  • Someone just suggested that it gets renamed to "Framily".

If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
If it's being used in English, no matter how little, it's a Loanword.

    No, it is not.

-looks at Mickey Mousing and Tsundere-

Tsundere does not have a valid English term we can use. All the ones we thought up are a) Unclear, b) Too long, or c) Reliant upon reading the page. While Tsundere is also reliant upon reading the page, it inherently describes the Trope. Even Eddie has agreed that Tsundere should stay.
  • Cygan, the definition of "Loanword" is "A word from Language A being used in Language B". It doesn't matter how often it's used.

    You can change. You can.
I still dislike it. CAN YOU BLAME ME!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Also, as I've said before, the only thing that bugs me about Tsundere is not the name, but that page. Maaaaaaan, that page is the very epitome of TL;DR.

And I dunno, I know it's just an opinion and I know it'll never happen, but I do like Hot and Cold quite a bit more than Tsundere.

^ A loanword (or loan word) is a word borrowed from one language and incorporated into another.[1]

    Notice the "incorporated".

    Somebody shoot me.

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I BLAME YOU JUAN.  I BLAME YOU HARD.

That page does suck though.  It's not that difficult a concept to describe.

Yes, it does. In order for a word to become a loanword, it needs to be in common usage.

    Yes.

Hot and Cold makes me think it's a Fire versus Ice thing, like in Xmen with Pyro and Iceman.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that "Nakama is being renamed" at this point. While the current thread seems to have a lot of support for renaming, the lead has dropped from "Overwhelmingly in favor of renaming" to "Too close to call" over the course of a single day.

What intrigues me about this particular TRS thread is it's one of the few to have a Wiki Headline that points to it. I'm interested to see how it all plays out, with so many potential people drawn into the thread that normally wouldn't be visiting TRS.
  • I'm surprised that everyone wants to rename Nakama (which it should), but one wants to rename Mukoku Seki to "Everyone Looks Like White People".
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

It is currently 2:25-1. That's not too close to call at all.

    We're looking at this too.
  • "We're looking at this too."

    okay seriously what the fuck

"Everyone Looks Like White People" was a joke

    Not that trope in particular.

We're looking at foreign Trope titles and seeing if its' necessary to leave them as-is, or if there's a valid English term we can use.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Juan is tsundere for tsundere. So meta.

@Cygan: Keep in mind that it requires a 2:1 ratio or greater for the rename to go through (short of admin fiat.) If it even settles at 1.99, it will remain the way it is.

And when I say "Too close to call" I mean that it's too close to declare with certainty that it will be renamed at this point in time, especially given that the crowner will remain open until at least Tuesday.

It was Eddie, and he was joking.

He does like the title and he will propose it, though, but that's just it, though, a proposal and a choice, not Eddie forcing the title on the page or anything.

In fact, it's a word that has been in use since 2003...

Juan is tsundere for tsundere. So meta.

I'd be Tsundere for it if I had any affection for it. Which I don't. Not in the slightest. But I've learned to deal with it.
  • "Framily" sounds so goddamn stupid I want to punch whoever invented it.

I'm fairly sure that if it's not in clear favour of keeping the Trope named as-is, Eddie will pull admin fiat.
  • Glaives are better.
"Band of Brothers" sounds better, and it's something that's actually used in real life.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I like Band of Brothers a lot, but I don't think we're allowed to name tropes after works.
  • Band Of Brothers does not need knowledge of the work to know what it means.
  • 2:1? I know Nakama is widely used and linked to, but that's too big a ratio to meet, I think. I'd have had it at 3:2 or so.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
That's not the point.  It causes confusion.  And I'm not even sure it's an actual rule.
  • @Cygan: I agree that it's a possibility, which is why I included that bit in my post. However, he's had ample opportunities to Admin Fiat away Nakama in the past, but he's chosen not to do so. So it remains to be seen what will happen.

If he's planning on doing that, however, I wish he'd just go ahead and get it over with so that we can get this issue behind us.
  • I thought we stopped that and started using different namespaces for works that share names with trope pages or other works.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    We already have that trope.

@Stormtroper: 2:1 is referring to the ratio of "Yes, Rename" to "No, don't rename" votes. Requiring 2:1 for title changes has been standard practice in TRS for as long as I've participated.

It can certainly be done, as evidenced by the numerous successful trope rename proposals in
    the past.
