What does that even mean? The '50s?
- You would be wise to not write the story to service the aesop, if you want to be taken seriously at all. Disgard all notions of trying to service the aesop, and instead, just focus on telling a story.
- You don't need to take a postmodern approach to this piece (in fact, I kinda hate that), but please, please, please, do NOT quote anything, do not mention any memes or mantras or "common knowledge" when it comes to what you're writing about. Your audience should already fill that in in their heads.
- Your main love interest may have to serve as a very close supporting character, if not be THE main character and be the otaku casanova guy be a Decoy Protagonist and the like. In the vein of what you're writing, there are already too many a Shallow Love Interest, rendering them into plot devices instead of actual people.
- What is your story's (estimated) length? This may have to make gradual changes, so your story may have to take quite some time.
There are Ipod, computers, DVD players, gaming consoles and the like. But no one in the story drives cars made after around 1970, Eisenhower is apparently in office. All the asthetics of the setting are mainly based around the 1950's through 1960's styles. Most of the characters wear a mix of 1950's clothing and today's clothing. Everyone speaks like we do today, and the social mores are equivalent to today.
It's never said when the story takes place--because it's a strange mix of Today and the 1950's.

Don't worry. Jessie is a full character in her own right. She actually affects the story significantly-her job as a Pizza Delivery Girl actually is very useful several times in the story, among other things--and arguably does as much as Richard himself.

Well, that was sudden.
Something you don't like about it?
BS.
Also, about the setting idea....?
But, everyone knows M. Night! How do you... WTF?!EDIT: Wait, didn't he direct the film adaption of Slumdog Millionare?
Also, he's a fucking director, not God. It's not a fucking sin if I don't know him can we talk about something more important.
