I don't really consider them tsunderes as they get pretty affectionate pretty fast, per se. Steins; Gate has a text book tsundere.
  • Yeah, I know... >.>

Anyway, as for the subject of the thread... yeah, "it gets better later on" really isn't a strong point in favor of a show, since it's still acknowledging that it at least sucks for a while, which is, well, bad.  That said, if a show actually does get better later on, then I tend to be able to forgive it.  Though a lot of the time I just end up watching half of a show before realizing it wasn't worth my time in the first place, and that kinda sucks.

And Gankutsuou... dull... I'm sorry I can't even fathom how you can think that.

Eh. Our tastes don't seem to match up all that well anyway, so no worries.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
well, we both liked S&W and K-on but yeah this does seem to be a question of tastes.

I'd probably recommend you not read the actual Count of Monte Cristo though as the show actually pares a lot down.

"well, we both liked S&W and K-on but yeah this does seem to be a question of tastes."

Yeah. Aside from them, there's really not much. Haruhi, Western comics, and Doctor Who don't interest me, and I explicitly hate Gurren Lagann, so . . .
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Why do you hate Gurren Lagann?
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Because he doesn't care for hyper-masculine power fantasies?
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
I don't care much for those either, I like it though.

Pretty much this; same reason Chagen's description of Exalted ruined it for me. Though it doesn't help that I didn't like any of the characters either. Scratch that, I wasn't particularly enthralled with any of the basic elements. But for what it's worth, the only thing that's elevated it to the level of contempt for me is how people always talks about how great it is (and how great Kamina supposedly is . . . if I actually hated anything in the show, it was him); by itself, I'm merely unimpressed with it.
  • I dislike TTGL cause of the hype, not gonna lie.
  • $80+ per session
Same reason I loathe everything Homestuck.
  • See, Homestuck doesn't have a real life fandom where I'm at.

TTGL does. Real Life hype tends to bother me more.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    Bad fandoms are everywhere.

Like in say Supernatural or Avatar.

Homestuck fans seem to be obnoxious about it as rule though.
  • *obligatory My Little Pony mention* (it would have been Touhou if you talked to me months ago)
  • I've had one person reccomend Supernatural to me, and he gave examples of the humor.

I've had a far greater number of people state "TTGL is the best thing ever. It is so amazing. It is so awesome."

    Etc. Etc.
  • Kamen Rider MADOKA
I'm not into Madoka, either. Because I liked it better when it was called Kamen Rider Ryuki.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^Pretty much reversed here for me so hooray myopia.

and no TTGL fan ever insisted she was Kyle Herbert's fiance.
  • $80+ per session
Homestuck has a IRL fandom here. I very much don't like it.
  • Kamen Rider MADOKA
Is it bad that I like Kamen Rider more because people I know IRL like it, then?
  • "Because I liked it better when it was called Kamen Rider Ryuki."

Ooh, illuminate us on the details.

Also, this is what I think of Madoka's fandom:

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^I know two people IRL who like Kamen Rider. They are treasures.

^^^Yeah. It all depends on personal exposure.

And that's why hype backlash is dumb.
  • But, see, here's the thing.

I don't like giant mecha shows.

I don't like testorone shows much either.

If I do watch it,  it will NEVER live up to the hype, and a show I might have thought as ok, I will hate, because every flaw will become achingly obvious.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Then don't watch it. You're not under any obligation to.

But blaming the series for the fandom is silly.

Yes. Because that is EXACTLY what I said.

Furthermore, there is a chance I could or could not like it-- I don't know, but that chance is ruined, because of how it was advertised. It just makes me more critical of it than ever.

I mean, I enjoyed Evangelion, and yeah, it wasn't that special, but since I went in not expecting much, due to the more balanced (if widespread) coverage it got, it was a pleasant watch.
  • Kamen Rider MADOKA
Malk makes the perfect point here. Don't hate the work for its fanatics (which is where the word fan in this context comes from!).

I am not blaming the individuals. I am blaming the hype. There is a difference. One is a person. The other is a phenomenon.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Hating TTGL for either is dumb. You're under no obligation to like it if it's not your thing, but the quality of a work does not rest on the buzz around it.
  • Technically speaking, if you're really baulked by the hype, but find yourself curious about a series, just speak to the right people.

like TTGL, do I think it's worth watching? Maybe, maybe not.
