INUH's impressions on Pokemon (Black and Ruby)

edited 2011-08-02 21:25:34 in Liveblogging
OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Since the thing I was doing with describing my impressions of Pokemon Black turned into a liveblog by accident, I thought I'd give it its own thread in the Liveblogging category. Impressions of Black so far (i.e. not having finished the first conversation): these games keep getting more and more 3d. I wonder if gen 6 or 7 will just outright be 3d. Impression 2: YES. The battle system is more streamlined now. FINALLY. Impression 3: Heh, the only thing in your room that isn't damaged is the Wii. Gotta love Nintendium. Impression 4: This game is making me do an unintentional liveblog. Interesting.. Impression 5: GIMME THE DAMN RUNNING SHOES ALREADY. Seriously, they really just need to give you the ability to run to start with. Impression 6: As always, I take forever to name my Pokemon. Introducing Opheo the Snivy. Impression 7: The new Pokedex design is pretty cool. Impression 8: Caught a Lillipup. Named him Yorick. Impression 9: Caught a Patrat. Named her Cyna. Impression 10: They really redid the Pokemon Center this time. Or maybe it's just the camera angle that makes me think that. Impression 11: The store is in the Pokemon center? Awesome. Impression 12: Ghetsis would seem pretty nice in his first scene if it weren't for the ominous music, weird outfit and stuff. Impression 13: N's intro did a pretty good job of catching my attention. Impression 14: I should've mentioned this earlier, but I'm kinda disappointed they didn't keep the whole "your Pokemon follows you around" thing Heartgold and Soulsilver had. Impression 15: Fuck yeah, running shoes. This generation has the most useful mom so far. Impression 16: No autorun? That's another feature removed that HG/SS had... Impression 17: The strength boulders look like they're actually hard to move for once. Impression 18:Whoa, XP distribution if multiple Pokemon fight changed. Impression 19:They changed the annoying beeping into a music change. YES. Impression 20: As expected, the feature where criticals only happen when I'm trying to capture something has not been removed. Impression 21:Well, I found another Purrloin...and it happened again. Fortunately, I was deliberately using an ineffective move, so it had 1 HP left. Introducing Priona the Purrloin. Impression 22:Ew, Unburden's a really crappy ability. Impression 23:I like the little notification you get when Pickup activates during a battle. Also, the fact that you can use the item during the battle. Almost makes me want to not evolve my Lillipup. Almost. Impression 24:So, the first gym is...a restaurant that's obsessed with teaching people about type effectiveness? Um, okay... Impression 25:Some chick just gave me a Panpour for no reason. Okay. I named him Ahu. Impression 26:The Gym Leader always uses the type effective against you. That's kinda cool. Glad I got the Panpour. Impression 27:His level 12 non-fire Pokemon was harder than his level 14 fire Pokemon... Impression 28: Team Plasma? Do Pokemon villains just pick these out at random or what? Impression 29: So they're kicking a Pokemon because they want to help Pokemon? LOGIC! Impression 30:Ghetsis is pretty creepy when pissed. Impression 31:Finally saw rustling grass. Caught Lepo the Audino. Impression 32: Caught a Munna. Named him Baku. Impression 33: I has wi-fi. Nice. Impression 34: The day care sure showed up early this time around. Impression 35:The second set of Team Plasma grunts I ran into are significantly less asinine than the first. Impression 36:Oh, hey, sleeping Pokemon actually close their eyes when they fall asleep. Impression 37:Holy crap, you guys weren't kidding about Audino. Impression 39:Caught Chris the Pidove. Impression 40:And a Blitzle just proved that the "try to catch it and you'll crit" rule still holds. Impression 41:And the one after that, too... Impression 42:And the third one I encountered demonstrated that those attacks didn't need to crit to OHKO. Impression 43:Actually caught a Blitzle. Named her Bronta. Impression 44:I just had my Pidove fight an Audino. It levelled five times, taking it directly from being my weakest Pokemon to being my second strongest. Impression 45:There are ledges that let you jump North now. Always bugged me that there weren't any before. Impression 46:Caught Gelba the Roggenrola. Impression 47:Caught Talp the Drilbur. Impression 48:Bulbapedia's claims that Woobat has a 50% encounter rate in Wellspring Cave are bullshit. Impression 49: Finally caught a Woobat. Named her Alba, from the scientific name of one of the cutest animals on the planet. Impression 50:The game just told me it'd be good to have a Fighting type. Is that even possible at this point? I didn't think I'd missed anything obtainable up to here... Impression 51:Caught Tympole, named her Serena. Impression 52:Just because the odds of your Pokemon hurting itself in confusion are 50/50, that doesn't mean it won't do so five times in a row. Impression 53:Yorick evolved into Herdier! Yay! Impression 54:Holy fuck, the new evolution screen is epic. Impression 55:Caught a Timburr. Named him Magog. Impression 56: Blitzle's defense is so low I can hardly use it. Irritating. Impression 57: Caught a Sawk. Named him Aoni. Impression 58: Demolished N. That was really, really easy. Impression 59:Stupid gym leaders and their stupid super potions. Impression 60:Hell yeah, Opheo evolved into Servine. Impression 61:Screw it, I'll find Throh later. Going to challenge the gym again. Impression 62:Just realized the Pokemon Center nurses are back to saying "We hope to see you again." Fuck you; I hope your Pokemon all get injured too. Impression 63: Timburr's animation does not work in slow-mo at all. Impression 64:Heh, Lenora's Herdier KOs itself if you stall. Impression 65:That grinding really payed off. Impression 66:Caught a Cottonee. Named her Tara. Impression 67:I haven't the slightest clue why I'm still calling these "Impressions" when they're basically a twittery liveblog. Impression 68:Caught a Venipede. Named him Scolo. Impression 69:Heh, 69. Impression 70:Chris evolved into Tranquill. Awesome. Impression 71:Caught a Sewaddle, named her Chloe. Impression 72:Caught another Cottonee. Didn't name him, as I caught him for trading purposes. Impression 73:So...the skull was completely useless. Did they just grab it because it looked cool or something? Impression 74:Skyarrow Bridge...wow. I don't know what sort of crazy mind it took to decide that Pokemon really needed scenery porn, but whoever thought of it is awesome. Impression 75:So...I know that there's a lot of stuff on Unova that isn't on its counterpart of Manhattan Island, but this first bit on the island corresponds to the real world pretty nicely. Impression 76:Some guy gave me a water stone. Thanks, some guy! Impression 77:OH GOD CAMERA SCREW. It was handling 3D so well up until there! Impression 78:Got the Eviolite. Looks pretty awesome. Impression 79:I get to the gym, and the leader immediately leaves it. Really? Impression 80:Team Plasma are being assholes again. Seriously? They were off to such a good start with that first speech (ominous music aside), and now they're basically pickpockets/kidnappers. Impression 81:"The world that I -- I mean, Team Plasma--desires." So...basically, Cyrus. N had better be more interesting than Ghetsis. Impression 82:Walking through walls...Unova gyms are weird. Impression 83:Burgh was pathetically easy. Impression 84:Caught a Darumaka. Named him Darunia because I'm a Zelda fanboy. Impression 85:Caught a Sandile. Named him Gustave. Impression 86:Caught a Scraggy. Named him Agamin. Impression 87:Caught a Sigiliph. Named him Nazca. Impression 88:Caught a Dwebble. Named him Pagu. Impression 89:I just noticed that they finally did away with capitalizing all Pokemon names. Impression 90:Caught a Maractus. Named her Opa. Impression 91:Caught a Yamask. Named him Menes. Impression 92:Just realized I missed the Exp. Share. Backtracking time! Impression 93:Was expecting to have to battle the fossil guy, so I hit A at an inopportune moment and got the Cover Fossil whether I want it or not. Fortunately, I did want it. Impression 94:Backtracked; got the Exp. Share. This should be useful. Impression 95:I has Ultra Balls! Professor Juniper is generous. Impression 96:"We are taking Pokemon away from people." Such astounding dialogue. Impression 97:I has a bike! :D Impression 98:Battle subway. Battle...subway. How the hell is that supposed to get insurance? Impression 99:Some guy gave me Strength. And the last boulder I saw was, what, on route 2? Yeah, I don't really wanna backtrack that far. Impression 100:Did...did N just ask me out?

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Impression 101:N has revealed that he's the king of Team Plasma. Um...given that the little opening video outright showed us this, how was that supposed to be a reveal?

Impression 102:Annnd...now he's giving me advice on how to stop his plans for some reason. Is this some kind of teenage rebellion thing he's doing?

Impression 103:Bianca is dragging me to the musical thing. This is either going to be awesome or horrible.

Impression 104:Oh, god. The prop case is pink and has a heart on it. Abort! Abort!

Impression 105:This is awesome...why is this awesome? This has no right to be awesome!

Impression 106: Remember, kids, random supermodels give better advice than your parents do!

Anyway, I'll get back to playing today, so this'll be updated.
  • No rainbow star
If you want an Oshawott, I'm not too far from being able to breed my female Dewott (just need to finish training my team in black, beat the gym leader, and fight through the desert)

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Probably at some point. Not right this instant, though.

Impression 107: Apparently, the AI is now smart enough to use Protect if you're using a telegraphed move. (i.e. dig, fly, etc.)

Impression 108: Some guy just gave me an electric guitar. Awesome.

Impression 109: Caught a Gothita. Named her Sabrina.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Holler when you want those White exclusives.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    I will.

For the moment, though, just tell me what you want in exchange for Solosis, Rufflet and Zorua.

Impression 110:Caught a Minccino, not to be confused with Missingno. Named him Andy.
  • Everyone REALLY likes the musicals. Not sure why.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I don't get why I like it either.

Impression 111:Caught a Trubbish. Named him Hugh.
  • I think I named mine Huggykins...
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
I don't like the musicals, but then again I don't like anything that doesn't involve RIP AND TEARING!

@INUH: Gothita for Solosis, Vullaby for Rufflet, and anything for Zorua.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Right. Do you name your Pokemon/do you have name preferences or anything?
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Nah, name them whatever. I only name Pokemon I use, and if I was going to use any of them I'd breed them.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Cool.

Impression 112:Magog evolved into Gurdurr. Awesome.

Impression 113:A roller coaster. What the hell, Unova gyms?

Impression 114:Flying/Electric. Flying/Electric. FLYING/ELECTRIC. Well, time to go rebuild my entire team.

Impression 115:Caught an Emolga. Named him evil incarnate Momo.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
I assume you want that Gurdurr to evolved too, right?

Also what do you want the Solosis, Rufflet, and Zorua to be named?

  • edited 2011-07-25 17:39:45
    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yeah, I guess for that you can just trade me something arbitrary then we can swap them back.

I won't have a Vullaby for the Rufflet for awhile, but the Solosis, if male, could be called Cleo and the Zorua, also if male, could be called Diego.

Impression 116:Leveled up Talp the Drilbur until he learned Rock Slide. Given that that's level 29, that should make this gym doable.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Pro-tip: Hold off evolving Drillbur until lv.33, it learns Earthquake then.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Ooh, good to know.

Impression 117:That...was really easy. I guess Drilbur with rock slide was really the way to go.

Impression 118:Incidentally, the "putting the badge in the case" animation is pretty cool.

    Alright, my FC is 4684 9588 9179. What's yours?

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
How I checked code? And for that matter, how I traded online?

Impression 119:Met the champion. He seems pretty cool.

    Impression 120:More scenery porn. Cool.

Impression 121:Caught a Ducklett. Named her Leda.

Impression 122:Team Plasma again. I'm shocked and amazed.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
You need to have a Pal Pad. If you don't have one, go talk to any of the ladies on the second floor of the Pokemon Center.
  • edited 2011-07-25 20:36:35
    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Right. Got my FC. It's 1077 2613 6517.

I've got you a Gothita for the Solosis and a Purrloin for the Zorua, since you said you didn't care what you got for that.

So how do we actually trade?

Impression 123:Did the in-game trade of Cottonee for Petlil. Her name is Lillil.

Impression 124:Caught Pansage. Named him Colo.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
You talk to the lady in the middle and then she transports you to the Wi-Fi union room.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Gotcha. I can trade whenever you're ready, then.

Impression 125: Caught Pansear. Named him Bower.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
You want to trade-evolve your Gurdurr right?

Also I gave you the wrong code, my real FC is: 4684 9588 9178
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Yep.

So...how do I register you in the Pal Pad? Do I have to know your in-game name or what?
  • edited 2011-07-25 21:30:25
Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Just go to the second option in the Pal Pad, type in a name doesn't matter what, and enter my FC.

    I'm in the Union Room.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Okay, it's saying "the friend code is wrong."

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Did you enter the second code? The first one was a mistake.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    ...

    That would explain a lot.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    Sorry. :(
