People who deny anthropogenic factors affecting climate change.

edited 2011-06-18 21:53:27 in General
I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
It is quite frankly ludicrous to say that humanity has no effect on the climate.

Also when the media was using global warming as the moniker for climate change the people who went
"It snowed lots this winter, so there can't be global warming."
They are especially idiots.

  • Buh, buh, buh, climate change scientists have engaged in immoral behaviours!

On a more serious note, showing some of the copious evidence would help your case.

  • Well, climate change scientists have sometimes slightly over-exxagerated results.

Not like I give a damn. I'm not cutting my usage of fossil fuels in the slightest. Why should I care about saving the enviroment? I'm only gonna live for ~90~ years anyway.

Do you intend to have children? Does anyone you care about intend to have children?

Chagen weren't you complaining about wishing people would remember you in the future? They'll only remember you as that asshole who used more gas than they should have and made summers unfuckingbelievably horrible because of it.

Future? Pffft, I'm not gonna be there. Go to hell, future.

    @Abyss
There are obviously lots more I could use in evidence as you say.

I cannot really comprehend how selfish your sentiment is.
  • Look, I just wanna time trial in peace, okay?

Not time trial while annoying stuck-up hippies yell at me.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Cars are but one factor of anthropogenic climate change.

Also people who agree with climate change aren't automatically hippies.

It would be a useful idea to not strawman the other side as a bunch of annoying stuck-up hippies.

I, for one, don't have long hair, marijuana, or tie-dye shirts. :P
  • I guess I shouldn't be surprised by Chagen being a horrifying example of everything wrong with humanity,

    That was uncalled for. Seriously.
  • a little muffled
I suppose "acting like" might have been better than "being".
  • "And I'll be dead. And I'm one man. I cannot screw the world over that much"

At the risk of it sounding like an "but if everyone does it" argument, a culture based around bad environmental habits does screw over the world that much. So as an individual, your impact may not seem that much, but your habits validate such a culture.

  • a little muffled
Exactly. If Chagen was the only one with that attitude, he'd be a harmless idiot, but the fact that it's such a common attitude (whether admitted or not) among so many is the reason we're in this mess.
  • So apparently I'm an idiot for not being a radical socialist liberal.

I'm not advocating that we burn fossil fuels at an increased rate.

I just want to time trial in peace. You do know that most major racing organizations are trying to reduce their enviromental impact, right?

I hate the anti-gearhead/anti-car bias all liberals seem to have.
  • "You do know that most major racing organizations are trying to reduce their enviromental impact, right?"

It's cute how naive you are. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. What are they trying to do to reduce their environmental impact?

(sigh) Alright. This one does nothing to cut her usage of fossil fuels and does not intend to in a foreseeable future. It does seem to be way too much trouble to go through, and pretty meaningless as long as there is a heavy industry and milliards of cars (this one doesn't drive, btw) to contribute to it.
Even though she does believe in global warming.
Is this one behaving as an example of everything that is wrong with humanity?

I hate the anti-gearhead/anti-car bias all liberals seem to have.

    Umm, sorry?
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    @Chagen
You were being called an idiot for your selfish fuck the future attitude rather than not being of a certain political alignment.
  • Abyss worm:Holy fucking shit, dude. F1 has been going on and on about how they are trying to reduce their enviromental impact.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KERS Here's one.

    Oh and:

"The FIA is responsible for making rules to combat the spiralling costs of Formula One racing (which affects the smaller teams the most) and for ensuring the sport remains as safe as possible, especially in the wake of the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994. To this end the FIA have instituted a number of rule changes, including new tyre restrictions, multi-race engines, and reductions on downforce. Safety and cost have traditionally been paramount in all rule-change discussions. More recently the FIA has added efficiency to its priorities. Currently the FIA and manufacturers are discussing adding bio-fuel engines and regenerative braking for the 2011 season or from the start of the 2013 season. Former FIA President Max Mosley believes F1 must focus on efficiency to stay technologically relevant in the automotive industry as well as keep the public excited about F1 technology."

Stop talking shit about things you know FUCKING NOTHING ABOUT.

    @Chagen:
So apparently I'm an idiot for not being a radical socialist liberal.
Neither socialism nor social liberalism really has anything to do with environmentalism at all.
I'm not advocating that we burn fossil fuels at an increased rate.
Which would be nice, but the current rate is already problematic.
I just want to time trial in peace.
It must be so tough for you.
You do know that most major racing
organizations are trying to reduce their enviromental impact, right?
Funny, I thought we were talking about you. That being said, a racing organization trying to reduce its environmental impact is like a tobacco company trying to reduce the amount of carcinogens in its products. It's better than nothing, but, well, that's about all that can be said about it.
I hate the anti-gearhead/anti-car bias all liberals seem to have.
    lolpersecutioncomplex

Edit@Beholderess: Not particularly. I do far less than I could to help the environment. The part that disturbs me is the attitude, not the action. If he'd said something to the effect of, "Helping the environment is nice but largely incompatible with my car fetish" I might have made a slightly disapproving remark, but not more than that.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
With regards to cars in general: cars produce a tiny portion of the world's greenhouse gasses. They were pretty much the first thing people bothered reducing emissions on.

Every one of those billions of people think "Oh, someone else will do it. Why should I, when there's billions of others who do it?"
  • And how much exactly has either of people present done to reduce their fossil fuel usage?
  • Oh, and, Abyss, here's another link to prove that you are WRONG:

Me? As much as I can. i.e Not using fans/heaters, washing everything I can at once to save water, walking everywhere I can, taking my laptop off charge and unplugging it when the power is near full, using public transport, recycling as much as I can, composting/growing my own food, etc etc.
