Why is everyone insulting my boyfriend
  • I can say, at the very least, the EGS forum seems to hold no ill will to tv tropes.

The Internet is vast enough that even a bad reputation means jack to others. Even Sonichu is completely unheard of by some, if not most.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^You've noticed that too, have you? I think it's because they see the people who can't let go of high school issues (sometimes for good, sometimes for not) and swing way too far the other way.

Also, Stuff Geeks Love falls into the classic geek trap of 'trying too hard to be funny and instead coming off as spiteful and vindictive'.

I find that geek girls are way worse about this than geek guys. Most geek guys I know are happy to keep their sex quiet and normal. The girls though? Freaky and loud.

    ain't that the truth

Are we defining normal as anything that doesn't appear in Fetishes?

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I think there's a subset of female nerd that feels they're doing a service by being loud about things they like because they think they're subverting gender norms.

To be fair they actually are, but being loud about it makes them all look like twits.

^The idea of a 'normal' sex life is rather mystifying to me because, you know, it's behind closed doors and only participants are going to know and care.

Unless you're one of those jackasses who won't shut up about it.

    but...but...actions speak louder than words!
  • For most people, it's actually not that interesting, sorry to say.
  • Y'know what's interesting about all this? For all the detractors and people who mock us, and people within the TVT community who are worried about the state of things, and all the people here who are too...

...there's a whole other type of person out there.

The kind that has never been to the forum, if they even realize it exists. The kind who, when TV Tropes is brought up in discussion IRL, will first talk about how addicting it is and not much else. Who do sometimes shout out tropes when they see them come up in media. It would never occur to them that anything is wrong with TV Tropes, or that anyone would have cause to be so negative towards us. Not to mention, they don't know that people are negative, they've never seen This Troper or the SA thread or anything.

They don't think of a creepy aspect because they're just scratching the surface. Blissfully ignorant, I guess you might say. It's both refreshing and kind of sad to watch. I think I've occasionally tried to tell people "Y'know, the site's actually falling apart at the seams, awash in debate and controversy..." (not those exact words of course) and they just kind of shrug it off. This all describes every single person I know IRL who is familiar with TV Tropes.

Man, EG it's almost like all the internet drama is overblown and really silly when you think about it.
  • What I find is fascinating is how a so-called "asexual" is posting in Fetishes.

Then again, I guess I shouldn't expect much from Tvtropes.
  • Is this about Combat Butler Edmania?

Regarding SA's opinion on TV Tropes, back when I actually had time to edit the latter I would often go through the inbound links page to see what articles were getting the most outside discussion, and to see what was being said about them.

The times I looked at inbound links from forums.somethingawful, while there were some links coming about via the TVTropes bashing thread, the majority of article mentions were indeed using the wiki as a resource without major controversy.

This may have changed in the last month or so, since I really haven't had time to follow my normal editing routine.
  • Oh, it's not that bad.

    You guys are wimps.
  • They're somethin' else.
If that's the worst thing on the internet they've EVER seen, they should be thankful. Buncha pussies.
  • This thread has me terrified to even consider referring to myself as asexual.

I don't think there's an exact word for my sexuality. It's just, in Fetishes when you simply say "straight", people assume you are either having sex now or constantly want it. Neither of which applies to me. If you say "asexual" they at least back off from making that assumption.
  • And now they're talking about where they thought babies came from when they younger... and one person mentions they thought it was "Shitting out babies"
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

  • This thread...IT'S GROWN SO LARGE...

Which just goes to show, if nothing else, how badly a wiki about patterns in fiction has managed to get its metaphorical knickers in a twist about sex. It's as if Wikipedia were beset with drama about asexuality and lolicon.

  • Clean your room little Billy
^ Wikipedia probably is. It just keeps such drama a better secret.
  • You can change. You can.
Nah, Wikipedia's drama is basically people fighting to delete everything pre-20th century or to keep it.

It's kind of sad that a TvTropes version of this article would be shouted down as an atrocity by the rest of the wiki.

    Flavor of Love
Should second-season winner "Deelishis" be credited as her birth name, Chandra Davis, or her stage name, London Charles? Months of IP additions and months of "IF YOU REVERT WITHOUT DISCUSSION, YOU'RE GONNA BE BLOCKED!" ensue. In the end, nobody got blocked and the dispute died down on its own, probably because both sides realized they were battling over a woman who willingly went on a reality television show to "fall in love with" Flavor Flav. Yeah, boyeeeeeee!

why does this matter so much

    why

This thread has me terrified to even consider referring to myself as asexual.

Unless you actually are one of those "I'm asexual, meaning I don't like sex, meaning I'm better than you" people, there's really nothing to fear.

I don't think there's an exact word for my sexuality. It's just, in Fetishes when you simply say "straight", people assume you are either having sex now or constantly want it. Neither of which applies to me. If you say "asexual" they at least back off from making that assumption.

You could go with asexual, or you could just try to explain that you're straight, yet also not all that interested. Then again, they probably won't really get it (not trying to sound like I'm smarter than the average Fetisher / Troper / whatever), so I understand the reasoning behind just saying asexual.

^Not the first time a few tropers made a big deal over nothing.
  • You can change. You can.
Hyposexual and demisexual sounds like they would be much more appliable labels to Evergreen's sexuality.

    and that's a sentence i won't ever utter again.
