Insanity Addict uses a lot of internet speak to express the simple point that in his experience, while pedophiles are generally skeevy folks they are also too inept and harmless to actually do any damage to real people. So the whole righteous indignation felt by folks is kinda silly since it is just using harmless assholes as a convenient punching bag. Or something something bros.

^Succinct summary, though the experience pertains only to the pedotaku subspecies, not the whole of kiddie fiddlers

Drama Chronicles thread is handy for this, but the short version:

A bro called Draven appears, admits pedophilia, gets ragged on, gets banned on same day, but not quick enough according to some users, who said he should have gotten the cuntpunt the moment he admitted to said perversion.

Before that, Chuggles, who was basically every bad teens-on-the-internet cliche rolled into one, was around for a long time even though he was an admitted lolicon. Then again, the guy admitted to new personality quirks and kinks every day, so it was easy to lose track of that detail.

    Lucky me.

Oi, I don't even wanna touch that one.

Could you say something something bros for me? That would really make my day man.

    Go back to bed, Garfield.

    Yeah.

I am not too keen on discussing pedophilia in general, gives me flashbacks to my last few months on TVTropes, so if you guys are gonna have a spiel about this I'll just exit stage left for the time being, I think.

  • I said my point, I'll drop it. If unneccessary drama derail, mods can nuke the posts where appropriate.

You may have a point, but what caused you to bring it up at this point? I mean, the whole Draven incident passed two months ago.

    a little muffled

For some reason there was, as I said, a minor flare-up about it two nights ago.

And then, yeah, Nyarly oldquoted something from that discussion.

  • Kichigai birthday!!

That Mirai Mousepad thing in IA's link bothers me because those kinda things look very uncomfortable to use .

    These bits(further up in thread):

A poster: Yeah, IJBM doesn't exactly keep around known pedophiles.

Other poster: Really? I had quite a different impression.

next poster; (thank you for saying this)

Screw this, too repetitive, have something else to rage at:

We can all blame this on Nyarly really.

Huh, I didn't even notice that.

    Personally, I blame the Communists.

  • Likes cheesecake unironically.

Well, I was born in GDR.

Still, I have to admit that it was rather pointless after all. I mean, I could elaborate, but... well, this would involve mentioning names and I'd rather not get banned for accusing others of such things.

On other, more pleasant, things, I have no idea what to do over the three weeks I have vacation. I considered going to the cinema, but they aren't showing Avengers here (anymore, at least) and that's the only movie I'd consider. There is also The Amazing Spiderman, but I didn't like the Sam Raimi one (the first one, which is also the only one I ever watched) all that much, although it wasn't bad, and since this is a reboot of exactly that movie (which makes me wonder what the point of it is), I don't have much hope.

This is probably a contentious enough topic, but I guess I'm sort of curious as to what you mean by this. You can PM me with your thoughts, if you want. I won't ban you for something said in a PM. Unless you just tossed random threats at me, but I doubt that.

Also, thanks to those who offer condolences, though it honestly hasn't hit me that hard. Exactly eight months ago, our other dog had problems, and then the newly-deceased's health started going bad over time, so I've basically done my grieving.

  • You can change. You can.

(which makes me wonder what the point of it is)

Keeping the license so that Sony can keep cashing on the superhero craze while Marvel can't add Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Which means there won't be an Avenging Spider-Man movie :(

    Holy shit, lots of posts.

Oh gosh, the debate over pedophilia/Draven/ has been raised from its grave.

Well, people have made this point repeatedly, that pedophilia is bad, but that does not mean all people afflicted by pedophilia are bad people, and we should be treating each such person as an individual, reacting appropriately depending on their opinion of pedophilia.

As for the ban reason for Draven, he was banned for importing and starting drama.  This--particularly the latter charge--is based on his unrepentant self-labeling as a pedophile (whether 'tis true, I know not), plus his subsequently exhibiting no sense to realize that most people don't condone (or even tolerate) pedophilia.  So yeah, we don't have to spell out "pedophilia" for the ban reason to involve it quite directly--he was an unrepentant pedophile as far as we could tell, and by his own admission--not even admission, to be frank, but rather, proclamation.

    I hope that settles it.

e: Of course, why would you even want to preserve the NSFW tropes from TVTropes anyway?

This was my idea, not anything officially sanctioned by this board or its mods.

I was hoping to use this site to preserve the NSFW content since there was basically a gag order on discussing such preservation on the TVTF.  The thread then got hijacked, and then I decided to just let it go.

Why preserve them?  Because they contain content relevant to the mission of documenting what happens in media.  I have always seen, as one of TV Tropes's missions, the cataloguing of devices, trends, and features of media and its presentation and metacontext, WITHOUT passing moral judgement on said items.  While TVT's coverage is far, FAR from perfect, it was at least a start, and I thought it was worth preserving the information that resulted from time and effort put in by contributors.

(I am also interested in preserving my subtly snarky description of the surprisingly hilarious porn game Custer's Revenge.)

That said, I quickly found that people at TVT weren't keen on the idea (and heck, the mods forbade discussion of preserving them), and even people here weren't interested.  So I was like, ehh, fuck it.

I would highly disapprove of using such a thing as a bid for attention, for instance.

Not to mention that something like that, if it causes drama, would have the drama blamed on the person who started it.

    ----

"Echo Chamber" is a horrible, horrible title for a show intending to introduce new people to something.

    ----

Part of me wonders if this will really benefit the RIAA and MPAA like they think it will. On one hand people might just go out and buy the things they would have torrented. On the other hand they might not touch it at all since they didn't want stuff enough to pay for it in the first place.

They're probably betting on the former.  I'd bet on the latter.  Their work is getting far more exposure thanks to illegal downloads.  You can't force people to buy DVDs; if they really can't get to your work, I suspect most people will just throw their hands up in the air and say fuck it.

Even though I don't like what the ISP's are doing I'm not going to panic yet. One, it's mainly focused on music and movies not games and anime. Two, there are ways around it already. Three, I have no idea if my ISP is even participating.

You know, I think one MAJOR reason I've had much more exposure to Japanese media than U.S. media is because U.S. media is much harder to access at little or no cost.  This is why I've repeatedly mentioned how unauthorized distribution of media expands the fanbase.

For example, little Timmy, who lives in the United States, likes Japanese Cartoon A and U.S. TV Show B about the same amount.  He's seen some of both, and wants to see more, and is about equally interested.  There's a torrent of Japanese Cartoon A, which he can get in on and have pretty much no chance of being sued or whatever.  Then there's a torrent of U.S. TV Show B, which might be malware and which (if it's the real thing) might get himself in lots of trouble.

Which one is he going to torrent?  Which one is he more likely to become a dedicated fan of?

    The answer is pretty simple.

I'm going to Arizona this summer.

This doesn't sound like a good idea.  You're traveling to a dry, hot area in the summer, and besides, Jan Brewer is governor.

  • You can change. You can.

    Who's even that

Also, Operation Galactic Storm was a total punch in the gut.

The Administrator is the disembodied voice announcing information in Team Fortress 2 matches.  It is a older female voice speaking in a stern tone.

The voice later got a character portrait, a very harsh older lady who exudes a very mean streak in her businesslike attitude, being the one who plays RED and BLU against each other.  She also hates friendship.

  • You can change. You can.

    Well, it’s done.

Boy, Imma miss that show. And Carol Danvers, Puncher of Things.

Oh well, Captain Marvel’s coming up so there’s that.

  • Wait the show's over? It's really over?

...I think I might just cry now.
