First six in chronological order or broadcast order?
Chronological order is the only order, unfortunately. As much as 2006 broadcast order is infinitely better than watching it chronologically, then you miss out on half the series (granted, much of what you miss out on is Endless Eight, but still).
Of course, I guess that doesn't mean GMH isn't watching it in 2006 order anyway, but if he is he probably shouldn't be.
The first one was Kyon introducing himself and Haruhi. The second one was them founding the club and introduced Yuki. The third one profiled Mikuru. The fourth one had a...
...wait a minute, did I mistakenly miss episode 4? That would explain the disappearing Ryoko...
Do me a favor, will ya? Don't interrupt me. I'm being immersed by my own mistakes.
SUMMER HERE WE COME
Akame ga Kill - A seinen manga adaptation about a boy pulled into a world involving a family of assassins. Promises gore and a whole lot of unpleasantness.
Aldnoah.ZERO - Urobuchi's latest project. Confirmed to be mecha Madoka since Kalafina are also involved. Involves a world where an alternate history has made Mars conquests possible and an ordinary kid is drawn into the world of mecha. Will probably be great.
Ao Haru Ride - A shoujo manga adaptation and one of the two shoujo manga adaptations this cour about a misunderstanding causing a guy not to understand the protagonist's love confession. After that entire mess, the girl reinvents herself and is then surprised to meet the guy she confessed to again.
Bakumatsu Rock - Shinsengumi are rock idols whose power is so strong it rips away their shirts, there might also be a plot. But really it's just about deciding whether you're a Rock or HEAVEN person. Based on the PSP Otome Rhythm game.
Barakamon - A manga adaptation about a guy being punished for punching a famous calligrapher. He's sent off to an island where he meets lots of people and things happen.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon : Crystal - A manga adaptation that needs no real introduction. 26 episodes airing over four cours, adapting the Crystal arc of the manga and an artstyle that all lovers of the manga will appreciate.
DRAMAtical Murder - The second ever Nitro+CHiRAL BL VN adaptation, this time as by studio NAZ. It centers around Aoba who avoids the game Rhyme but is then pulled into it. Like Togainu no Chi, all the parts with guys confessing to each other and stuff will probably be edited out (along with all the more... racy things obviously).
Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA 2wei! - Sequel to the spinoff of Fate/everything that aired last summer. Continuing the adventures of an alternate universe Illya and now her evil twin.
Free! Eternal Summer - Sequel to the wildly successful KyoAni in-house work (and really, most successful KyoAni in-house work). There will be swimming and stuff.
Fuutsu no Joshikousei ga [LocoDol] Yatte Mita. - A manga adaptation about two girls and their two friends who become the towns local idols. Instead of getting great music and a fun life, they're gifted with the wonderful world of appearing on low budget local TV shows and local, badly organized events.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - The second shoujo manga adaptation about a misunderstood confession, though this time the confesee assumes the confessor is confessing to a love of his manga. I'm betting this might be the love come of the year.
Glasslip - P.A.Works' latest original work about a girl who wants to become a glass artisan and the summer she spends with her friends. There will be ChouCho.
Hanamonogatari - The latest bit of the Monogatari series, will focus on Araragi out of school and Suruga being awesome.
Hanayamata - A manga adaptation about a girl lead into the world of yosakoi dance by a foreign "fairy".
Jinsei - A light novel adaptation about a school club where they are adorable and stuff while writing an advice column.
Kuroshitsuji : Book of Circus - A return to the original Kuroshitsuji timeline that adapts the manga's circus arc, a fan favoraite.
LOVE STAGE!! - A BL manga adaptation in which an otaku boy falls in love with an actor on the set of his sister's drama when he has to take over her role. Stars two thirds of Trignal, with the last third being a supporting character and DAIGO is in it too.
Majimoji Rurumo - A perverted boy and a witch go on adventures.
Minarai Diva - Stars two aspiring "divas" who wish to become famous.
Momo Kyun Sword - Momotarou is a girl in a fanservice show.
Nobunaga Concerto - A boy is whisked to the past where he must take on the role of Nobunaga.
Persona 4 The Golden Animation - A re-imagining of Persona 4 the Animation, with the bits from Golden added in. A-1 will be at the helm this time.
PriPara - Laala is a girl considered to be too young to enter the world of PriPara idols, but she isn't ready to take no for an answer so makes a premature debut. Successor to TakaraTomy's other Prism Stone based idol work Pretty Rhythm, PriPara promises even more insanely insane idol adventures and performances as they're no longer limited by ice skates.
Psycho-Pass New Edit Version - Self-explanatory. There may be new footage.
RAIL WARS! - A light novel adaptation about a world where the protagonist tries to protect Japan's railways from privatization.
Re:␣Hamatora - The second half of the original anime with a new studio.
Rokujyouma no Shinryakusha!? - A light novel adaptation where a poor guy moves into an apartment with a host of interesting and mysterious girls.
Sabagebu! - Girls are in a survival games club and are adorable.
Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance - The second to last of MF Bunko J's bulk announcement of LN adaptations. In this one the first ever male spirit user enters an all girls academy. Harada Hitomi provides the OP.
Sengoku Basara Judge End - Third season of the wildly popular game series adaptation. Will adapt the third game in the series, Sengoku Basara : Samurai Heroes.
Shirogane no Ishi : Argevollen - The first Xebec original mecha anime in a while. Will have a KOTOKO OP and Misawa Sachika ED.
Shounen Hollywood : Holly Stage for 49 - A follow up to a successful novel about male idols studying at an idol academy. Will have both Kakihara Tetsuya and Aoi Shouta so AOTYAY.
Space☆Dandy 2 - The second half of BONES' original throwback comedy anime.
Sword Art Online II - It's baaaaaack. Second season of the popular light novel adaptation will begin with adapting the Gun Gale Online arc, featuring Sawashiro Miyuki. Aoi Eir will be gracing us with the OP and Haruna Luna will also be doing the ED. Aoi Eir's song even starts with an I (INNOCENCE and IGNITE) so exactly as it was two years ago this exact season.
Tokyo ESP - A girl discovers a whole new, trippy world of people with psychic powers.
Tokyo Ghoul - A young boy is forced to fight against an invading species that's infiltrating and "conquering" humanity. There will be gore.
Zankyou no Terror - Two boys are commit an act of terror to wake Japan up, then continue their game of terror. Hopefully it will be less sociopathic than it sounds.
So I'll be watching:
And continuing:
Akame ga Kill
Aldnoah.ZERO
Prism Illya
Glasslip
Flowerstory
Sailor Moon
Jinsei
Hanayamata
Rail Wars
Space Dandy 2
SAO 2 (uuuuurgh)
Tokyo ESP
Tokyo Ghoul
Zankyou no Terror
I am trying to catch up with M3. It is almost physically painful.
How did Sato Junichi direct this?
He also directed (and is the original creator of, even) the impossibly horrible Zetsumetsu Kigu Shoujo: Amazing Twins. He is having a very bad year, evidently.
Oh wow I totally forgot that existed after the first episode.
Maybe he should have called it quits after Tamayura: More Aggressive.
You learn some weird things when you look into the backgrounds of artists you favor. Aoi Eir was a gravure model at one point, I'm glad that she's dug herself out of that hole.
Zankyou no Terror could either be great, or another trainwreck to laugh at.
SAO II might actually be good. They're adapting one of the better arcs in the LN, not that it's saying much, but at least the female lead's not blatantly in love with Kirito this time....
Those aside;
AKAME GA KILL. The inner hipster's already hissing at the new fans the adaptation will bring.... Eghh, this is vexing. On one hand, I'm happy that it'll be getting more exposure, on the other hand though, it'll be like SnK all over again.
Isn't that everybody who started out with LisAni! ?
Also not only is she a singer but she gets to play video games for a living! (sometimes).
SAO [x] won't be good until Alicization and that's only because of the links to Accel World. And "not blatantly" just means tsuntsun anyways.
Mother's Rosario is okay and maybe they'll get to that but probably not since Gun Gale is three novels long (which is what they adapted for SAO I).
SnK was already super popular though, and still never crossed that line into the stuff that goes on in Akame ga Kill (which puts it in BTOOM! and Zetman territory along with Tokyo Ghoul).
Was the Crystal arc of the Sailor Moon manga the worst bit or something?
There's no Crystal arc of Sailor Moon. The new anime is re-adapting the first arc more faithfully to the manga.
Sadly, we probably still won't get Cyborg Ami. I hope it at least gets renewed until S so we get Cyborg Hotaru though.
Cyborg Senshi for everyone!
Everbody said there was though (they all seem to have changed the sypnosis now). Anyways there will be Sailor Moon and stuff will happen.
Aside from that, the first episode of M3 seemed thingy enough (though I should praise the choreography and mecha, which are nice), how bad can it get?
I think the arc is called "Dark Kingdom".
The end of episode 4 is kind of a Valvrave moment for the series. If you can make it past that (Good luck) you'll probably enjoy the series.
I was prepared to drop it after episode 5 but was willing to give it one more chance because my BFF loves it. Episode six wasn't terrible but it didn't impress so into the shamefully large dropped pile it goes.
Music direction is fantastic though. That's the director of Aria and Princess Tutu for you.
What kind of Valvrave moment? (there are two, end of episode 1 and end of episode 10).
It really is, even just so far.
I really did enjoy the first episode, they didn't focus too much on the monster having memories and that felt good because they weren't pretending they'd invented the concept. Some characters I already like (Obviously Kakihara Tetsuya's character and blonde twintails and goth girl) and I actually like that the protagonists are "marked" by viskei eyes for whatever reason.
The characters almost make it feel like Kamen Rider Fourze if Fourze wasn't Fourze.
Also I am such a child but it was so cool when the OP transitioned in.
Yes
That kind.
Also goth girl is best.
Then I can't watch it anymore.
Yay there goes another mecha anime <_<
In Japan land at least. I'm pretty sure the english-fanbase wasn't even a quarter as huge before the anime started airing. I can handle a huge fanbase if it isn't in any language I might understand. At least then I can pretend it doesn't exist. Blegh. Being a closet hipster is suffering.
But Gun Gale was decent!! If they keep the adaptation faithful to the novels, then Sinon really shouldn't be showing any romantic affection until next arcs. Then again, what's stopping them from putting that in...
I am only watching SAO for Lisbeth.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
Funnily enough that's why I started watching it (Takagaki Ayahi!).
But I'm pretty sure she only shows up again... never.
Speaking of her, Chihayafuru season 3 can't come any sooner...
Vexing. Vexiiiiing.
How many more chapters till season 3 becomes viable???
Isn't it sad not!Chris and not!Mizuno.
Man I still need to watch that. I saw the first eight episodes or so of season one and I was so impressed. Big surprise (In a good way) to learn it was by the CCS director.
SAO has that thing where if your favoraite character is a harem member they will not be in it at some point or another.
Like Black Bullet, but SAO at least acknowledges that the female MC is busy/captured/something and not just sidelined for no real reason.
I watched the entire first season of Chihayafuru and it was great! I just never found the motivation for the rest.
I think the most balanced harem I've seen is either Kanon 2006 or TLR. They do a reall good job of giving all the girls enough screentime and fleshing them out.
Also aaaaaaaaah the Chimera Ant arc of HxH (The one that's been airing for a year and a half) ends in just over a day and I cannot contain all this hype.
TFW I'm the only person I know watching the best shonen anime of all time.
Black Bullet that bad? Just know that girl who vaguely reminds me of Caster from Fate/Extra.
Chihayafuru's great guys. I sat my ass down one day and decided to see what the big fuss was all about. Was not disappointed at all. It's the most an anime's affected me while watching. I got teary-eyed at the end of season 2 just because I KNEW there was no more to adapt. OP's also evoked some "timebomb" feels on me, especially when they played it for the credits of the season 2 finale.
They're at the tip of my tongue, but I think I've seen some fairly decent ones aside from those two.
How does your heart not implode every time you lie and hurt Buddyfight like that?
Will HxH continue after this point? Is there even more manga to adapt yet?
As for harems, I actually liked the way Mashiroiro Symphony handled it's harem (if you considered Angie not part of it) since it was really just the main three girls (imouto thing wasn't pursued either). It handled every girl surprisingly well to the point that even though it didn't focus on Airi's route it still felt like she was main girl UNTIL THAT DANGED EPISODE TEN WHEN IT GOES FULL-ON MIO'S ROUTE but even then I can't really blame it because it did it well but really what kind of harem anime doesn't go with main girl?
And I mention it mostly because it's the only completely harem (and not reverse-harem) show I've ever seen.
It's not that exactly, it's just that my frustration with it just boiled over. Promo art initially only has Enju, later has Enju and Rentarou. Then the show started, Enju was great and Rentarou was fun. The plot was LN-ey, there were other cast members but Enju was still a main character. tokohana was there (I swear this is as important as the other stuff).
Episode 4's ending promised a bright future, I was actually excited even though the episode had pacing issues (and I guess escalation was insane). Rentarou now had a dark memory in his past that referenced the future (he has to kill an Initiator whose past her sustainable infection rate, and Enju is almost about to do the same), Seitenshi promises to look out for him even though even she as the head of the Tokyo Area can't do much to help him with his past, Enju helps Rentarou overcome his fears and their relationship is stronger for it.
Then... apparently the next novel in the series just forgot all this stuff and focused on other things (especially Enju unrelated things though) and actually even then it was only loosely tied together by the amazing music.
I understand this is a useless argument because neither of us have seen the other show, but I'm still right so there.
There's a short arc following this which is essentially an epilogue to the ants where Gon finally finds his dadd and Killua's cute transgender sister is introduced with a nen ability that makes King Crimson look like DBZ Saiyan Saga levels of simple.
Togashi's currently releasing the next arc weekly now and apparently he's basically written it during his last hiatus, so who knows what the future of the anime holds. Maybe they'll do the next arc as an OVA series in a year or so like the original show did with Greed Island.
It's really really good. I feel kind of bad saying this, but it easily leaves FMA Brotherhood in the dust. If it ends as good as it's been for the last twenty or so weeks (I've not read the small amount of unadapted manga left) then it might end up supplanting Shiki, Haibane Renmei or SnW as one of my favourites.
Also Monogatari would probably be a balanced harem if not for the hilarious lack of Gahara for most of the franchise past Bake and the fact that S2 has Araragi lose one harem member after another.
oh my gosh why did i unspoil that
I guess I should really really watch Second Season now.
Yeah that is odd, but I was expecting Koi to fix that.
Anyways there will be Hachikuji (for at least a while apparently) so nothing else really matters.
Also just in case there's ever an argument about this best Monogatari arc will always be Tsukihi Phoenix, with Suruga Monkey a close second. I said it first and therefore it's the law.
(I actually wonder if anybody at all agrees with me.)
The best arc is Shinobu Time. It's... perfect.
Followed by Mayoii Jiangshi, then Hitagi End, Nadeko Medusa, Mayoii Snail, Suruga Monkey, Tsubasa Tiger, Tsukihi Phoenix, Tsubasa Cat, Karen Bee, Hitagi Crab and finally Nadeko Snake.
Second Season is wonderful. Every arc has such a satisfying ending and they flesh out everyone and Tsubasa becomes so likeable.
Also Yotsugi becomes best girl for a while.
