  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    No, it's... that's... pretty much what's happened.

    No, no, actually.

Before the Troper Tales people can blitzkreig the area, I am going to spam the subforum with threads on analyses of each Trope.
  • We don't have to listen to the anecdotes either, we can ignore or make them stop.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^That's pretty much what I've been suggesting. We need to set a good foundation for the forum to make it clear that anecdotes aren't supposed to be the norm there.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Here's the thing though.

Besides Troper Tales, exactly what will the subforum be used for?

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Discussion or questions about the history of the trope or its meaning, asking if people know of any good works that use the trope...

Really, any discussion about specific tropes. It's going to be pretty broad, which makes the task of not making it a Troper Tale dump easier.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Which will eventually lead back to the anecdotes, because no matter what is done people will assume that it's a forum for anecdotes.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Not if that's not what people are posting starting out, they won't.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
And because there's not much to talk about in regards to individual tropes.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I'd say there's more than you think.

My first thread there will be on the trope Cosmic Horror Story (conveniently, it's impossible to do a Troper Tale for it). My OP will be asking for recommendations on good authors (any medium) who tend to specialize in these sorts of stories, besides Lovecraft.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
^ You'll probably get a threadlock for making a recommendations thread.

I really wish I was kidding. But at this point, nobody knows what [that mod] will do.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    ^
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^But the thread wouldn't be about recommendations. It would be the (only) thread in that subforum for Cosmic Horror Story. I'd just be starting it off like that.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
I'm telling you. It's going to either get thumped or derail. I'll post in it, though, to help out. Incidentally, I know nothing of the trope.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Recommendations are one of the things I mentioned when I proposed the "put it in a general subforum if we must keep it" idea, and Eddie rolled with the idea, so that seems positive.

Derail seems more likely, but that's a trope that could not possibly turn into anecdotes.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
I would believe you if Eldritch Abomination hadn't been turned into a Troper Tales page. I think.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
It has Troper Tales at one point, yes.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    -facepalm-

Though that is why I suggested on the main thread that there should be a blanket ban on anecdotes for tropes that can't actually have them. If there are enough eyes on the subforum, it'd get enforced.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Could we suggest maybe making a few moderators specifically for this subforum, like Wilbur and Shimispawn are for TRS/IP?

When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Where are you posting the thread?

^ If OTC has no moderators, then I assume the new one won't either.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^The new subforum isn't made yet because it's going to need special code. Eddie's working on it as we speak.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
If OTC has no moderators, then I assume the new one won't either.

This is why I want to harass Eddie for it.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Bring it up over tropeside. It's a good idea and I'll back you up on it.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    I already asked ^_^
  • I too would love moderator status, but I severely doubt that ever happening.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
I would probably not get it either, but I'm not asking to get it.
  • You can change. You can.
Me too. too much of a dick to do it, anyway.

K, so INUH has convinced me.

    Damn you and your charms.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^Yeah, I'd definitely suggest that nobody goes "Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! I'd be a great mod!"

    ^Yay! ^_^
  • If I've learned anything this past week, INUH has a way with words.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
While I have this way of... something >_>

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I do? That's news. Heh, that does not apply in meatspace, at the very least.

^Bringing up changes that have been attempted a million times and actually getting them through? Not sure of a more concise way to say it, but you've been doing that.
