nuAvengers fans? Ones who have been on board since Bendis took over or the ones who got suckered into the franchise via the movies?
I would start a Homestuck thread, but the only homestuck fans here are me, Kraken, and Haven.
The rest don't care or hate it.
^^The latter.
Bonus points if they squee over Loki and even more bonus points if they insist he was brainwashed.
I like Homestuck. There just hasn't been much to talk about it here since I get my Homestuck chatter itch satisfied elsewhere.
Eeeh, could you please change your avatar? It's really fucking creepy chummer.
WHOA
Alkthash is like the least likely person I'd think of as a Homestuck fan.
And sure.
>:? What does that mean exactly?
Maybe because you're nothing like the majority of the fandom.
Which is a compliment.
^ This, pretty much.
Also you seem like the type of guy who would get frustrated at all of Hussman's self-inserts.
Eh, I liked Stephan King's Dark Tower books well enough. Authorial self inserts as a seemingly important but mostly accessory role in the story is nothing new to me and not that horrible.
Dude.
Almost all of us read Grant Morrison.
This is the guy who has the pathological need to insert himself in every story (not really, but nonetheless)
I think I'll go through with the homestuck thread idea just to see where it goes.
I think it all comes down to how well you do it. In Morrison's case it was either a metafictional bit, or part of a spell to get laid.
Can't speak for hussie though.
I like most of hussie's bits, including the part where he proposes to Vriska in the afterlife
Well, duh. All I'm saying is that we're not really opposed to the concept, though.
So, I might be meeting Neil Gaiman in two months time.
Best CGI.
bluh bluh
don't eat an entire bag of cheetos by yourself
^^ Oh God that movie. I'm not even sure if the "CG" (clip art) was the worst part of it.
A scientist believes he'll figure out how to best Death in the next 30-40 years
A scientist
I admire their enthusiasm, but...
Will it involve chess? Fiddles? Exclusive Possession?
That feel when you just realize the inherenty hilarity in a departament store chain called Gran Morrison where they sell some comic books, including Grant Morrison stuff.
...that's a horrible pun
you should go to the owner and insult his mother
Ran out of energy drink, now resorting to tea. Desperate times indeed.
So I finally watched Bandai Entertainment's K-ON! DVDs. Of course, Bandai Entertainment was again unable to make a set of DVDs that doesn't skip on at least one episode. And it was the start of the Christmas episode too, which is like the cutest scene in the whole show. :c Also, the special features suck. There's just interviews with the dub cast, and english versions of the songs. Cast interviews are always terrible since they never ask questions that really have anything to do with the show, just silly things like "do you think you're similar to your character?" that don't really mean anything except to big fans of the actor. An interview with the director or producer or even the dub director would be a lot more interesting to watch. The English versions of the songs would be alright except that it's more confusing than anything else. They apparently did record English versions of the insert songs, yet if you actually watch the dub, the songs are still in Japanese... >.> Most notably, they don't even have the shorts that were special features on the Japanese DVDs/BDs. Not that they were particularly great, but still...
Also, they replaced Tsubasa wo Kudasai in the second episode with something worse, most likely because Bandai Entertainment didn't want to spend the money to license it...
And they translated "Moe moe kyun" as "The power of cute compels you" which is... bizarre, if nothing else. But since the alternative would be yet another translator note that says "(moe = turn-on)" this is preferable to not translating it at all, I suppose.
I know I'm only buying the DVDs to show support, so it doesn't matter too much about the actual contents of the DVD, but still... it'd be nice if the DVDs were actually good.
tl;dr: DYRE complains about stuff that doesn't matter.
How would you translate "moë moë kyun"?
Yeah, I agree; I like to look at behind-the-scenes stuff because I'm interested in the production process.
Anyhow, now that you've bought and paid for the DVDs, pirate away and get yourself a fansub.
Honestly, I wouldn't. It's not like it really... means anything at all anyway. "Moe" is a word that often doesn't get translated even by official translations (in fact, even by a number of other Bandai Entertainment releases, like Haruhi and Lucky Star), and "kyun" is just, like... a sound, so it wouldn't exactly be weird to just leave the line as it is, like the fansubs I've seen did.
>implying I haven't already watched like three different fansub versions
Incidentally, I don't think I've seen a fansub that I'm totally happy with either, so maybe I'm just really picky when it comes to this show.
From what I've heard, K-On doesn't sound especially translation-friendly.
By that do you really just mean from the last time I complained about a translation of K-ON!? >.>
In any case though, it is kind of true. There are a few pretty major things in the series that don't really translate very well. The name of the club (or rather, the name of the show) and Yui's nickname for Azusa being two of them, plus there are a lot of puns. Fortunately, Bandai Entertainment at least didn't try translating "Azu-nyan." At least for the subs. I do not know if the dub was different.
The dub translates Azu-nyan as "Azumeow"
definetly one of its...less interesting choices
