Yeah. I think it was the halfway point exactly, actually. I figured something was fishy when I saw that part, though, considering that up to that point I hadn't seen anyone damaged so badly by his attacks, though that could just be because he hadn't done much fighting, I'm already having trouble remembering.
Yeah, I remembered it being right at the end, but now that I think about it I was actually thinking of the the previous episode's ominous ending involving Mustang.
I am interested in Lupin III. Which of all (the fucking several) series should I try out first? (already watched Castle of Cagliostro. It is awesome.)
Drat, picked the right one to start with at least. I'd just go with the original series next.
There are a whole bunch of movies and series. The newest is good but is radically different from popular conceptions of Lupin. I recommend just watching the classic series Miyazaki worked on and moving from there.
Hyouka has a new ED, my love for it has now skyrocketed.
Hyouka...it's so...-epileptic fit of rage-
Hyouka is like Haruhi except more than one of the characters is actually treated like a character, and it has better animation. So... yeah.
Tell me about the complex plot full of mathematical, science fiction references, please.
Didn't Slayers grow in popularity because it was one of the few 90's series to not receive a lot of the changes that other series got when they aired on say, Fox Kids or something?
Considering the absolutely ridiculous amount of Slayers material that has been published and is still being published, it's absurdly popular in Japan too and so I don't know if that reasoning applies so much...
I remember when I heard the premise of Haruhi...
...and then Kyon and Nagato took over the show/books and overshadowed all the actually interesting stuff.
Honestly, if you're going to make a Rei-clone a main character, why isn't she a bit more... alive? And why is Kyon so obsessed with her anyways?
Did I miss something?
Kyon is the only cool character in Haruhi. >
but yeah, I agree with the Nagato thing.
Kyon is great. It's his ridiculous love for Nagato that creeps me out. I mean, the last parts of Disappearance are basically FEEL SORRY FOR YUKI NOW (Y'know, cause she hijacked Haruhi's powers and created an antibody virus in the shape of a girl who murdered Kyon that just murders Kyon again). I mean, they're in the snow and he's pledging his allegiance to her while she just stands there and feels nothing at all!
Yuki is ungodly popular for some reason, the author was probably just cashing in on that.
But yeah, Kyon was the only good thing about that series.
Kyon is the only part I recall liking from what I've read and seen, as well. Maybe Mikuru because I'm a sucker for moe characters, but I don't know of any other reason why I should try the series again. And I'd have to wait a bit anyway because I'm already 22 episodes into FMA, which is more than I've watched of a series for a long time.
^^ Because reiclone?
What about Haruhi and Itsuki? They were definitely the best part of Disappearance for me. I mean, Mikuru is okay but those too are awesome.
^Why is Rei so popular anyways?
That's because Kyon is the only character in Haruhi. Haruhi herself might count too, but Itsuki, Mikuru, and Yuki all exist just to provide exposition and to solve Kyon's problems for him. None of them ever even have any interactions with any character except Kyon, let alone any actual character development. Though, I still actually like the show a lot, enough that I consider it one of my favorite anime. I dunno.
Disappearance is a good movie but as far as being part of the series I don't even like it as much as the 2009 episodes of the TV series (read: I'd rather watch Endless Eight).
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm not sure why people feel such an affinity with Rei.
but you know what, we shouldn't blame Rei, or Evangelion, or Anno
You know who we should blame? The government.
Probably because submissive-seeming and mysterious and vaguely attractive female character.
^ Clearly, the government created Rei, proving Ronald Reagan's point that government is the problem.
I do not understand the thought process of anyone who finds Rei attractive.
Mikuru and that Nyoron girl?
Disappearance is good for the weird Itsuki in love with Haruhi subplot and Haruhi acting as insane as usual, but everything else gets really horrible really fast...
Clearly, Asuka is best Evangelion girl. But anyway Rei is popular because her personality+situation makes people feel like they want to take care of her thus endearment so Rei = MOE MOE KYUN
If I may go into internet armchair psychology, I think it has something to do with wanting someone as submissive as possible. Either that, or the appeal of bringing someone out of their shell.
People think that Gorbachev and Reagan defused the cold war.
actually, Reagan, with the help of Japanese spies, created the secret weapon known as Moe Emotionless Robot Girl Person Clone and threatened to drop them all over Russia if they did not concede that Reagan had the bigger penis.
and thus, the cold war was over.
I don't get people who want submissive women, either.
Fourteenwings, (about Haruhi having a complex plot full of mathematical, science fiction references)
Did I miss something?
Maybe, but I think the references are really much more common in the books than in the show. One example I remember is the use of something like Euler's polyhedron formula in Snow Mountain Syndrome and a meaningful mention of The Bluebird of Happiness in Melancholy. As for a complex plot, I guess it might actually seem more convoluted than complex, depending on your opinion on time travel and such.
I figure they just want them to be submissive during sex but that's a road we better not walk on because really.
The Haruhi novels are either terribly written or terribly translated, can't really tell the difference when it comes to something translated from another language, but either way, they're a mess.
I understand what you're saying. What I'm saying is "lol, people".
