Carrie shook, but she seemed reluctant to actually leave Elizabeth.
She didn't want her to have to die alone.
"Carrie, let's go." Ray said. Quietly, but firmly.
Elizabeth's head fell back against the wall. She was going into shock, finally; her heartbeat was slowing down.
Gerine stroked her forehead gently, doing what she could to let her owner know she was there.
Carrie hesitated for a long, long moment.
Finally, she squeezed Elizabith's hand and stood. Tears were running down her face.
She spoke, but her voice was barely a whisper. "I promise."
Greg is still shaking. He knows they should move on, but he can't bring himself to step from that spot. Tears are running down his cheeks.
Elizabeth's breaths are growing shorter as she struggles to breathe.
Bob tugs on the leg of Carrie's jeans with big, mournful eyes. She takes a tiny step back, but her eyes are still fixed on the girl.
"Everyone, please." Ray said. His voice had gotten louder. "We can't do anything but respect her wishes. Let's go." his voice sounded incredibly tired.
Greg looks over at Ray, but doesn't move.
Carrie finally manages to force herself to turn away, rubbing furiously at her eyes.
Greg finally manages to take a few shaky steps toward the exit.
"Ah...th-thanks..."
Greg manages to slowly walk the rest of the way to the exit tunnel, then puts his hand against the wall for support.
He sighed. "...So Ray, what's the plan? After seeing that... I don't want to charge in anymore. I always fuck things up when I charge in"
Ray paused. He honestly had no idea. "We'll figure it out." he said. "Take it slowly. One step at a time. Figure out what do."
Carrie just walked, utterly silent. Bob glanced from her to the rest of the group, concerned.
When they get back to the room with the ladder, Greg slumps against the wall.
Littorio and Chitter both step up into his lap, and he hugs them.
"I think first... we all should take a few minutes." Ray said. "Collect ourselves. In this state we won't do much good."
Jackie stopped crying enough to speak. "I thought of something to take our minds off of this for a moment: I forgot to scan the Pokemon we fought back in the forest; the bugs. But Greg and Carrie caught some," she said to Ray. "Mind if I scan them now?"
Carrie nodded, then fumbled numbly at her belt for a moment before she was able to take Parker's Pokeball.
She released him in a flash of light, and he materialized, disoriented.
Ugh. I don't know if my stomach can handle bugs right now. But I might as well do this now.
