we all need to keep up with it, but also so we can share information on relevant topics we find, etc.

It can get incredibly annoying if the people you friend are annoying; there's one guy who I had to hide all the posts of because he kept posting about all his one-night stands, for instance. But other than that, it's pretty nifty.

  • Definitely not gay.

    I...

    yeah, you're right.

I should probably just let this one go.

  • But you never had any to begin with.
"I don't have, never had and don't plan to have an account on that damn data kraken"

Like it or not, nowadays, Facebook is one of the only ways of getting information about people you aren't in direct contact with. Unless you are a hermit, you will know people, and things can happen to those people.

As a personal example, my cousin came out as trans via Facebook. Without it, he would have had to come out to everyone in the (really bloody large) family one by one.
  • Definitely not gay.

I actually did want to screencap the whole mess and show it to his parents. His parents are nice, but they're REALLY fucking conservative fundies (every Saturday and Sunday, until he was 13, they forced him to go to Korean church with them) and are thus not likely to approve of his lesbian-loving ways.

But again, I should let it go.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

The people can be pretty fucking annoying sometimes, especially if you, like most people, friend people who might have just been acquaintances rather than only close friends who share your tastes and sense of humor. But it's hypothetically a good way to keep in touch with people, and I can't imagine a phone is more efficient for group communication. Email certainly isn't.

^ Good call. Settle anything that's worth settling with him alone, rather than needlessly embarrassing him.

  • Definitely not gay.

Yeah. He might be a homophobic twerp, but he's still my friend.

  • I don't even call it violence when it's in self defence; I call it intelligence.

I don't feel the need to keep myself constantly updated about everybody. Now communication, okay, that's important, because I'm no hermit. However... Whatever happened to Instant Messengers, for example? They used to be really popular, but nowadays everybody seems to be on facebook or twitter... which is much the same except everybody can read along.

But again, I should let it go.

Seriously now. Fetishizing homosexuality is bad, but Christian fundies are worse. You seem to to really blow this out of proportion.

    You can change. You can.

Honestly, the only reason Facebook / Twitter / Tumblr can get annoying is simply because your friends might be annoying. So you might want to look into that.

^ Well, I still use IRC and Jabber-shit to talk to friends. - shrug -
