Zetta Ryouiki is getting fixed

  • Nope.  Miku is the only one whose songs I like.  And by that I mean, like... 3 songs, but still.  More than any other Vocaloid.

Granted, I've only listened to like 5 Vocaloid songs ever.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
The metal version of Electric Angel is pretty awesome.

    Poot dispenser here
@Creators using the trope on the last page: To be fair, given how fanworks and such apparently tend to proliferate in Japan, there's bound to be a fanartist or several making intentional use of it.
  • Yeah, and I knew you'd post that video after I said that. :p

Actually, that song's good too I guess.

Still, of the very few Vocaloid songs I've heard and liked, most are Miku songs.

Though that's probably just because most Vocaloid songs in general are Miku songs.

  • The reason Miku is so popular is most likely because she was the first of the Vocaloid 2 programs. With the exception of Luka, the newer the Vocaloid 2 character, the more obscure they tend to be.

And also a meme involving her singing the Leekspin song.  Which was then followed by her singing everything from Bach fugues to the latest in J-pop.

    > And then it would further have to be proven that they have a complicated
and in-depth grading system applied to socks, and that there's an
actual value to mentioning any of this shit.

It's a fanservice trope and an audience reaction trope.

That said, since it's largely an audience reaction trope, it should not have any examples at all, EXCEPT for those in which the creator specifically invoked this for fanservice purposes.

So yeah, the way I see it, the alleged iCarly example is out, and so is Miku Hatsune.  (Unless the latter was designed specifically with this in mind.  Sources, please.)

And is this trope called "zettai" or "zetta"?  I can go fix the title of this thread.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
    Hakata-san is the best Vocaloid

  • You can change. You can.
    Oh great, Vocaloid derail.
  • There are also some works with Zettai Ryouiki in the title, as far as I can remember.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
And that No More Heroes song
  • You can change. You can.
I still think the trope page could really use a rewrite.

I guess I don't understand the "Oh, we have to have a page on it because it's Japanese!" quip, since we have an entire index full of Fanservice tropes that originate from various cultures.

^ It got one, albeit not the one that was initially proposed... but, hey, compromise.

    ...
A compromise that expanded the grading system that was the original sticking point, mind you.

And nobody uses the grading system, outside of a handful of spergy otaku blogs, and TV Tropes itself.

It did? I could have sworn the description originally went into detail about Grades S through E, and originally had a picture that incorporated all of them. Now it only has two sentences about grades, one of  them being "Only Grade A and B qualify."

The below-knee examples were going to be removed anyways, as determined by an earlier crowner. And rewrite #3, which got the highest score in the second crowner, did in fact go into more detail about the grading system.

Oh, I see what happened- all the info was relocated to the Analysis page. It still has that @!$#! page image, though...
  • I apologize if I'm being dense, but I don't see what you mean.

    Original:

As if that wasn't enough, some even categorize it into five "Grades", from RankInflation E to A. Only the top two (A and B) are considered true Zettai Ryouiki and they are only usable by females. Some SeriousBusiness researchers additionally introduce RankInflation Grade S, the highest one which consists of Grade A plus further requirements to {{Tsundere}} personality and GirlishPigtails hairstyle. See the linked ''http://animedesho.animeblogger.net/?p=2585 Anime Deshou Deshou'' article for details and http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zettai_ryouiki_99.jpg illustrations.

    Rewrite #3:

Since a Zettai Ryouiki is defined by the length of the stockings, some
people have categorize it into grades depending on the size of the
    socks. This
ranking system goes from Grade E to Grade A* . However, only Grades A and B are considered true Zettai Ryouiki. See the Analysis page for more details.

  • Ah, sorry, I thought you were referring to the trope description itself. Which did still get significantly shortened from its original state, through compromise.

The "chuck all the extra stuff that doesn't belong on the main page to Analysis" is pretty common in TRS decisions.

  • Glaives are better.

You know, if it weren't for all the autism and weeabooism demonstrated by the article, I'd compare it to the Pretty in Mink and Vapor Wear articles.

@Hatter: Don't tell me that those pages have people lusting over adolescents, too...

Oh wow, they actually got rid of those examples. Finally.
  • Glaives are better.
No. That's the main difference. Last time I saw it, Pretty in Mink just described it as being a fanservice trope, listed a few examples and then got the fuck out. It didn't do creepily detailed analysis.
  • edited 2011-08-06 15:04:18
From a quick glance of the examples for Vapor Wear, it looks like the answer depends on whether or not you're referring to actual adolescents or fictional adolescents. If the latter, then yes.
  • Glaives are better.
Well I haven't really been on the wiki since I got banned last winter, so I wouldn't know what it's up to right now.

This sounds like what ZR should be like.  And by "examples" I mean "examples where this trope is actually invoked, and not just a fan reaction, with few exceptions".
  • I don't get why the wiki is so concerned about image it doesn't make
much sense. who the fuck cares what the "face of troper tales" or trope
titles or descritpions make the rest of the internet think of us?
  • Glaives are better.
I know it's hard to ignore something you find arousing. I like ZR as much as the next guy. But when I get a boner over something, I hide it behind my Batman trapper keeper like a normal person. I don't go jizzing all over the page.
