    You can change. You can.
When does disliking something become honest complaints and turn into trolling?

    ...

Look, I don't have a problem with the idea behind such a page. My problem is how such gems as

If you get anything out of a philosophy degree, it's a finely-honed bullshit detector. Mine goes off every time I read about how Hideaki Anno was sad and depressed because he was misunderstood. When he says "I didn't mean anything by the western religious symbolism, I just thought it was cool, " I read "I didn't give a shit about raping other people's religions." When he says "I didn't make things clear because I wanted to make a story you had to think about, " I hear "I didn't give a shit about plotholes because the fanboys will do it for me." When he says he wanted to make Rei a deconstruction, I get that he's an overrated imbecile who couldn't do a damn thing right except for all the stuff he was trying to do wrong. Dude, accept it... you totally failed. With all that said though, this Unknown Troper would totally do Rei.

That combines all of the worst aspects of this wiki into one convenient package. Probably dubious bragging about something (in this case, a degree)? Complete misunderstanding of symbolism and homage? Total and complete Critical Research Failure (unless it's just a typo)? Unneeded statement of Perverse Sexual Lust for an underage (maybe, I haven't watched Evangelion in a while)? Passes with flying colors!

Because you never know what you might see.
    Rei is 14 years old.

Is it wrong that that's the only part of that quote that actually bothered me?

And it doesn't need to exist either. There are more productive things to host other than pieces of shit like that.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^Having a reputation as a site that hosts that kind of crap is not a good thing.

    I like turtles.
If people can be scared off by such stupid nonsense then maybe we don't want them there.

^^It's a wiki about fiction.  Productivity or lack thereof is irrelevant.

Did you know gushing doesn't hurt people either? nor arguments, nor debates, nor shitposting, nor petitions, nor polls? Using the "It doesn't hurt anyone argument has as nearly no meaning on here since neither does most of anything else posted here."

If such people are posting tedious, excessive stories on why they dislike something and devoting more time to venting their hatred on something that we most likely won't feel the same for, we don't want them here either.

Also, sorry turtle if I seem very opposed to you personally. I am not. You are perfectly fine and I like building with you on the Minecraft server, it's just my stance on blatant hatred bullshit is very firm since I put up with enough of it on other wikis.
  • Having a reputation as a site that hosts that kind of crap is not a good thing.
And having a reputation as a site that hosts stuff like Troper Tales is?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Troper Tales isn't as bad as that, especially not after all the stuff that got cut.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I didn't say anything about Troper Tales, but I guess the same thing applies to that too since it's personal anecdotes. Generally though it's free to delete.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My arrow wasn't pointed at your post.
  • Troper Tales isn't as bad as that, especially not after all the stuff that got cut.
It's still pretty damn bad. And more importantly, there's actual evidence that it's negatively affecting our reputation (however small the effect is), as opposed to the complaining pages.

Not saying that they should've stayed, but "reputation" is certainly not a reason to remove them.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    -shrug- Oh well.
  • You can change. You can.
I'm all for deleting TT. But does it matter to the discussion at hand?
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
The topic is "TV Tropes is forcing us to think everything is perfectly fine when it's not".

Other than not allowing IJBM threads to sprout up on the forum, or for complaining pages to be hosted, I see no problem. In my personal opinion I enjoy reading things I like than personal anecdotes why a show sucked or wasn't so great when that stuff would be better off on a wiki devoted to it, or in a review, where it's perfectly fine to explain in great detail why a certain show poisoned your blood with melancholy and raped your childhood with a knife.
  •  But does it matter to the discussion at hand?

It matters when an argument to delete it is also an argument to delete complaining pages. Basically, if "it's damaging our reputation" is a valid argument for deleting CASYDL, it would also be one for deleting TT, given that there's a more noticeable effect on our reputation from the latter than the former.

As it stands, I don't think it's a valid argument for either, since it's really hard to measure their impact, and it's probably overstated. I'd like to see Troper Tales deleted for other reasons, but that's for another topic.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Troper Tales has some impact on what this website does. I certainly wouldn't mind deleting them, but I couldn't care either way.

And Juan, you plagiarized me. :P
  • You can change. You can.
You said it better than me. :P

@Noimporta: My understanding was not that we were deleting CASYDL not because it was hurting out reputation at large, but because allowing any amount of complaining will cause a snowball effect in which determined hatedoms insinuate themselves into the main articles. (Not that I necessarily agree with that reasoning.)

Edit: I have no personal stake in keeping Troper Tales around, as the
most interaction I have with them is having to split up the massive
pages due to the Big Page Lock project. I just haven't seen any evidence
to support the need to delete every single one of them en masse, as
opposed to simply deleting individual problem pages as they're
    identified.
  • I know, that's why I said I was not opposed to it.
