Anime is something of a lazy medium

  • MANGA IS WORSE.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^^ I think that's mostly shonen.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    DAT BACKGROUND.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I kind of get it with manga.  You don't want the panels to be too cluttered, especially since it's black and white.

    LIES!
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
Good thing Shonen battles take place in rock quarries.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Also, many Manga authors have to churn out chapters every week. If you don't have assistants to help you with backgrounds/inking and stuff, cutting corners is inevitable.
  • They're somethin' else.
Berserk's manga has none of these problems.

Berserk's anime, on the other hand.
  • Electric Boogaloo
I'm not saying all anime is a bunch of cheap bullshit, but as a former animation student, it certainly irks me whenever an anime with a significant budget still relies on the same cheap tricks as low-budget anime.
  • Yeah, it irks me too.

    Especially those damn side mouths.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    >Berserk's manga has none of these problems.

Berserk updates once a month once every three months whenever the author feels like it. He's got more time to draw in the details.
  • You can change. You can.
There're many things about anime's animation and art style that bug me. I've only liked about two or three anime show's visual approach, and even then, it's mostly from an design perspective, rather than an animation perspective.

then again, I only care for the stories and there're very few anime that have managed to satisfy me enough for me to keep watching past the first episode, so I'm not particularly knowledgeable, am i?
  • Electric Boogaloo
You notice it in shitty webcomics too. Sidemouths are one of the many cheap bullshit tricks animators did to avoid having to animate the chins and appropriate facial features when their characters were talking during a side profile. In a non-moving medium, such as comics, there's absolutely no excuse for a snout and sidemouth. I'm looking at you, Dominic Deegan.
  • Dominic Deegan is...oddly enough, not a good example.

    Why?

Because he does it on purpose.

Thinks it's some sort of artistic style that fits it...or something.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Dominic Deegan's art style is ripped wholesale from those "How to Draw Manga" books. Yet, after years of practice the author refuses to improve on it.
  • Electric Boogaloo
No, its a perfect example exactly because he chooses to do it. Weeaboos have turned animation techniques that the creators themselves are ashamed of having to use into a "style" that has led to big-budget anime using small-budget techniques because it sells. It's marketable, yes, but its insulting to the industry as a whole.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
I'm with Scrye on this one.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
And with the effects of the Tsunami still very recent. I doubt this will change for the time being.
  • Fair enough. Luckily, a good amount of people do try to improve past it. Weeaboos and all.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
And with the effects of the Tsunami still very recent. I doubt this will change for the time being.

Well, from what I gather, it's also facing competition from Korean and Chinese animators.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I'm frankly rather amazed that they discovered a formula for making drawn human characters look aesthetically pleasing without spending much time for drawing.
  • Electric Boogaloo
^"YMMV" or whatever the kids are calling it these days
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
The animation on Phineas and Verb do the same thing, and it annoys me to no end. There are no such things as side-profiles on that show.

Ed Edd and Eddy on the other hand, had the decency to draw the mouths correctly.

    ^^^Especially on the human part

^^I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that Megas XLR did everything from anime better than anime ever did.
  • You can change. You can.
It didn't have lolicon, therefore, your argument is invalid.

  • As far as I'm concerned, Megas XLR is an anime.

    Of course, as far as I'm concerned, this is an anime too;

  • those shorts arouse me
