    I stand on Grendel's shoulders
At this point I'm just willing to try it out and see where it goes.
  • Troper Tales was never a forum, so I'm also going to give this a shot.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^If reasonable people are willing to go there and steer the discussion in interesting directions, it could be good. If not, it could be horrible.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
The forums are described as the biggest shithole on the site next to TT. Forgive me for not feeling reassured.
  • If it sticks by its rules, it'll thrive, if not it'll die. Fine with me either way.
  • You can change. You can.
Eh, I'll watch by the sidelines. Do whatever you want.

Honestly, I agree with Ivy and Tuefel that this isn't what we voted for. Not only that, but we even set up a TT wiki when it wasn't even our purpose/duty to do so.

This makes everything we did almost moot and tries to make trash look more presentable.

    but

I can honestly deal with it and accept it. Just don't expect me to police it, read it or even know about it.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Hey, goons. Is there anyway I can pay for an account through paypal or something?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^If you aren't allowed to pay from Paypal, that restriction might be because Paypal has this annoying habit of not giving sellers their money.
  • Just pay in bitcoins, God it's like you're an internet newbie.
  • lol use maesturcard noob

    Clean your room little Billy

Let me tell you a little story. So imagine you start hanging out with this group of people. Kinda weird people, but nice and good to be around. You get used seeing them. Then others start joining in. These people aren't so good to be around, but superficially they're so similiar to the original group you don't really notice. Then these people start to introduce some really weird stuff. You have your misgivings, but hey, it looks innocent enough, so you're basically fine with it. And so they keep introducing edgier shit that eventually crosses over into territory no sane person or society would tolerate, but since the change is so gradual, you either keep making allowances or just plain don't notice. Then one day you go outside and find a wanted poster with the names and faces of your group on it. Your face is on it too. You can barely look at the charges they're so horrendous.

And that's when you wake up.

Hyperbolic, yes, and I still believe in the concept of a fiction wiki. But there's not much attaching me to TVT in it's current state, and this decision isn't helping things.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Eh, if the "general trope discussion" idea winds up instituted and some people are willing to steer the subforum's culture in a positive direction, I can't see this being all that bad. Might even have some positive effects.
  • Honestly, I'm with INUH.
  • Clean your room little Billy
Perhaps you're correct. It still feels like a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory, though.
  • TT will be gone from the main wiki, that's all I care about. Whiners can suck it.
  • I wish I had the same faith in the site's administration as you.
  • You can change. You can.
Pretty much with Decapodian and Ivy here.

But bluh, I still enjoy the forums' mega thread. Except when thee inevitable user turnaround happens and only the retards and annoying users stay or something.
  • I'LL STAY MAI HAUNDS...WITH YAU BLAHT
    Ugh, dammit.

Time to delete TVT off my bookmarks.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^Well, Eddie already said my idea for a non-TT-focused subforum seems good, and if he goes through with it, the character of the subforum will be determined by the people posting there.

So it's less faith and more logic.
  • The flounce is now complete.

I guess this also means that I'm going to be going away from here, as well, since now that stuff about TV Tropes' administration no longer concerns me, there isn't any reason for me to be here.

See you on #yackfest, I guess.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
I am torn. On the one hand, TT is gone.

On the other, it's staying on the wiki. I'm in a good mood because I just saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but I still need to decide if I'm going to permanently delete my TVT account.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
If all the people capable of making the new Trope Talk intelligent leave now, it will be what you're worried about. If they stick around a bit and try to give it a good start, it has a chance.
  • You people leave, then it won't ever get better.
  • You can change. You can.
But why stick to something we don't even like or believe on?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Because the part you don't like is mostly being cleared, and if you stay on, you can lessen its hold on the site.
  • It may not be the total victory you wanted, but its still a step in the right direction. I never believed this was automatically fix all of TvT's problem, not for a second, but I did learn that we can at least use this as a stepping point to start making a real difference.
  • You can change. You can.
Because the part you don't like is mostly being cleared

the part of it I dislike being the premise itself. Unless the idea of people appllying tropes to themselves is somehow changed along the way into something else, then, I don't see how "the part I dislike is mostly being cleared"

and if you stay on, you can lessen its hold on the site.

-shrug- Unless the suck spreads to the pages I edit and the works I like as well as the threads I like, then I don't see myself caring that much.

Look, if you think it's gonna work and you can make it work, more power to you, but when we make a week-long proposition to delete something in any shape or form of the wiki and it passes, the minimum you expect is the proposition to be followed rather than performing a loophole abuse to just please both sides.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
So, we delete Troper Tales and then... make a new Troper Tales section? What?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^That's not what's happening. A subforum for discussion of specific tropes -- any form of discussion -- is being made.

Anecdotes will be allowed in it, but that doesn't mean we have to let them overwhelm it.
