"You're going to be okay." Carrie put her hand on the girl's, wishing she were as confident as she sounded. "Her brother? You mean, the Pokemon that Team Rocket is after?"
"Don't mind me, Ray," Jackie said. "I can't help something like this. Just let me know when we're moving again."
"I thank you for your optimism, but I do believe I'm already showing signs of severe blood loss, and I do not believe there is a doctor nearby."
She held up her hands, which were shaking. She tried to smile, but it came out as a grimace.
"I am sorry. It is only due to my Pokemon that I am able to maintain this level of lucidity as it is."
She turned to Carrie. "Yes, that is the one. I am referring to Latias. Team Rocket has stolen his Soul Dew, and by extension him. They are planning to use him to catch the one they refer to as the DNA Pokemon."
Welp, no helping it anymore. "You've done enough, Charles!"
"NO!" Ray immediately yelled. "We've done all we can, Charles. Please..."
Some investigator he turned out to be. A team of scared kids in front of a dying woman and he couldn't do anything.
Except ask questions.
"What do we need to do?"
"It would not help, sorry." She grimaced.
"Young lady, please do not be too upset at him. He was trying to help, in his misguided way."
"The DNA Pokemon? Is that what the vision was? What happens if they get him?" Carrie adjusted her glasses with a shaking hand. "How do we stop it?"
"What do you need to do?" She turned back to Ray again.
"Stop them. Stop Team Rocket. Find their Leader, if you can- he should have the Soul Dew on him. Stop his plans, whatever they are."
She coughed again.
"Up, on the crest of Mount Moon. That's where it's happening- that's where the creatures should be coming."
Jackie's teeth were gritted the the point of looking nearly animalistic. She pinched her nose. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Losing your temper in front of this dying woman won't help anyone. She turned around again, this time with a wracking sob coming where a deep breath should have.
Carrie nodded. "We'll stop them. No matter what, I promise that we'll stop them."
Arceus, there was so much blood...
"Darkrai, Darkrai." She pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to steady her thoughts. "He is here, I believe. He was trying to stop them- trying to get everyone away from the Mountain. He managed to get most of the local Pokemon to flee, and most of the Trainers around here."
She coughed again.
"If you see him, tell him I said sorry to John."
Ray didn't know what to do. Evidently they had to ascend Mt. Moon. "We'll need a guide..." he said gently.
"I'll tell him." She nodded, wincing as the girl coughed.
"A guide. Right."
She fumbled at her belt. She withdrew three Pokeballs and attempted to hand them to Ray.
The Gardevoir stopped her. She gently withdrew one of the Pokeballs, placing it in the girl's other hand.
They stared at each other for a moment, then the girl nodded. She held her hand with the two Pokeballs out.
"Here," she coughed. "This is Kevi's Pokeball, and Brett. Kadabra and Beldum. Brett knows his way around Mount Moon, and Kadabra knows Flash, you should be able to see better."
Ray nodded. "We'll do what needs to be done." His voice was getting hoarse. He took the balls and gave Brett's ball to Carrie.
"Gerine does not wish to be parted from me."
She coughed again.
"Is there anything else you need to know?"
Carrie took the ball and stared down at it. "...What's your name?"
Jackie wanted to ask her question again, but, nope, still crying like a little bitch.
Greg is still standing in the same spot, staring at the girl and shaking.
"There is a ladder in the room preceding this one, leading up. Look in the center of the room- Brett should be able to show you where- there should be a rope there, leading up. You should be able to ascend that way."
She coughed again, her entire frame shaking as a coughing fit consumed her.
"It would probably be for the best if you left now. It would probably upset you to watch me die."
Before they left, she directed a final word at Carrie. "My name..." She coughed again, turning away. "My name is Elizabeth."
Carrie's eyes filled with tears, and she closed them. "...We'll stop this, Elizabeth. I promise."
Ray nodded. He turned around, looking up towards the ladder. "We can't do anything more here." He said hoarsely. "Let's go."
