@Counterclock: Oh I definitely agree, there is a huge disconnect between forum goers, editors, troper talers, and the like. You see this all the time, like how people don't know about the Analysis and Review namespaces,  that calling yourself "this troper" is discouraged, or know that gushing is just as delete worthy as overt negativity.

To use a personal example, I actually didn't think Troper Tales was that bad until relatively recently. I knew it was bad going on all the jokes, but I could scarcely imagine HOW bad until This Troper came around. If I knew exactly what kinds of shit were going on there earlier I would have acted MUCH sooner than I did.

^^^^^ I didn't know that the ballot-stuffing was actually occuring. I apologize for that.

^ Did you submit the TRS for that page?

And no, Glorious, the thread went on after the crowner issue for at least a week, where input from the SA members was welcome and considered. Discourse was not shut down on our end.

The thread on Something Awful's side was locked, because their moderators thought of it as a forum invasion.

The only thing Eddie did was institute a "account must be one week old to vote" limit.

edit: To back up what I said...

Eddie's post where he let us know irregularities were spotted.

The thread then went on for another 5 days and 30 pages, and you can see in the second to last page that Ninja_Orca at the very least was participating right til the end.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Thread created. I hope this doesn't end in disaster.
  • You can change. You can.
Thread will be watched and is now under my ever-watching eye

    Engrish_Ivy,

If you still want to contribute to the wiki and believe that you can, then I would recommend sticking around. You can ignore the forum outside of specific threads you like or try to stay in certain areas that you know will not bother you much.

On a somewhat related note, I would rather this place not become focused on bashing TV Tropes. I certainly think it is fine to discuss it here from time to time, but if IJBM II is ever going to be independent at all, I feel like it needs to shift away from those kinds of discussions.

I also dislike it when people here or in the absent tropers thread in Yack Fest talk about how the userbase is really dumb, messed up, or what have you. While there are certainly behaviors I have seen there that I dislike, I do not buy the idea that most or many people on TV Tropes are creepy or annoying and such and I would prefer to not see them insulted like that. I doubt saying such things will really change the behaviors there that genuinely are negative and I find it rude to criticize other tropers when one posts in a thread to say one is leaving TV Tropes.

    ^^^ It will.

Unless it's something overtly pornographic, nothing is too creepy for TV Tropes. Creepiness is subjective.

    Definitely agreed.

I don't think it shall be the focus, but as it is, to be able to discuss this problems without having Eddie shutting this shit down and being able to make up my mind as to how I feel about the site is...well, a relief, really.

I do think that the generalizations going arond that the whole of TvT is creepy and annoying are...well, annoying.
  • I actually like a few people on TvTropes because they're weird.

The wiki would be less fun without Aondeug and Beholderess around, for example.

That reminds me of something. There were points on this thread that devolved into talking about how specific Tropers suck or offend your sensibilities through their presence there or whatever. That's against the rules here. I'm not going to lock either thread because I think some positive things, for both this site and for TV tropes, can come from it, but no cross-site personal attacks.

And since I went to the trouble of typing out a nice long message saying not to do it, the next person who does that will get a weekban.

Other than that, though, carry on. These are mostly good threds.

Aondeug might be weird, but she's not just weird, you know? She's also quite smart and she's not as much of a dumbass as her jokes might make you believe
  • "I do think that the generalizations going arond that the whole of TvT is creepy and annoying are...well, annoying. "

I don't mind it so much from people outside the site that admit to using hyperbole to make fun of us.

It's more frustrating coming from those who really should know better.

Probably all of this post should be redacted, even though I'm not sure if it crosses the line or not. :|

If this post is even, I go in that thread and claim you guys are attempting to raid TV Tropes, by supporting measures en masse in an attempt to convince people there's a consensus in favor of the things you want to change when there isn't.

    EDIT: It's odd.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
I love how Neo_Crimson's thread so far consists entirely of IJBMers.
  • @inkblot: Wait, everybody here was a member of TV Tropes first, how does this count as a raid?

You know how in every online Presidental poll back in '08, Ron Paul always won?

Maybe "raid" was the wrong word.

Honestly, I just thought ruining your plans to help TV Tropes would be funny and would increase your anger at the site. Calling it a raid would have pushed the right buttons..
  • ^^ It has only been open for around 20 minutes.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
So far it's gotten nothing but support, all from IJBMers but still, I'll give it until Saturday and if nothing changes. I'll cut the offending stuff then see if any dissent appears then.

    Good idea Y/N?
