I am not ready to quit TV Tropes yet

  • You can change. You can.
I prefer a case where we don't have either an Eddie actually listened to our arguments.

    Can't say I'm surprised, really.

We did use some rather...underhanded tactics.
  • Big surprise. In the end, my opinion of FE hasn't bettered or worsened, but stayed the same as it always have: he's okay.
  • I stand on Grendel's shoulders
This action stinks of smartass loophole expoitation.

Strangely enough, I'm okay with this. Maybe because I feel worn out, but this is better than the alternative where we lost, which may have happened had the crowner continued for a few more hours.

Besides, if it becomes another TT, it'll have loads of crap entries, and we'll call out FE on that.
  • I don't think any worse of Fast Eddie than I did when the thread started.

Madrugada, on the other hand, is someone I have lost all respect for.
  • I stand on Grendel's shoulders
... Fine, I guess we'll wait and see where this personal anecdotes thing goes.

I was armed and ready to post this video in celebration, but this just killed it for me.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    >Besides, if it becomes another TT, it'll have loads of crap entries, and we'll call out FE on that.

No. Not again. I don't want to have to go through another huge thread and crowner. The thread was supposed to end all of that once and for all.
  • "
    Obviously,
we can't — and don't really want to — stop people from talking about
themselves. To attempt to do so would be as draconic as it gets. All
about suppression and nothing about fun."

    What the

"We channel it to discussions and forums."

    That's (kind of) better?
  • So that's that, then?
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
It seems Fast Eddie can be reasoned with. Interesting.
  • Then let's keep at it. Personal Ancedotes must become a forum, and nothing more.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
If that, I was thinking of just putting it on trope talk.
  • You can change. You can.
Welp, I can advocate for it getting a sub forum where we can ignore it and where it can go the way of IJBM when Eddie realizes how hard it would be to police.
  • Actually, I'm okay if it just goes to some part of the forum I don't visit, but that's a great idea too. High five.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Ugh. I have a very bad feeling that history will repeat itself.
  • You can change. You can.
well, prepare, because it ain't just a feeling.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
But we wouldn't have to move a finger, Eddie would taste first-hand how unruly that forum would become.
  • Even better if it's moved to Trope Talk, something like Personal Ancedotes will wear out its welcome VERY quickly. No one there cares how awesome you are.
  • Wait, what? A subforum for it is the last thing you want. Troper Tales festered due to the medium being a self contained space where there was very little feedback, which is usually positive. Making a Personal Anecdotes subforum would just replicate it. If it comes to contact with the rest of the userbase, the dumber/more offensive/etc tales will receive the negative feedback they need, and eventually die down.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Is it possible it could be a forum for talking about individual tropes, with personal anecdotes being allowed in it rather than being the purpose? Because that might have some actual value.
  • Either it thrives or dies in the forums, I just want it confined there where everyone can see it.

    You can change. You can.
    The choices are thus, Noimporta

Either we get it in the discussion pages, where it would be even more isolated from policing except for the mods (Who have claimed before they can't do everything and all that) or the subforum, where at least, we can hope that some good users who care can properly police it or something.

In both cases, Eddie is creating a haven for it. The difference is that one of them would get much more traffic and hopefully such quantity of traffic could actually help to police it or something.

Personally, I'm of the belief that the thing can't last really that long. the premise is flawed by it's own very nature of "Talk about yourself via tropes" and the only reason it has lasted as much as it did was because nobody touched it because of the tacit agreement that somebody else would deal with it. If it becomes a subforum, it'll be to "in-your-face" for A) Moderators to not police it as easily as they could any subforums and B) for users themsevles to not report the entries/posts that break the rules.

And hey, if it happens as much as it happened in IJBM, we get to see another mushroom cloud. And I'm OK with that.

Why, yes, it's called Trope Talk.

Or at least, that's what it was for, no idea what people do with it now.

In both cases, Eddie is creating a haven for it

Oh, in that case yes, make a subforum. I thought "take it to the forums" would be more general.
  • I say move it to TRS. OTC is my second choice.

I was armed and ready to post this video in celebration, but this just killed it for me.

On that note, I'd just finished listening a final boss' theme when I started reading Eddie's post.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Everyone could see where it was as Troper Tales. It did squat.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^The problem with Trope Talk as it is is that you can't attach a thread to a trope so one of the buttons at the top leads to it.

With that ability added, it would have a lot of potential.
  • You can change. You can.
I can agree that using Trope Talk would be better. By far.
  • FE says he likes the forum idea. Good job INUH.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
On one hand, the general trope discussion idea sounds reasonable.

On the other hand, it'll might lead to the same shit all over again.

Fuck, I just don't know anymore.
