  • Glaives are better.

"We Happy Few" or "We Band of Brothers," then.

It's ultimately a quote from Henry IV.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
@Cygan: I agree that it's a possibility, which is why I included that bit in my post. However, he's had ample opportunities to Admin Fiat away Nakama in the past, but he's chosen not to do so. So it remains to be seen what will happen.

In the past, there was always an overwhelming majority in favour of keeping it as-is, and it was determined as not worth the effort.

    I prefer one word.

That's why I like "Nakama". It's a simple word. I can say "Bob and his Nakama". "Bob and his Band of Brothers" sounds a little wordy.

That's why I support "Camaraderie". It gets the point across and it's one word.

Though it's fucking impossible to spell correctly.

    Too similar.

    Not really...

Because we have that word in Spanish, I do not mind at all. =D

@Cygan: Again, I'm not saying it's impossible for Eddie to drop the fiat hammer on the title if the crowner doesn't work out for renaming.

I'm just not sure why you seem to be so certain he will, given that there's no indication of such in the TRS thread.
  • You can change. You can.
Eddie is unpredictable while predictable, to say the least.
  • Glaives are better.

It describes the trope the best. Just because a popular series named after it came out relatively recently doesn't mean the average newbie can't navigate to it easily.

A trope named after moonspeak, though, isn't as easy to find if you don't know anything about anime or whatever.

Nor is Xanatos Gambit, but hey.
  • To be honest, it takes three seconds to click a link and find out what it means.

Anyone too lazy to do that needs to GTFO the site.
  • You can change. You can.
Yes, but it makes enjoying a work page harder. and wiki walks easier, I'll admit.

Now, it's a subjective deal, but I hate wikiwalking. When I want to consult something, then I want to find out in the quickest possible way, not by having to click on thirteen tabs to completely understand a sentence.

    Thriteen Laconic tabs, then.
  • Oh what the fuck

they're thinking of altering Beyond The Impossible from it's common use of "Taking things to utterly awesome/ridiculous extremes"

    dude

    that's just wrong

Let's be honest here: this isn't much about understandability and whatnot so much as it's about TV Tropes's image.

    Beyond the impossible should be:

Up to Eleven repeated over and over within a single work.

Notice how it is used just to mean "Up To Eleven", but more!

^To be perfectly honest, I didn't think of that till you mentioned it just now.

    It's Eddie >_>

-shrug- It's the most likely course of action he'll take, given his disdain for the name.

^^^This. So much this. Which is why it annoys me.
  • But that use is more awesome and better IMO.

A lot of these "mis-uses" are cooler than the original use. That's Trope Evolution, not Decay.

It's about how people can view the Trope. If there's an incomprehensible name, people aren't going to be linking to it.

    Evolution,

but the bible says Evolution is bad DO IT FAGGOT I DARE YOU TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY
  • The bible never actually says anything for or against evolution.

^^^ That's a part of it, maybe, but the real focus here is that people on TV Tropes are sick of other people calling them weeaboo neckbeards, so they're starting to take steps against the most infamous culprits in that regard. That's why Nakama is getting the most high-profile rename, while other trope names that might be similarly incomprehensible aren't.
  • You can change. You can.
Well, if that was the case, then it would have been brought up and agreed upon in one of the 100000 threads we've made about reputation.

The entire point of the trope is to be negative.

    THE ENTIRE FUCKING POINT.
  • You can change. You can.
Now, now, let's not go and bash TRS, because that'd be importing drama and shit.

Also, because I forgot to adress here:

But that use is more awesome and better IMO.

    It is also incredibly redundant.

  • "It is also incredibly redundant. "

It also sounds really goddamn cool.

No, we started renaming them because it was brought up in a thread. This thread was brought up by fans of anime when Eddie vetoed a trope called Ryokan, a specifically Japanese inn, and agreed to let it back in under the name "Ryokan inn", despite the redundancy.

We argued for a while as to whether Tsundere needed renaming (consensus said not really). Then Nakama was brought up, and a bunch of people said "Yeah, that one needs to go" in relation to the earlier discussion, so I started a thread on it.

It has such a high profile because the last few times it was brought up there was a lot of argument, and Eddie didn't want anyone to be able to say "We didn't know Nakama was being renamed!"
