  • A lot of the site's problems could be solved if we mandated sources for everything.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Then we would have citation snipers everywhere, which would cause a different problem.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yeah, I feel like that would cause just as many problems as it fixed, only we wouldn't be used to dealing with them.
  • That's a quick way to discourage editing.
  • edited 2011-04-16 18:27:13
It would also mean that the people who edit pages are more likely to actually know what they're talking about.

    Well... or just be vandals.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Needing a citation for nearly every example for a work page would be hellishly excessive though...

Because you never know what you might see.
@Turtle: Because that level of negativity is a deviation from TV Tropes' purpose in spirit as well as scope, and the people who keep the site running and funded are simply not interested in hosting that.

Apart from anything else, it encourages edit wars and other such nonsense which is a pain in the ass to moderate.
  • ^^ Would it really though? Would it honestly be too difficult to say, do something like this;

TropeName: In episode 2.46: The Death of Captain Rage; Description.
  • Master Guardian of the Passive Voice
@Khwarmizmi: Ugghh, frankly, I say that's enough of both of us making the other one feel like jerks! Scoping out a different thread now... :-)

Umm, yes, it's too difficult. Not all of us know series we watch by episode (specially since "watch" can mean "saw a few episodes of"), or can always remember in which episode what we're describing happened. Having to look these up, combined with There Is No Such Thing As Notability (such that there's a chance there's no easily availible episode/volume/whatever guide on the 'net) means editing is discouraged.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
This would also mean many old series that are not available on Youtube would be unable to cite (such as Crystal Cove) and most of the Porn tropes.
  • I was originally going to say that less editing isn't necessarily a bad thing, but then I remembered that if we required citations, then the only things that would ever get examples would be people who review stuff on the internet.  And that's terrible.
  • I like turtles.
"We will be changing the name of It Just Bugs Me to Headscratchers, to make it clear the namespace is not for complaints."

    Charming.

    -_-;
  • Quick, someone add IJBM to Unperson! :P
  • What

So Even though it will be renamed to Headscratchers...they are keeping the Icon?

  • I like turtles.
I wish they'd stop insulting people's intelligence and cut the namespace altogether, because we already have Fridge Logic for just "this doesn't make sense."
  • edited 2011-04-20 18:01:58
Good thing for the most part I stopped caring about the wiki. It's good for dignity.

^ I thought that was for Fridge Brilliance.
  • ok... What the hell? Seriously what is Fast Eddie doing with all this?we may as well turn the whole thing in to Sugar Wiki!
  • I can't fault the logic of Turtle. IJBM pretty much was for complaints. Hence the name. Now the new title has made it redundant. If he didn't want complaints, he should have cut it altogether.
  • This is a prime example of what I'm talking about when I say that TV Tropes policies and rushed and inconsistent. Officially, the IJBM namespace is for Fridge Logic, but then they came up with the Fridge space.

Because you never know what you might see.
The It Just Bugs Me namespace was never intended for general complaints.  It was for posting things from works of fiction that you found confusing or nonsensical.  It predates Fridge Logic as a namespace.
  • at this point the Wiki seems to be enforcing The Complainer Is Always Wrong.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Am I the only one who doesn't find this to be a problem? It's only a rename and a measure to delete the dumb "why does anyone even like this!?" "And this is why this series is not as good as it should be." bullshit.
  • They Changed It Now It Sucks is in effect, my dear.
  • It's kind of a principle thing it's always been IJBM and it should always be IJBM changing itnow just seems completely off base.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Well the Complainer IS always wrong because they don't run the site, or even edit the wiki judging from this thread.
  • I like turtles.
That would mean that the complainer is always powerless to stop crap from happening, but it doesn't make them wrong.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
It doesn't make them right either.
  • You aren't trying, right?
