^^ and reading the posts of a mentally-ill 14 year old seems like high class, if you ask me.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Okay, now that incident is the one thing about all this that actually does annoy me.
  • See, thing about this Troper is the problems it points out could be said to be two-fold.

    Creepy Tropers and Poor moderation.

They could've used (not gonna name names) 'That' person's posts to point out the poor moderation of Tvtropes, instead it was just used to show how "creepy" tropers were, which, if you understood the context of the situation, makes you comes off like an ass.

"Oh hey, that person was soooo creepy"

"Oh that person, they're in a mental institution now"

    "....."

I don't think they particularly care, regarding Meat's current status. They're more interested in what got posted.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
@Scrye2 > To be fair to This Troper, they never add anything to the posts/tales.
All they do is read it. (Oh noes! A mocking voice?? The fiends!) The
humor comes from how pathetic/retarded the tales/posts are. I don't see
how this makes them assholes, as Eddie put it. If those tales/posts
weren't supposed to be read, they shouldn't have been put on the
    internet.

Not quite true, as I noted.  Part of the awkwardness comes from the lack of context.  For example, a post humorously talking about one's being a very sexually fulfilling partner in over-the-top language, taken out of context and recited in a strange tone, can sound quite different.

    You can change. You can.
Exactly. This Troper's videos on forum threads are nothing but cherrypicking as they have context and the like taken away in order to "make a funny"

Also, the forumites they have specifically chosen have been a self destructive teen (Although he has gotten far better and healthier) and a mentally ill 14 year old.

Sure, they don't care, but I do. And at the end of the day, I care more about what I care than what a bunch of fuckwits who think they're the pinnacle of internet wit care for.

    I stand on Grendel's shoulders
I actually find This Troper a little charming sometimes for the dramatic reading. If I ended up featured in This Troper, I honestly would be amused rather than offended.

  • Electric Boogaloo
This Troper is just a video version of a screencap. Context or not, you're still putting shit on the internet. I advise against doing so if you aren't prepared for shit to be read by everyone and out of context.

This is also why other forums have fucking quote buttons.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Sure, people posting on public forums should deal with the public repercussions. Mentally ill teens are not prepared to assume such a thing.

And even if you say that, the blame is still on the side that acts to ridicule.
  • Is that why Fast Eddie didn't want to put in a quote button? Because he was afraid that people quoting what some less-careful poster had said would ruin the hugbox?
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
I thought it was about evading quote mayhems. But I dunno.
  • I thought so too, but... dammit, that makes too much sense.
  • You can change. You can.
@Scrye: Admittely, I really don't care if I get mocked so much as the people who I like being mocked. As it was only one of them, I barely care for it.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Am I on the "few" group that don't assume malice from FE's actions?
  • "What are you talking about? I just like to wear tight leather catsuits." ~Scyre.

That's just an example, mind you.

    ^^And it still holds true.

Seriously, i look fucking sexy in a leather catsuit. I feel like I'm in Underworld.

I don't care if the Ratio is dropping, If close to 500 votes, with people who have argued their case logically and rationally is gonna get overturned by mostly a silent minority whose only arguments are "I like it" then so be it.

Just a reason to not worry about the direction TvTropes is taking.

    ----

^ A. You don't get to explain the context.

     B. It's gonna be read in a nasaly voice, so don't think your "tone" is gonna come out.

@Counterclock: Because we'll all have fled, by then?
  • Electric Boogaloo
@Counterclock: And even so, you'll notice how much I totally BAAAAAWW'd over you posting that out of context.
  • @Scrye: Actually, the first thing I noticed was you trying to define the context of the quote. ~shrug~ Like that's really important huh?

    @Ivy: I don't know, I put up a metaphor for it.
  • I think we can scrap it by our teeth.
  • Electric Boogaloo
^^I honestly cant remember for the life of me what the context of that first quote is. But the first thing that pops into my head when I think of leather catsuits is Underworld. Closely followed by Catherine Zeta Jones.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
New rule: no more extended metaphors. They made the crowner drop.
  • No, the crowner dropped because "Omg we're oppressing the Tvtrope Troper Tale people by pointing at their sick troper tales and being disgusted by them."

  • You can change. You can.
The problem is that our argument should never be something as dumbassed as "Lol it's creepy".

Yes, it's creepy. No, it's not gonna convince people to vote for it.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^I tried to rerail it, but nobody listened.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
I thought my ones were amusing, but that's all it was meant to be. A short one-or-two-post thing to amuse people before rerail.

Then I dunno wtf happened -shrug-
  • @Juan_Carlos, I know, but I'm just using that as a reference.

There are good fucking raisins reasons for people to be creeped out by some(1, even 5 percent of them) of the Troper tales, but they're not even willing to acknowledge that fact.
