How easily the mind can be swayed by sex drive.

That bugs me.

Mod edit: You little bastard.  For retitling the thread "I have the uncontrollable urge to give a 7-year-old a handjob.", you would get a threadlock if I didn't edit it back.

  • Meh. Only if you let it.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
    Well, it's a powerful instinct, I guess.

You can tune it out by thinking about other things, though, right?
  • It wouldn't be a drive at all if it didn't influence you.
  • I'm not sure why this is a bad thing.

Humans are animals. Our sole purpose in life is sex, or, more accurately, to fuck, breed, and die. That's it. It's not surprising that sex can control the mind.
  • ^ Wow wtf. First you're all high and preachy about how people are totally immoral for having lots of sex and now this?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

"It's an inborn human instinct" doesn't immediately translate to "It isn't immoral", you know.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Especially under the Christian concept of original sin.

on second thought i'll leave this to Chagen.
  • Bugs me too. A lot.
I mean sure, I can override it quite easily.
The problem is that it acts faster than I can consciously.
So typically, at least in the case of certain small actions, the body has already started to act before I can override and prevent it.   I don't have the ability to ensure I never stare at women, but I can make sure when it happens that it only lasts for a brief moment. Of course much more irritating is when it decides to stop me to do some oogling, when I'm really trying to get from A to B in a hurry.
O'course my preferred answer to all of this is to lock myself in my room where there is nobody for it to take interest in.

No offense but if you really are so easily influenced by sex, then you're either fourteen or stupid (not that there's much difference). The sex drive is actually pretty weak, just most people aren't used to a little thing called "thinking" and so they just do the first thing their body tells them to--the same stupidity which, by the way, leads to diabetes, car accidents, debt, and all sorts of other bad things.

Frankly, people who really are so easily swayed by sex that they, for example, would see a movie just because it has nudity in it, ought to be shot on principle (unless they're still teenagers. Then and only then do they have an excuse)

Wow. You do know that those things befall even careful people, right?

Because you never know what you might see.
    ^^ Uh... that's a wee bit extreme, isn't it?

Yes, blaming your sex drive for any kind of failure is pathetic and a pretty poor excuse, but remember that some people have a higher libido than others, and may have to work harder to keep it under control.

And hell, what's it to you if somebody watches a movie just because it has nudity in it?  That's a question of taste, isn't it?  (Also, I trust you've never watched pornography, because if you have that would make you quite the hypocrite.)

Also seconding Chagen's post like mad.  Sometimes people are just unfortunate, or get screwed over by other people.

None of that applies to sex though.

Okay, maybe the other driver was drunk, or you got fucked up genes or whatever. Okay, you could get screwed unfairly, and I'm willing to even say that of all the people who claim bad luck, maybe 10% of them are telling the truth.

But how the hell do you get a girl pregnant and claim you just had an unlucky day, or that it was an accident? How do you wind up getting into a loveless marriage after knowing the guy for only a month? How do you wind up behind on the bills because you spent your entire income on porno? So much prep goes into these things that you simply do not have any excuse. You thought with your nethers, not with your head, and you made a bad choice. Intentionally. So don't come crying for sympathy when shit happens to you.

I've made mistakes in my life, but absolutely none of them had to do with sex. I see mistakes coming and know how to avoid them. That's why, while you're paying child support for a kid you never wanted but had anyway because you wanted to know what the difference between with and without protection was, I just scored a couple of hard-to-find Sega games. And guess which of us is happier!
  • you're either fourteen or stupid

    Why specifically 14?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    Condom broke.

    Lack of information? Coercion?

@Edmania: I kinda chose a number at random, but basically from 13-18 is when your sex drive first kicks in, and it kicks in in force. Couple that with that youth generally correlates to not having all the necessary education, and you're looking at the only time in your life where sex drive really is a force to be reckoned with.

If you're still having problems with it by the time you reach 20 though, then you're stupid.

@Cygan: Then here's an option: don't have sex.

@Khwarizmi: What kind of "information?" You're making whoopee. It's either gonna get her pregnant or it isn't.

As for coercion... keep in mind I'm speaking from the guy's perspective here (I know girls have to put up with a lot of shit that guys don't), and how the hell can a guy be "coerced" into having sex?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
sure is holier than thou in here
  • @MoeDantes: I kinda want to point out the obvious with this question of mine, but it seems like you're implying that everyone has the same amount of sexual urges?

I am not excusing people with high sexual urges at all here, just kinda wanted to question this.

Consider this missing the point if you will, but charting a graph with incorrect information is a horrible practice by which I can never get behind.

    Same way a girl can.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
    >Then here's an option: don't have sex.

What exactly do you think the purpose of a condom is?  And they usually work, if worn correctly.  Usually.  But not always.

    >What kind of "information?"

Information about the nature of the relationship you're entering into, information about circumstances, information about future changes in circumstances that may be difficult to predict, information about sex itself (most sex ed is pretty terrible)...

    >As for coercion... keep in mind I'm speaking from the guy's perspective here, and how the hell can a guy be "coerced" into having sex?

The same ways that anybody can be coerced into anything.  Don't assume guys are somehow immune to all forms of manipulation or intimidation.

In any case, I thought we were talking about people of both sexes.

If I may use a badaphor here:

Imagine a doctor came out with a new sci-fi procedure which can create a new life form. The doctor wants you and one other person to go into this machine that will turn you both into a single being for a period of time, and somehow this will cause the third being to be created. By the way, if it works, you're going to be the caretakers of the third being, responsible for everything about its upbringing and education.

Would you honestly go into this without a shred of serious thought? Would you do it "just for fun" or with someone you don't seriously intend to be with for the rest of your life?

This is where I have a serious disconnect with modern society. I mean, people today are so backwards, that they'll refuse to adopt kittens and puppies because of the responsibilities and the expense, but they'll gladly and thoughtlessly engage in activities that could give them a child--a child that is far more expensive and far more a responsibility than having 20 cats, and by the way to get that child one half of the pair has to be sick for nine months. It. Doesn't. Make. Sense.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
You're right, that really is an incredibly bad metaphor.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    ^^
It kind of does make sense (Not the metaphor obviously.), there are multiple methods to prevent the child through contraception abortions etc etc.

Sex if taken in this way becomes a very low risk pleasurable activity, that is seen as a cornerstone (if not the base by some) for a happy healthy life and relationship.

@Khwarizmi: And yet, the only comeback you've got is to point out that it's bad, without also arguing against the point its meant to prove.
