    Tv Tropes is...._____________
  • ^^Par for the course, from what I hear.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
It does seem to be a shoot first ask later situation.
  • The wiki is kinda meh now that I've read most of it. I just go around cleaning the wiki up every now and then, I feel like a damn janitor.

    a little muffled
TBH, I realized kashchei's identity in the first thread I saw her post in.

    @vandro: You got Google banned?
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Monday, I think. Noticed on tuesday, anyway.
  • Morgan Freeman is God
I think the reason that google bans are getting so overused is that some banned tropers just keep coming back.

That, and Fast Eddie is kind of a douche.
  • I don't think he's a douche. I just think he's more overreactionary than the entire Fox News network, and the nature of the Google bans is just one symptom of that.
  • If that don't work, use more gun.
I don't think Google bans are overused, they're just more noticeable.  Think vocal minority and silent majority.
  • a little muffled
@vandro: Do you have any idea why?
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
    Being my abrassive self?
  • a little muffled
I dunno, if that were banworthy I think a lot of people would have to go.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
It is banworthy when people holler you for using coarse language in adressing someone else, even if you were just joking.

Because you never know what you might see.
Hm.  That's apparently true, but I've a feeling it shouldn't be.  That's not in the rules post, and it doesn't make much sense.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Also, bobby, for what I read on the edit ban thread, ironeye's post makes me assume I had been a thorn on the side for quite a while, while nobody told me that I was.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
    Nobody told me that, either.

I mean, you did get thumped a few times for rudeness, so there is that, but "a thorn in the side" seems a little strong.

Bobby, it always seems like you don't know anything about what the other mods do ever.

Do they hide things from you or something?

I favor metaphors when communicating on the interwebs. A nuisance would be more appropiate?

Let's see if I can go all the way to metaphorgotten territory: I was left to wander in some rail tracks where I was expected to be ran over by a train, and I did.

Thus why I said he was Fast Eddies least favorite mod. They never tell him anything, or they abuse him to the point where he is too scared to say anything.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Wha? Isn't that assuming too much?

Because you never know what you might see.
A bit of a nuisance, perhaps, Vandro.  Although I'm sure most of the mods didn't see you that way.  Your posts did get thumped fairly often, but I was under the impression you were fairly well-liked by most people on the site, mods included.

@ Chagen: Well, in the past we've generally been fairly bad about communicating decisions to one another, although we're working on that and I think we've gotten better about it.  I don't think the other mods hide things from me.  Sometimes I've asked questions and gotten no answer, but that's tended to be regarding administrative decisions that we're probably not supposed to question.

@ Vorpy: Er.  I don't think so?  IDK.  I'm not scared of the other mods, and I wouldn't say I was scared of Eddie.  Occasionally a little intimidated, perhaps, but I don't think that's something he actively tries to do.

There is that, my posts were thumped fairly often, but I never noticed before. Unless there were long lines of thumped posts in sucession.
  • Honestly, my only problem with Google Bans is that they are permanent, with no chance of forgiveness.  Ever.  That just seems like a huge waste of potential to me, it's basically telling a person that there is nothning redeeming about their presence on the site, and nothing that could be salvaged if they were simply temp-banned to stop a certain behavior.  I also second the notion that they're being handed out a bit too often lately.

There is chance of being allowed back in, if the ban is proven to be a mistake, like with the "I hate faggots" guy.

Because you never know what you might see.
Well, the idea kind of is "Go away, we don't want you here.  At all.  Ever."  That's the point in them.  They're for people regarded as well and truly unwilling to redeem themselves, or people who would only ban evade and continue to be a pain in the ass if given the opportunity.

Originally, I recall they were generally given only to repeat ban evaders.  Nowadays they've started being referred to as "the full treatment" on the mod board, and are administered a little more often.

Not a good sign. Eventually TV Tropes will inherit the "everyone is fucking dead" administration style that I experienced on Gaiaonline, as a GD moderator and as somebody who got banned, where if there is even a sliver of drama or problems you get axed and nuked from the site.

  • But in TvTropes, you tend to get a unique "look" about you. I
couldn't circumvent my google bounce because everyone would know it was
me the very instant I started posting.

They'll ban you if they know you're Chagen, not if they think you are.

Yeah.  Remember how long it took for them to ban Mount Fire Eyes, even though basically from the moment he started posting, everyone immediately concluded that he was BlazeBullet/KillaKamikaze/etc.
  • And really, he only got banned again after he started going around replacing people's troper pages with "nigga you gay" and other uncreative crap.
