  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Nakama, The Mario, helping with the Troper Tales... Hm.

You know what i hate? Bringing up something valid (asking for forum-specific mods) and then waiting for replies >:|
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Waiting for replies is definitely the only aspect of online communication I don't like.

    Okay...

Could we actually maybe work on an analysis to present here?
  • You can change. You can.
OK, I'm back from a Magic game.

Here's what I need, gimme links to the relevant Trope Talk threads INUH just mentioned.

As for an analysis, I think Malkavian wrote a thesis on Batman a while ago. Might be helpful.

We haven't made the Trope Talk threads yet.

I'm just hoping that if we can provide an example as to what an analysis would be good like...
  • Glad to know you're on board anyway, Juan. Too bad I can't help because I'm terrible with analysis in general.

Well, did you get around amking the research for the vampire one?

^I'm kinda good at em (Have to be if I don't wanna starve) but I'm honestly on a rut in terms of inspiration right now. And I don't get paid to write in English, so it's not like I have much of a motivation. >_>

I could not find any examples that were not from Anne Rice or later.

It may be easier if we focused on a broader Trope for the moment, like Face Heel Turn, which has a lot more information readily available.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a long-winded analysis, you can just start discussing the trope and build it cooperatively from there.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
^If that's the case, why not write collaborative analyses and post them on the respective trope's analysis pages?
  • You can change. You can.

While true, it also needs to have a point.

    I don't have a point.

    You might see the problem.

Congratulations, you just found a use for this new system.

Now, now, condescension doesn't become you, Noimporta.

    Sarcasm, however...

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Don't we already have that Vampires Are Sex Gods analysis that was being kicked around in the Analysis thread? We could start up a thread by asking for help on it.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Making hard-and-fast, "crystal clear" rules actually makes rules-lawyering easier, not harder. Trust me on this.

    Grrr.

Anyway, where would we make the thread?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
In the new subforum, when it opens.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    But that could take ages...
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Well, yeah, but we can't work on improving the subforum until it exists.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
But I'm trying to focus on the Analysis right now, so we can have something to offer up when the subforum opens up and we try to work on it.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Ah.

Well, we already have a working start on that trope. Want to talk about another?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
I was thinking of taking a look at some of the more embedded tropes.

For example, I was thinking of the Face Heel Turn, the Heel Face Turn, the Anti Hero, Redemption Equals Death, and Heroic Sacrifice tropes, which I'm fairly sure stretch way back into the past and have a boatload of info available.

You know if you delete your account you can just make a new one, probably in secret and continue posting in the forums like nothing ever happened, right? You know that deleting your account is a laughable attempt at saying "See what I am doing? You caused this. I hope you are happy...I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY!!! T_T" while screaming into the internet sky like you aren't coming back, when in all honesty, when you get interested you'll just make a new handle.

Stop being a bitch and request an IP ban.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^Those could all be interesting, though I'd have to do some research to comment further.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Yeah. I'll do some research today and report on the thread with my findings, OK?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Cool.

I was thinking Enkidu of The Epic of Gilgamesh was the oldest Heel Face Turn for a bit, but he really starts out as more of a rival than a villain, I think.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
We may see... I'll go ask around on the forum to see if anybody knows about this.

That would be true if it wasn't because of the "one IP = one account" rule.

Sockpuppets you know. I made 5 accounts, 3 of them are deleted. I can still log into both of them...so.....?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Now try to make an account from an IP you've made one with before. It's a new restriction to cut down on spammers.
  • You can change. You can.
Yeah, I mean, if I nuked Juan Carlos, I could use one of the sockpuppets. But there's no point in me walking as "Obi Juan Kenobi" or as "Tommy Wiseau"

And it's mostly to avoid those annoying "Maybe I should return" things. It's final and it's definitive. Sure, you can ask for the ban, but in the case of, say, English Ivy, who still uses #yackfest and still would get linked to TvT a lot, there's really no point in doing it.
