The thread for pimping Kickstarters.
Comments
Stone Blade Entertainment (formerly Gary Games, aka the SolForge people) have launched another Kickstarter, this one to make an online version of their paper game Ascension. The paper game is something I've wanted to play for a long time and I've heard nothing but praise for it, but sadly I don't really know anyone who's into that sort of thing so I've never shelled out to buy a copy.
I think this is worth the $10 tier, at least.
Want a 3D printer, but can't afford one? Like drawing, but hate having to do it on a page?
This is a pen that is a 3D printer.
inXile's doing another Kickstarter. This time making a spiritual sequel to Planescape: Torment set in Monte Cook's Numenera.
That sounds pretty good, on the other hand, though
>Monte Cook
Hmm. I was nonplussed when I heard that the next "Torment" wouldn't be a Planescape game, but making it Numenera is a good choice. And the description of the story hits that same "what can change the nature of a man" sweet spot.
Hmmm.
Holy fuck, it's over $1.5 million.
Unsurprising, given that from what I've heard, Wizards currently appears to be in denial that Planescape exists. Possibly because they're terrified of people liking them.

All my money
All my fucking money
I'm wary. Richard Garriott hasn't done anything of particular note for a long time. Also, the ego thing.
"No one has made these kinds of games since I stopped"
Not to mention the gameplay he has shown doesn't look particularly revolutionary...or even good for that matter.
Shovel Knight is a retro game that touts itself as Megaman X Castlevania.
It's made by former WayForward staff and composed by virt.
That does sound good, but I've spent $574 on Kickstarters in the last two weeks or so. I really need to take a break.
In other news, kicking myself for not getting around to donating to Spider Stories, but it got funded so all is good.
Most of that is the SotA and T:ToN, which I wanted nice rewardsets from.
I also backed a 3D printing pen and weird puzzle-maze-novel-thing.
So I kind of took pity on these guys, felt like posting it somewhere.
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD
CONTINUE? IS MAKING A SHOW
FUND THESE HANDSOME FUCKS!
Chasm is intended to be a procedurally-generated metroidvania.
This will be interesting.
That said, the 3-Doodler has got to be one of the most epic kickstarters I've ever seen. It's not a game; it's a freakin' invention.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent...but you're a toddler.
C Wars looks really fun. And it's a Chinese studio, so props to that.
^ I'm not sure how much I like the game itself (and no, it doesn't look anything like Tower Defense...but I haven't played that many TD games, admittedly), but I like the pixelated style, the character art, the elegance of fitting all the graphics into one megabyte, and the fact that it's a team of Chinese indie developers working on this.
No, it doesn't look anything like Tower Defense. It's more of a more focused RTS.
I don't see enough people talking about Toby Fox's Undertale.
It's a cute as hell Earthbound-like RPG, with a Touhou-like battle system that also allows you to win every random encounter by talking the monsters out of fighting. The demo's pretty short, but it has some replay value.
...is that a mimiga?
It could be a Nu Mou, too.
She's a magical rabbit mom thing.
Then again, Cave Story is on the list of games people have compared it to.

(Note that the music used in the trailer isn't representative of the game's music, which will be written by this guy.)
This game...I remember seeing some very early videos of the game, such as this and this.
In fact, it's that second video that introduced me to the Cheetahmen theme.
I also remember putting this game on my to-play list. It's still one of the earliest entries on there.
I'm really, really tempted to some money on this thing. And maybe even a full $25 because then I get the soundtrack.
At the very least, y'all should back its Steam Greenlight entry!
FWIW, there's a new demo out for Legend of Iya, which I hear speeds up the gameplay (compared to the demo video).
Time to mention this one more time - Legend of Iya
Check out the demo! Admire the beautiful pixel art! Listen to the youtube uploads of the composer the dev will hire with the kickstarter funding!
And watch the new trailer -- now with music from the eventual composer!
Come to think of it, I should probably change this thread's title to "The thread for pimping Kickstarters."
Iya's face kind of bothers me.
Just played the demo.
Seems pretty rough but promising. The controls are smooth, albeit a bit slow when turning around after falling from a jump.
Would REALLY benefit from better music. If only the forest area had music like this...
And...
...there are people who don't?
...oh, right. Windows makes ZIP files act like folders, which is confusing. Dangit Windows, why do you have to do stupid things like this.
When you end up playing it tell me what's with the bunny suit guy at 2:02.
