    Okay.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    jesus h christ

    blackouts and everything

Then shouldn't we have started at a higher level or something? If I'm starting at a certain level, there's the expectation that we'll actually be progressing through all those levels evenly.

Thing is, two wild Pokemon, even at fairly high levels, don't offer a whole lot of exp. I'm not even sure if it's enough to bump you to level 10- and the EXP is potentially shared out among two Pokemon for half the team.

Most encounters in the game do offer you a fair amount of exp. The thing is, most battles in the game are meant to be against a lot of Pokemon at once- like, five or six at once. That's how it'll go on to progress out higher levels, but at lower levels like you're on now, swarms of Pokemon will be the death of you. But I don't want to stick you up against just one Pokemon all the time, especially considering a successful Hypnosis means that any single Pokemon is no longer a threat for very probably long enough for y'all to kill it/knock it out.

Keep in mind that this isn't exactly like D&D. You're not progressing through just twenty levels- there's a hundred levels to go through, for up to six Pokemon, per character.

^ Up to many, many Pokemon if we store them

    Also, I just remembered

How does Electabuzz evolve in PTA?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Yeah, but you gotta have them on you. Or so I rule, at least. And I imagine they'd get upset if you stored them all the time.

It evolves at my discretion :V

Does bob have more than 18 HP?

^ Wait, so I could technically be stuck with an Elekid and a Snorunt (I AM kind of dependant on you for a Dawn Stone) throughout the whole journey?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    Yes.

Then again, if I was bitchy enough to never let your Pokemon evolve, I also didn't have to let you catch the Elekid at all.

    True

It's just odd to think of how little control we have over how early some Pokemon evolve
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

Bob has at least 23.  That's not taking into account whatever he got when he leveled up.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

If you're really concerned about it, you can PM me.

The problem with Elekid is, there's no trade function in this TTRPG. And if there was, I can't imagine a reason you'd trade it away, then trade it back.

    Excellent

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

It was actually pretty convenient there. The Nidorino was at 11 health, and Littoria's Tackle does 2d6, both of which maxed out :c so 12 damage, plus 6 from Littoria's Attack, minus 7 from its' Defence :c

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    OK. Anyway.

I know Icarael will be gone at least tomorrow. I'm going to get this PDF issue sorted out, even if I have to resort to paying twenty bucks to having the local library print it out tomorrow.

Can everyone please list their Pokemon's moves and stats here tomorrow? And make sure to brush up on gameplay rules, including dual-wielding and the like, and move orders both for trainers and for Pokemon, and for how stats work, and for movement rules on terrain.

    Thankies c:

Well, since it requires holding an item, I was expecting something like levelling up while holding an Electrizer, perhaps with a minimum level requirement to replace the trade step

Edit: Well, I'll be back by four tomorrow (it's 11:53 PM right now), so if everybody is on then...

And I'll have my stuff posted

How much experience, by the way?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Um... Icalasari, that is in 16 hours. That is, that is at ten o'clock tomorrow morning- the time I asked everybody to be here at. So... There is not actually a problem?

And I keep like, quadposting. Oh well.

You get 1240 EXP points, to share among your Pokemon.

^ Ah. Well then, no problem :D

    And holy MEEP

Sure it means Snow and Dynamo each get 620 and fall behind some Pokemon, but holy crap...

Ok, checking it and most of the Pokemon should be level 12 now

Snow is level 10 now and Dynamo is level 9

:< Me and whoever else had two out are behind now

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

I think that's the standard for now. It levels out really soon, and the large amounts like this mean fuck-all.

At low levels, the EXP gained is proportionate to the EXP needed to level, but at like, Level 15, when you need > 600 EXP just to level, it's not that bad.

I forget, how do I calculate HP again?

I can't seem to find it in the rulebook :<

EDIT: Wait found it. I'm a dumbass

EDIT 2: 41 HP sounds wrong somehow

EDIT 3: That's because that is wrong

EDIT 4: No it isn't. I suck at reading apparently :<

    EDIT 5: It is wrong

Fuck it I'm using a calculator for simple math

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Littorio just gained six levels O.O

And he's 10 XP from leveling again...

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    Level + (HP*3)

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Littorio just gained six levels O.O

    whoah whoah whoah

I think my calculations were off just a tad

I did not think that would happen

Well, whatever. It means you won't have to level-grind, at least :v

Don't forget to post your new statspread here.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

I'll update his sheet, the one linked from that post I pointed you to.

And how do I calculate evasion bonus again?

It's not really saying much in the rule book

EDIT: INUH, it's more like five. 7 to 12 is five :D

...Says the guy who couldn't do simple math

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

And 7 to 13 is six.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Evasion bonuses are pretty simple. You gain +1 bonus to evasion on Physical attacks for every 5 points in Defence you have, +1 bonus to evasion on Special attacks for every 5 points in Special Defence you have, and +1 bonus to evasion on both Physical and Special attacks for every 10 points you have in Speed.

  • No rainbow star

So I fucked up somewhere in the math...

...Yeah, I shouldn't be doing math right now apparently

Cygan, what do I do about Dynamo? His HP went up, but he had 20 out of 23 HP prior to levelling up. How do I handle the remainder?

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Just keep his HP 3 below max.

  • No rainbow star

    Ok. That's simple :D

Now to figure out attacks they gained...

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

And I shall work on my basic maths skills and balance future encounters better :v

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

The odd thing is, we won that encounter pretty easily...but it was clearly too high-level given the XP yield...

I'm starting to wonder about balance in this system. Maybe larger numbers of mons closer to our level is the way to go?
